The fact that Nadal could not get a set on Nole on hardcourt for 10 years is probably why we hear these comments from Nadal.

it all goes back to before that in 2011 - Nadal was coming off his best ever season then Djokovic goes and beats him in 7 matches in a row, all finals, including 3 Grand Slam Finals. It took Federer 7 whole years to get 7 wins against Nadal during Federer's "prime" era 2004-2010. Djokovic just destroyed Nadal completely there and Nadal never got over it and after that never again consistently challenged on hardcourt or grass.

I'm a Novak fan as well. To be brutally honest, his on-court antics aren't the best when in comparison with Fed and Nadal's. But still, he makes up for that with heaps of positive energy and honest humility during on-court and off-court press conferences with the most delicate and accurate choices of words and expressions like Federer, despite English not being his first language - even John McEnroe said Djoko makes the best speeches and interview responses, almost that of a politician. It speaks volumes of how much hard work he put in not just tennis but also communication, you can tell that his English got so much better as he aged. The same cannot be said about Rafa. It's sad that so many Fed and Nadal worshipping fans are the first to berate or criticize Novak for even the smallest blunders, forgetting that the big 3 are all humans. They only see the negative sides of Djokovic which are unfortunately his honest expressions of frustration on the court when things don't go his way. They fail to see his humane side. If Djokovic's nationality was that of a Western European or North/South American continent, people might have viewed him differently. To think that he rejected the offer to be granted the British nationality and passport with more income, but to instead remain a Serbian with dignity, speaks volumes about how great of a man he is before a tennis player.

Nadal has been doing that “Aw, shucks, I’m just a regular guy and I don’t care about records” shtick ever since he hit the tour. He was chasing Federer’s records like a maniac for ten years, and Federer never felt the need to make those kind of petty, backhanded remarks. If Djokovic hadn’t sat out two majors for refusing an arguably unnecessary shot, he might have 26 majors right now compared to Rafa’s 20. Let’s not forget Djokovic had the highest ATP point total in history at that time, and he was heavily favored to win both majors he was forced to skip. Nadal hadn’t beaten Djokovic on a hard court in ten years, and he miraculously won the Australian and US Opens while Djokovic was out. I actually think it’s funny that Rafa spent so many years chasing Federer’s record, and when he finally caught Federer, Djokovic caught him, too. The only time Rafa actually held the record was when Djokovic was barred from playing-and as soon as Djokovic could play again, he immediately caught Rafa and surpassed him. Now that Djokovic stands alone at the top, Rafa doesn’t care about records.

You also need to include that Wimbledon was canceled due to Covid as another Slam that Novak probably wins, Then there is the US Open's insistence on putting in Old Men and Women as linespeople who are too slow to get out of the way of at best a 20 mph ball and then get Novak disqualified, thankfully they now switched to Hawkeye technology. On Rafa's 13th French Open, he played early on Friday semifinal, where Novak had to play 2 sets on Friday with on-and-off rain delays and then 3 long sets against Tsitsitpas on Saturday. Rafa's win on Sunday was due to Novak's fatigue, but Novak was too classy to mention that in the post game interviews.

The thing is, as crazy as Rafa and Roger are good in tenis, they dont have that personality Djokovic has, I dont wanna separate their talent and say one is better then others although I favour Djokovic personally for obvious countryman reasons, but lock them in one room together and Djokovic will always be ALPHA there, any time, any day of the year. Its just that mental strenght which pushes him to get better than even the best ones. Hes mentality Master like no one else equal maybe only to Michael Jordan.

Ah, yes, as if those records are low-hanging fruit you can pluck while lounging on your couch, right? Newsflash: those records don't come with a remote control! Let's not forget Djokovic's vaccination stance, which actually put a brake on his record chase. Talk about commitment to principles over personal gain - he literally said 'no thanks' to potential trophies for it! Just wow. :)

In my opinion some people don’t like Novak because he admits he wants to break records and be the best and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with saying that! I think every person who plays a sport wants to be the very best but their afraid too say it because it might not come true but Novak isn’t afraid too say what he’s striving for and I think it’s great! He loves the competition, he loves tennis, he works so hard too be the best he can be and he still makes time for his family and his foundation which is outstanding! I honestly don’t understand why some people don’t like him unless they just can’t stand the fact that he’s better than their favorite player which is ridiculous! Novak is my absolute all time favorite player but I like a lot of other players too. I absolutely think he’s the GOAT. I cherish every time I can watch him play and I hope he’ll be playing for more years to come.

Nadal doesn’t seem to know himself, and seems like he’s trying to convince himself of a personality he doesn’t have. His wife was in the hospital while he was playing with basically one foot remaining. Who’s obsessive?
@KushagraaDubeyy9 ай бұрын
Where did him saying Novak would’ve been frustrated if he didn’t get the records means that Novak is bad and Rafa is good? He simply defined different states of mind between him and Novak. Rafa has repeatedly maintained even when he had more slams than Djokovic that he doesn’t live in the tension if his neighbour has a better car or more money, he is simply reiterating the same using Novak’s state of mind. Rafa is a competitive athlete but not to the extent that he wouldn’t be happy if he finished second but everyone knows Novak definitely wouldn’t have been happy to ever finish second, Novak himself has said that so many times so where’s the issue? It’s a classic case of over dramatic reactions by his fan base which only proves how much grounded they have been/are. There’s a reason (and it’s not that the world is against Novak) that despite being the GOAT most people don’t get the genuine warmth from Novak as they do from Nadal and Federer and just because you can’t digest that being his fan doesn’t mean everything and everyone is out to get Novak. Don’t let your own tainted opinions interpret things in ways that weren’t even intended.

