Up in the Canadian prairies my local store had Weller Special and EH small just put out, I grabbed a Weller as it was in my means but went back a week later for the EH and was surprised to only see one left and only my Weller gone As a noob I really had no choice but to buy the last one for 144 CAD after tax, they literally flew off the shelf so clearly it was either a good price for this area or that rare to come across so my hands were tied by the "yolo" factor

Love the “what should I buy and how much is it worth” series! BT stuff is impossible to find around me (as it is for everyone), and in NC, since it’s state controlled and thus priced at MSRP, when they hit stores, they’re gone in minutes. I’ve only scored regular BT and ER in my searching (and Benchmark, but I don’t have hunt for that). I’ve traded for Stagg Jr and LOVED it! I’ve had pours of GTS and EHT SB BP, but those were at bars so I could sample what I’m missing out on hahaha. The irony of this video being the first in this series is that I would never tell a newbie to bourbon to check out Buff Trace Distillery... not because their juice isn’t good (it’s phenomenal) but because it’s impossible to find without paying secondary. And who is getting into bourbon and can (1) find those local shady secondary Facebook groups or (2) has the funds to drop $120-$500 to spend on the upper echelon of BTD? The only BT products I’d point the true newbies to bourbon to (like family, local friends, coworkers, etc) are benchmark, BT, and ER. Otherwise, I’m pointing them to 80-100 proof bottles of Elijah Craig, Bulleit, Pikesville rye, Knob Creek small batch, Four Roses small batch, Yellowstone, Makers 46, 1792 small batch, Russels Reserve small batch, etc. But I do think this series will be fantastic and I look forward to more! Thanks for the info and your thoughts!

They used to (it's been so long since I've seen one I can't confirm it is still there) put two DSP numbers on the EH Taylor Rye. The DSP's were for Buffalo Trace and Barton. Most everything I've read says Taylor is a different mashbill (60-80% rye the rest malted barley, no corn). It's also possible this is the same mashbill as Fleishman's Rye (also made at Barton) and the same stuff that was sold off and blended into High West and Kentucky Owl. I did a tasting with the master distiller at Barton recently and he certainly didn't deny they were distilling the Taylor. He also all but confirmed there will be a 1792 Rye.
