You know James you showing one of the best videos on learning to do Pull Ups out there. I for one have always sucked trying to do Pull Ups and even using a Resistance Band never worked great. I am now gonna incorporate you tutorial. Again a really thorough video explaining how to learn to do Pull Ups. Thanks a lot.
@danielclifton45895 жыл бұрын
Definitely the best plan and explanation for pull ups I’ve seen. Mostly I hear ‘do lat pull downs until you get strong enough,’ or ‘just do pull ups.’ But you really break it down to not only a workable plan, but explain how to activate the lats, something that’s often missing from other pull up how-to videos. Thanks
@JamesGrage5 жыл бұрын
Daniel Clifton hey Daniel. Thank you for the awesome feedback. Yeah you’re right, doing lat pull downs will obviously help you get stronger which should translate to an improvement in your pull-ups, but the best way to get better at pull-ups is doing pull-ups. The interesting thing about lat pull downs is I see the same mistakes that people make in their pull-ups (too much biceps, and not engaging their lats)

But of course when training at home you lack variety and innovation and sometimes motivation. Enter James Grage and his detailed yet simple videos. Boom! Who would of thought that you get this type of training with bands. I’m motivated! Thanks James.

This set comes with 5 bands of varying resistance, a storage bag, kzbin.infoUgkxS7ex6L4sMqpaTn4LnBPyBmRQsSingL8y a small pamphlet with some sample exercises, and an access code for an online workout video. I haven't viewed the online video, so I cannot speak to the quality of that piece of the set. However, everything else is perfect for what I was looking for. The bands are durable, and the resistance strength varies enough between bands that they're each useful for different exercises and provide a great challenge as you gradually increase the resistance level for certain exercises. The only band I don't use very often is the lowest resistance band, but even that is nice for exercises that target weaker/seldom used muscle groups.

After 40 odd years using barbells and dumbells (which I'm not stopping just yet) I've newly discovered just how good bands are for maintaining and even building muscle , with much less risk of injury... I talked to two trainers and I realized I could just figure it out from KZbin videos. I'm doing negatives with the pull up band (I'm a 170 pound female so I need the assistance). When I started, I could do two negatives per set and they were so rough. I just moved to 5 per set and I'm starting to be able to do a half of a pull up with the band of course. I have a cold, though, so I'm probably going to have to move back down to 4 reps per set for a week or so when I go back.

Great video. When I could only do 2 pullups. I bought a 3 pack of bands from Wal-Mart. (Light, medium and heavy) I'd do my 2 pullups. Then add the light band and do maybe 12 more before I was gassed. Then switched to the medium, did them til I was gassed (probably 7-8) then switched to the heavy and did them til I was gassed (maybe 4-5) then I added the light band + the heavy band and did what I could do, then the light + the medium and did what I could do, then finally used all 3 bands. Then I was done. My reps were at a modest pace as I was getting used to using those muscles. And I did slow ones. I figure as long as your form is correct you can always add or remove weight/resistance. I think some of the aspects in this video would've helped boost my numbers quicker than my method but even as someone who can now do pullups I will add some of the holds to my workout.

I started a few years ago, to incorporate pull ups in my workouts, after not doing them for the first years of training, what was an error. They are really good for my back development and my arms, because i do different kinds of them, that also target different parts of the arms. And i mean very clean ones and with long hangings after a set, additionally. I also started with just 3 or so in a set and then quickly 5 and then 8 to 10. I always did 30 to 60 in as much time, as i needed. After a few month, i needed 12 to 15 minutes with up to 10 per set (actually mostly in the fist set) with my bodyweight of 255 - 264 lbs. Then i dicovered pull up bands, and since then, i use a band, that takes aprox. 30 lbs off of my weight. With that, i did a 100 in approx 15 min. for a long time per workout, mostly after heavy lifting and other exercises. Nowadays, i do mostly 60 to 80 with the band as more or less the last part of my back workout. So, i think, you will get better, quickly. But in the beginning, it's hard and you need to bite through it ;).
