I had a class of gifted students that were all progressing well. There was one student that was lower and also had some problems at home but due to the environment and the welcoming encouragement of the others was able to achieve much more than I would have expected. I had another who was 2E but profoundly gifted. Their emotional intensity was challenging but they quickly learned coping and masking strategies. Perfectionism and anxiety were already an issue so during creative lessons the capacity for focus and details made dealing with mistakes very stressful for everyone. Another aspect I didn’t anticipate is that these students quickly tried to find their own niche where they could garner praise for their excellence. The same thing happened in previous years with the gifted students when among more average kids.
