Another advantage of transfer packets is that you can send players to another proxy eg, the main proxy is in the US, but you also have a proxy in the EU which is useful for stuff like minigame servers as you can send players to the EU server to improve ping, but send them to US if there are few players on EU, a lot how some bedrock servers do it

Great video, I completely missed this update! I did some looking and I think you might have overlooked the cookie packets part of this update. They could handle the concern you brought up about a server enabling this can’t reject connections, they technically could if the server that sends them includes a cookie which is then verified by the server that they are being sent to. Not to get too technical, but the cookie payload could be constructed in a way that would prevent any sort of tampering and could verify that it originated from a trusted origin server. If anyone is interested you could look into how JWTs work with HMAC.

it could work by sharing a key with the player like private and public key its basicly the same way how minecraft auth works

I like the new transfer protocol. If anyone uses it I recommend they turn on whitelisting as it should stop randos from joining, unless you want randos.
@chrissametrinequartz93892 ай бұрын
they also need to know your ip and port (but tbh, there are alot of bots and so they would probably end up finding it regardless)

I don't think transfer packets will replace proxy servers, at least not right now. One of the main advantages of having a proxy server set up is that you can provide a single IP address or domain name to join the server, without the need of exposing each server inside the network to the internet, which could be a very serious security problem
@chrissametrinequartz93892 ай бұрын
aswell, players/staff don't have to remember the ip/domain and or port (especially if its a random port)

I don't believe transfer packets will replace reverse proxies based on BungeeCord, as using a reverse proxy only the proxy server needs DDoS protection, not the game servers which're behind a firewall + with cloud services minigame networks can spun up proxies and game servers on-demand to handle player count spikes. If networks decide to use transfer packets they'll have to reinvent the whole thing.
@xfsdark2 ай бұрын
proxy and transfer packet main server that transfers you to another server / main server also you could send a 5kb cookie with the player so it could contain data you could do some kind of auth with it so it accepts only players that are transferred from the proxy still this is a new thing, i will try to work with it to make some uses for it this might be useful if you made a website / server that makes you join servers quickly like add your server and add an npc
@DaylightDev2 ай бұрын
But how do you control who can connect to that server from outside and make sure that it's your own redirect? This won't work with closed networks. Or does it basically proxy the data through the original server instead of dropping the connection, so it can redirect to a local IP? Okay, you answered most of that

I really dislike the way everyone visualizes server networks, the lobby server is not directly connected to other servers, it's the proxy that's connected to each server, the lobby is just a normal server like any other that's simply used as the default