I'm not a Djokovic fan. I don't like his style of play, to be quite honest, even though it's clearly working for him (definitely the GOAT). However, I love and admire Nole's efforts to help poorer, lower-ranked, and global south players. I hope he will be successful in democratizing tennis via the PTPA. After it's all said and done, this may Djokovic's true legacy: creating new avenues for marginalized men and women to compete in professional tennis.

Maybe Djoko is the greatest now (let's be real there is no competition) but certainly Federer is the greatest of all times. Along with the major cups Federer won in difficult and competiant tours, he made tennis looks much better, pushed to make the money prizes more worthy, advertised tennis in the best way possible and attracted a lot of people to watch tennis (with some of his magic). And, we all know that between the three legends, most of the tennis fans will be cheering for Roger every single match.

That is just nonsense , even without clay he has 8 slams and 10 masters 1000 on hc , that alone would put him in top 15 players of all time by itself . Is he greater than Novak ? No , no he is not . But there is no need to diminish Nadal's legendary status as a tennis player which he absolutely is .

Novak Djokovic is the GOAT and his obsession with winning, while also having principles he stands by and gave up some major wins no doubt, speaks volumes about him. I saw him in an interview recently and was very impressed with him and my understanding is that he donates a lot to help younger players who don't have the chance to make very much money but show potential so he can help them spend more time coming up.

McEnroe, Sampras, Federer, Novak are the greatest of their respective eras given the changes in tennis, but what's annoying is people who will argue Novak would have still been number 1 in the 90s. It's kind of anti-tennis in a way, many 20 somethings think tennis started in the year 2015, but tennis with wooden racquets is still tennis, a different tennis 'classic tennis' for sure, but it's still tennis.

I don't see absolutely nothing wrong with anything Nadal has said. I can't see the point of this video, tbh. And no, Novak is NOT the greatest of all time, as there isn't such a thing. Connors has more titles than anyone, Federer was number 1 for four years in a row, Laver won the calendar slam twice, and Nadal is the best clay player ever - clay being arguably the best and definitely the most demanding surface of the three. It's impossible to point to a GOAT, there can't be such a thing. But if people insist, let's say it's Marcelo Rios, the most skilful of them all.
@jonaschilonga819 ай бұрын
True, Roger has great respect for Novak than what Rafa has for Novak. In any case what's wrong with chasing records. It's his own business and set goal, period. Rafa should equally set his and no one should hold him for that in a negative way, the way he looked it appear in the case of Novak. He should simply strive to beat Novak's records if that will help him be happy, imo.

At first I thought the Nadal quotes were just misinterpreted or taken out of context, but as more and more native Spanish speaking people said they were entirely accurate, and he made more and more of these comments this year, it's hard not to say he's salty. He is by far more obsessed with being the GOAT, playing on the foot that was essentially dying just to win another title, while Djokovic was willing to miss multiple slams just to stick by his principles, and he almost retired in 2018 to avoid getting the elbow surgery. If anything, Djokovic is more obsessed with his holistic approach to health than he is to tennis, and it's cost him multiple opportunities at more titles, but at least he says what he means and means what he says, whereas Nadal often seems to by lying about his feelings!

Rick Macci was the most accurate in his assessment.i feel im the biggest RF fan and always will be however much respect to ND and I do think he is the GOAT,RF in second and NaDull in 3rd.NaDull hasn’t played with best sportsmanship in my opinion ,but wasting time to upset his opponents rhythm against the time rule,and his extended breaks in between his career to repair or wait out the roids to leave his system,has made me make this choice in 3rd even though his record against RF is superior,he did a lot wrong to gain his success !

Don't know why Nadal and Federer are more popular, have more fans, and more supports from premium brands. Perhaps Djokovic temperament on court, such as throwing racquets (got disqualified at the US Open), mocking young players like Shelton after beating him, has something to do with it?

I could be wrong but the saltiness seems to be related to Djoker’s time at the players association - maybe he did some stuff behind scenes that tried to switch things to his advantage (or perceived advantage from Rafa’s perspective. In my view, Federer still the best and the key stat for me is the number of weeks a player has been featuring in the Top 10 - Federer is at the top and still about 150 weeks ahead of Djoker. If Djoker can hold onto a top 10 position until mid 2027 then perhaps I would reconsider.

You know what Novak did there? He fought for better prize money for lower ranking players and guess what? Rafa voted against it. He came from money and will never understand the struggles of players with no money and sponsors and that's exactly what makes them so different.
@bobbymoore60138 ай бұрын
Novak is obsessed; his comments have made that clear over the years, and Rafa is only pointing that out. I don't have any problem with that amount of ambition at all, but what I do feel is that with him, it is a lot about his insecurity and need to prove he is better than Roger or Rafa, but certainly, that has fueled him to chase after the records, so kudos. Roger and Rafa aren't bothered and know their place in tennis history and that records are only part of the ultimate legacy and impact in the sport.
