What are your thoughts around NO GI: are T-shirts and loose shorts okay to wear?
@nellyramirez9564 жыл бұрын
I understand tshirts if the guys are not too involve in the sport. I just wish some people will try to choose the tidest shirts at the closet ( I have a training partner who wears soccer's jerseys , yes the material is acceptable but the size is dangerous ) Also agree about wearing something under the shorts ;) Great content ! I'm not a guy over 40 but I'm into BJJ and I love Nogi

Thanks 🙏. I appreciate your support and love having a woman’s perspective on this channel! Please keep the comments coming. Loose shirts can be a problem and should be discouraged by the instructor (in my opinion).

thats how we used to do it in the early 2000s, we just took the gi top off and do a few rounds with just the shirts underneath or no shirt to practice no gi

Thanks so much for this video man. I’m starting no-gi classes and had literally no clue what to wear. The front desk people said I could wear gi pants and a t-shirt but that seems so counter productive to the point of no-gi.
@FloridaTwoWheelAdventures4 жыл бұрын
It does seem counterproductive in a way. But a few times my school decided to go nogi at the start of class and of course all I had was my gi. So I went pants and no jacket. I discovered the biggest difference is how the techniques differ when you can’t grab sleeves or collars. Fewer techniques deal with pants control (at my level at least) so learning how to apply chokes and such against a person wearing a tee shirt is the real benefit. So if all you can do is wear the pants and a tee shirt, it’ll be fine!
@midlifebjj4 жыл бұрын
Gi pants are fine...just beware that your opponent may use them to control you...much like they would in the Gi...if the culture is okay with a T-shirt - I wouldn’t rush out to buy anything until I was sure I was going to continue no Gi! As for the video....thank you for the video idea, brother! I appreciate your support! 🙏

No-Gi classes can leave mats looking like small ponds with certain kinds of mats. I like to wear tights underneath shorts to avoid feeling a little icky when I slide into one . Also, I wear a rash guard with a t-shirt over it. However, I wear a dri-wick type of t-shirt and not the cotton kind. If you don't want to wring out your shirt, they are to be avoided. - If you do consider wearing gi-pants, just note in tight spots, some people will cheat and use them like in a gi class. With shorts, no one will bother because they know it's wrong. - As far as women are concerned, as I record video, I haven't been able to post certain rolls because my wife would cancel my membership if she saw some of the outfits some of the women have worn.

MouthGuardComic so true about the Gi pants...but also great advice for anyone that doesn’t have spats...just use your Gi pants...thanks as always!
@FloridaTwoWheelAdventures4 жыл бұрын
MouthGuardComic I took my wife to a class once so she could see where I was spending my time. Wouldn’t ya know it, the kickboxing class wrapping up before BJJ was littered with 20-something chicks wearing outfits which don’t scream “This is a safe environment for your husband!” Fortunately she never said a word about it. I think all those girls leaving when BJJ started helped. 😂

Man Unfiltered the struggle is real. I joined my school on a 3 month contract which ends this month. I’ve really enjoyed the relationships with the students but I’m having a hard time feeling like there is any rhyme or rhythm to the teachings. We have no curriculum so it kind of feels like I learn whatever the various coaches want to teach that particular. On your advice, I bought the Jiu Jitsu Encyclopedia and it explains how each belt should have a dominant focus. As a white belt, I should be learning a lot about survival but instead, I’ve predominantly learned submissions. I’m confused myself about what to do. I’d really like to attend a school which has a consistent coach (I seem to have about 3 different ones) and some stable curriculum. Like the Gracie Combatives course. I just don’t want to leave the school because I like the atmosphere. I’ll be waiting with interest to hear about your struggle. Thanks for replying and I’m glad all is well with you brother. Take care! Keith

Man Unfiltered I’m gonna do it. I’ve contacted the only Gracie certified training center in my area which is a one hour drive away. The instructor is giving me a private lesson and I hope it works out like it has in my head. I really crave the structure of the CTC and even though I will spend more in gas, the tuition is slightly less. I’m eager to hear how you’re doing. I know things are hectic for you but I hope all is well.

How familiar are you with the textiles used in typical sportswear? Many of them have toxic components that are absorbed by our skin and eventually cause harm in the body. Do you have any advice on that?
