My set up Lexa 400 30# ugly stick Shimano 2500 LD #65 Mega PE 3-6 Shimano Ocea 4000 #80 Mega PE 308 Big Question is? Should or must I really get the JMMR PE 8 with 80# also when I already have the Ocea 4k?
@DerrickVan4 ай бұрын
@phantomrider07 the ocea jigger 4000 is a rice reel however on the bigger models it suffers in drag. I think having a Monster Game is a luxury however. You can 100% try jigging with your ocea first and see if you like it. Most important piece of the setup is the rod but it is closely followed by the reel

You covered a lot of ground, Derrick! I read through the comments so I know where you are at. This place was totally off my radar. I used a Penn 25N flylining and nearly got spooled. What would you suggest just incase the big boys are chasing your bait?
@DerrickVan4 ай бұрын
A very popular reel from penn that people have been using for the bigger bluefin are biting bait is the Fathom 40NLD. Sinker rig and flyline reel, it works for night as well
@jtuck6824 ай бұрын
Thanks, Derrick! I was thinking about that reel also, but I saw that the Okuma Alijos AJ-16ll could hold 750 yards of 80# braid and has a max drag of 48 lbs. (although pricier) I'm just trying to find the smoothest braid and the smallest diameter monofilament, so I that I could swim a bait more effectively?

@Bernardovillanueva4 ай бұрын
The rating on the rod is for jig weight. Nothing to do with how much you can pull bigger fish as you are really fighting them straight to your reel mostly. Am I right ? I custom wrap my Blackhole 250 around 2017, it can dance 200- 300g lure nicely during the day, and not going back to broom stick just too painful to land them big ones.
@DerrickVan4 ай бұрын
@Bernardovillanueva yes I mainly base it off of how it works the jig. On the larger fish I do like a stiffer rod but generally the 100 lber range I fight them with a medium jig action rod and it does fine

@AndyArellano-zr5uz I would try out a underhead reel, evike has some on red tag. I just hopped off a JM sponsored trip where the JM crew was using underheads and I am impressed. Hello Derrick... Great Vid. I have a question about the assist hook. So the hook you use is Suteki Maboroshi 4/0 and Suteki Crafter 4/0 on the natureboys (wiggle rider 300g) and (west coast jigger 300g). In your opinion are these hooks big enough for 80+ BFT? or should we use larger hooks for the larger fish? Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you.
@DerrickVan3 ай бұрын
@rainesf231 I've used the maboroshi 4/0 on 160lb bluefin on tight drag with no issues. I've had good success with the crafters too, I honestly think if you are gonna change out your hooks often the maboroshi is fine but the crafters will hold out longer

@@DerrickVan Thank you so much. Because of this vid. I went down to Evike on Monday and bought some gear. Now I have to go back. lol Sorry I have another questions. For the Wiggle rider 300g should I use twin assist or just one assist top and bottom? For the WestCoast would you recommend twin assist on the bottom only? I also got smaller Wiggler riders 265g and 190g. Do you think Single hook top and bottom 3/0 Maboroshi or use the 4/0 too? I wish I could just meet you there and get your advice in person lol. Sorry for all the questions.
@DerrickVan3 ай бұрын
@@rainesf231 I like running top and bottom on long jigs and twins on the bottom for shorter jigs. I noticed the top hook prevents bluefin from choking the jig because the top hook catches the top of their mouth. The 3/0 works good for the 190, for the 265 I would still run the 4/0. I'd run your single hook on the top

Not at all, sometimes when I need a break, I rest the tip of my foregrip on the rail, then get back up to fighting in my arm pit. They definitely come up faster with these shorter rods
