I have a bit of a theory that the Chaos Emeralds are fragments of a God of Chaos; a god who was the opposite of The End. The End being a pseudonym for the opposite of Chaos, "Order". Order didn't appreciate the power of Chaos, so the two came to blows. Order defeats Chaos, causing it to split itself into eight fragments, one of which containing Chaos itself. The Master Emerald fell to the Earth, the other Emeralds scattered across seven planets. The Ancients flew across the universe, and gathered the Chaos Emeralds. Order waited patiently for the Ancients to gather the emeralds in one place, so they could be destroyed along with those who seek to utilize their unpredictable power. The Master Emerald sensed the proximity of the Chaos Emeralds, pulling them closer to it. Chaos had been killed in the battle, but it lies in wait for it's eventual resurrection. A certain Chao had been exposed to the Master Emerald's power, triggering a great mutation. Through that Chao, Chaos was given form once again. This form was created to pay tribute to the Ancients, who risked their lives to ensure the safety of the Emeralds.

Also, here's something that could explain the anthropomorphic characters. The radiation given off by the Chaos Emeralds could have caused a decent percentage of Earth's wildlife to mutate and stand on two legs. A small number of these animals are able to attune themselves to Chaos' power, and use Chaos Energy. The early humans, witnessing the power of this new species, taught them how to live as they do. They erected villages, tribes, clans, and various civilizations on the countless islands.

The fact that the Master Emerald was already on Earth as shown in Frontiers really baffles me after they already showed the Ancients had the Chaos Emeralds in space. It also baffles me that the Ancients look like Chaos (or the other way around). So I wonder if Chaos was/is an Ancient and how the chao fit into all this since he is canonically a mutated chao. I also find it pretty funny how for the second time in one year we’ve gotten an origin story for the Chaos Emeralds. I always assumed the Master Emerald came from space and that the Chaos Emeralds were a product of it. But then I guess I wouldn’t have been called the Master Emerald to begin with if it wasn’t the master of anything. The movie sorta did the reverse and said the echidna tribe created them, whereas I always assumed they were just one if their many owners in the games. But then if the Chaos and Master Emeralds are separate now, I wonder where the former went and how they’re gonna play into future sequels.

My theory is this wasn't consistently an intact planet. Babylonians lived in a world governed by Master emerald that NATURALLY was broken apart, with floating islands. Perhaps to seal Dark Gaia, eventually the Chaos Emeralds were used to build shrines and wrap the earth into one planet, by working against Master Emerald. Which still neutralizes the power of Chaos on Angel Island, causing it have its natural floating state. Further evidence of this is the precedent that Little Planet can exist without being large enough to sustain gravity. All planets with their respective energy stones simply have an additional push to their natural laws. Consider this, Master and Chaos are not really natural complements. It makes sense that the unique situation there is, that they simply are separate forces that CAN react to each other. Likewise, it was influence from Time Stones that caused Chaos emeralds to charge with a kind of recursive power for a while, you could say, a HYPER power, energy that is layered upon itself multiple times.

I mean... they probably intended it to imply the emeralds originated from somewhere off planet, but that's not something that's ever actually claimed in the game except by the interpretation of Sonic. Did the Ancients make them? Or did they discover them on their own planet and just learn a lot about them? Who's to say they originated on their planet and not from somewhere else? Maybe it does come from our/Sonic's planet and made its way around before eventually finding their way back to the Master Emerald? After all, according to Sonic lore, the emeralds were made by the gods and the Master Emerald was made afterwards to keep the emeralds in check because so many tried to use the Emeralds as weapons. Or maybe they're scrapping that for new lore because no one knows or remembers or takes seriously the old lore even when it still fits in the modern universe. The new story folks probably don't even consider it and just make something new to replace it. Who knows.

In practically all religions, the world starts out as a dark void filled only with water. The Greeks called this void Chaos. The creator then descends and uses its power of speech to produce light and shape the world. Many cultures around the world believed that said light came down from the Pole Star and divided itself into seven, which would be the seven stars of the Big Dipper asterism that signal the seasons. In Sonic lore, what if during the creation process said light refracted in the water and split into seven rays and those seven rays became the seven Chaos Emeralds? I think that could have been the origin for the concept behind them. That would also explain why Chaos is a watery creature named that way. A dragon is said to have been the personification of that primordial water hence why Chaos transforms into one when assimilating all Chaos Emeralds. In retrospect, the religion of the Ancients could be something like this, and they could have believed themselves to be parts of that primordial water brought to life by their god, who would be the aforementioned creator. They would then understand the Chaos Emeralds to be remnants of their god's creative powers and as gifts to be safeguarded and used responsibly.

