I enjoyed this series. When you have an unorganized leader or manager it makes work difficult. But if you have a manager or leader who get their hands dirty and helps employees with tasks it can show that they are dedicated and inspires better work ethic with their employees.

I appreciate how these 5 skills tract to personal management. I wouldn't call it a perfect preparation because you aren't including other people, but anyone can begin by apply these principles to their lives. If we were more proactive about managing our own lives, and then putting ourselves out there in groups that we are already a part of (including family groups), then maybe being a manager wouldn't be out last stop with the Peter Principle. ^.^

Going along with the previous video of the differences between a leader and a manager, I agree that the best managers/leaders know how to unlock and channel the potential of others through the 5 functions of management that you have discussed in this video.

I think this video shows the needs of these functions especially in business today due to COVID-19 we must be constantly changing. I personally have struggled with these in the past as a manager and have fallen because i didn't know them. I will take this to future jobs and remember there importance.

I appreciate that you focus on fundamentals in your video series. It allows listeners to apply what we’ve learned to different areas of our lives. This series seems targeted toward businesses, but I’m glad you’re not limiting these principles only to businesses. Being a good leader and manager is important in personal relationships, too- in our households, arranging birthday parties, or even going to the beach with friends. Something that I’m interested in hearing you talk about is how “authority” applies to leadership and management. Obviously, your friends aren’t going to consider you a revered “authority” of which hamburger buns should be brought to the backyard BBQ (unless you’re some sort of buns connoisseur), but someone DOES need to be in charge of logistics, to ensure that someone’s bringing the soda and chips, too!

You really get what I'm trying to convey. All too often when we think of leadership and management we get stuck thinking about the workplace. We don't see ourselves as leaders and managers, and in so doing miss a great opportunity to exercise more influence in our lives and make meaningful things come to pass.

I like the term “people managers” as opposed to just managers. I feel that this creates a larger outlook and it feels more applicable to other real world situations, not just in the workplace. I also liked how you mentioned that the best managers know how to motivate and inspire their people. When employees, or followers feel appreciated and understood, they will perform better.