I have a theory about the missing 7th emerald. There's a Game Gear game called Tails Adventure which serves as a prologue of Tails' life before Sonic 2. What if Tails followed said 7th emerald to South Island, got bullied by the naives, and subsequently met Sonic and helped him get the emeralds which could explain why Tails is even on South Island, because TRUE Sonic fans know that Tails is NOT from South Island. My theory to what happened to the emeralds after Chaos attacked I believe that the Emeralds, being around the Master Emerald at the time were in fact in their SUPER Emerald form. like how in sonic 3 the M.E turned them into Super Emeralds during it. The chaos emeralds were not on angel island during the start of sonic 3. They were brought to the island along with Sonic at the beginning of the game. However, the altar for the master emerald was still built to house both the master and chaos emeralds, which would have been the super emeralds at the time of being built. Chaos, formed from a Chao coming in contact with the M.E and becoming a Super Ancient of sorts, He then wipes out a large portion of the Echidnas before being locked in the Master Emerald by Tikal. In response the Master Emerald would lift the landmass high into the sky, making Angel Island, to stay separated and protected from outside threats. The remaining Echidnas going onto protect the Master Emerald after realising their own Hubris was their undoing. till their population was widdled down to just Knuckles centuries later, leaving their constructs like Sky Sanctuary, Marble Garden and Hydro-city abandoned and empty. centuries later the main game canon kicks off.

Well fuck did I now create a crappy sonic oc. I just recently became a (full blown 100%) sonic fan after watching sonic prime, and decided to design my own character (an artist as I am). I decided to go with a porcupine villain oc, that has the power of freezing time with his flute weapon. Now. Whag makes him a villain (or more like antihero) is that he has a great fear of time itself. The idea of time eventually catching up to him, and kill him, so he got obsessed with obtaining some sort of immortality. He got this flute which held the power to freeze the time all around the person who used it. And this gave my character a massive ego problem. He got control of the very thing he was afraid of, and he started to think he was a god. I want to keep this character believable to the sonic universe so I started thinking if he needs a chaos emerald to be anle to control his power. I don't know how it works

I don't know why Sega is so resistant to allowing non-Hedgehog characters to turn Super in the modern Sonic games. Canonically, they can all use them. They just don't. It's like if Nintendo didn't want anyone other than Mario and Luigi using invincibility stars. It makes the other characters feel like they're not really all that important, because we've seen the story countless times. They go on some sort of quest for the MacGuffins, and then have to wait until Sonic/Shadow can use them to turn Super and get to the fight the game wants to have them in, which is the only important thing to the story. In other words, it's a poor decision that is in serious need of reform, because we've basically had the same game several times because of it. This is seriously getting old. One of two things needs to happen. Either modern Sonic needs to start allowing other characters (Knuckles, Tails, Amy etc...) to turn Super, or they just need to get rid of the Emeralds altogether and never use them again. They are doing nothing for the character development in this franchise if only a couple characters can even use the things.

there is still somthing that bothers me, the gaia temples, how do they fit into the choas emerald lore. like the temples were there, and made for the choas emeralds an extremly long time ago. becuase light and dark have been fighting sense the begining of the earth. so how did light win, if the gaia temples are needed to restore the earth.

so the new IDW comics ARE canon so the Warped Topaz is also canon, we now that the Phantom Ruby is also canon. I can only think that the Chaos Emeralds are native to earth (if only for the fact the Master Emerald was left here) who is to say that the Ancients, with assess to advanced tech didn't already find Earth long ago looking for a better power source. Hell there could be MANY magical gems that Earth might have hidden away. One question I do have is if there are 7 emerald of different colors could there be more Rubies and Topazes of other colors too?

In your Shadow the Hedgehog analysis video, you mentioned the way that the Sonic-X anime adaptation of sonic adventure adds emphasis on there being two capsule’s that fall from the sky when Maria saves Shadow. Do you think that this is going to be/could revitalized to imply that perhaps sonic was an ancient aboard the space colony arc? Maybe he’s a form of some sort of ancient?

I love the more mysteries than answers approach to the Emeralds wit Frontiers & I hope they keep that up FOREVER! Sonic's connection to me is jus cus as the MC of his World(heh) he like the CHAOS emeralds is PURE chaos incarnate so the emeralds naturally attract to him thus he is the ONLY 1 (aside from Shadow/Silver) who can use the Emeralds to their full potential & become Super(like Blaze wit the Sol Emeralds). Like Sonic said tho still a little weird they're from space now. I would LOVE more lore on other mystical stuff like THE 7 WORLD RINGS or knuckles tribe or the Sol Emeralds

The seven world rings are from a magical book of stories that sonic owns. The Knuckles tribe are a coalition of echidnas who all found a common need to live together. They were lead by Tikal's unnamed grandmother until her death. Then Tikal's father took over. He wanted to take over vast swaths of land from other tribes, and sought the emerald's power to do so. I don't know the origin of the sol emeralds, so sorry I can't answer that one.

@@nightlydata2181 What more is there to know about them though? The rings only exist within a specific book, which we know the exact location and circumstances of. And we know the Knuckles clans origins, history, leadership succession, war efforts, and downfall. There really isn't much else left to know.
