Great perspective on some over rated allocated juice. Buffalo Trace/Pappy figured out how to market bourbon so that hype outweighs quality. There is so much good bourbon sitting on the shelf and affordable. Thanks Drew P!

Weller 12 is $40 in Ohio but only pushed out via State Lottery. Ancient Age has 3 expressions. The 90 and ten star aren’t bad for the price. We need to start a list of what allocated bottles are easy to get in each state. Ohio- WSR, OWA. Michigan- Eagle Rare. Kentucky- BT/ McKenna 10.

I like that idea.

Totally with you regarding the Ohio prices. Antique goes for $149 where I am IN KY!!!! Forget it. There is an FAE-01 that's getting the wheated attn in my place.

Weller 12 is a lottery item here in Washington at all the stores I shop at. The liquor store a few blocks from me used to have liters of 107 antique for $25 and 750's of 12 for $30. I used to buy both and mix them in my decanter as my daily. They also had all the mashbill 2 on the shelf. I almost always had a bottle of Elmer T Lee. Just to rub it in, it was $12 for very old Barton 6 year bib. That was my cocktail bourbon. I miss 2012.

Why no mention of Weller Full Proof or Single Barrel?

I've never met a Weller I liked. Aside from the green label Special Reserve, I've never seen a Weller bottle o the shelf, but I've tried most of the others at a Whisky bar. Maybe I'm just not a wheated bourbon fan, but I love the Larceny Barrel Proofs.

Just went to a nice liquor store in Michigan. Here’s some of their crazy prices. WLW 2022: $2200 Weller 12: $499 EH Taylor Small: $179 EH Taylor Single: $299 Eagle Rare: $99 Blantons: $199

Good video Drew! No love for Weller Full Proof, SiB, and CYPB? LOL From what I gather it sounds like most of the bottles mentioned in this video, with the exception of 107 and WLW, are overhyped and if I can get them at or near msrp I should buy them and trade for something better. W12 has a trade value of 200 where I live. Traded one a few months back for a Stagg Jr batch 15.

For me, at $24, Weller SR is a fine daily drinker. 107 and Full Proof are my favorites. Enjoyed the video!
@jakeizlove3 жыл бұрын
Local store doesn't charge over MSRP. I've had 3 bottles of Antique, plenty of Reserve, but only scored one 12. haven't tried the 12, yet. It's sitting there waiting patiently. I'm able to get a bottle or two of Blanton's each release. The Reserve is probably my favorite, at MSRP. Not sure how I'd feel about it at $50. It's hard to explain, but ...the Antiqe only stands out if I drank another burbon beforehand. It seems livelier, when compared to something else. As a daily drinker, I enjoy the Reserve much more and can't really keep an opened bottle in the house too long. Enjoy the Stagg Jr a lot. Passed up on a bottle of Stagg about two years ago because it was more than I felt like spending that day.

I am surprised that when you were talking about the Weller lineup you did not talk about Weller Full Proof. Of the Wellers that I have had that is my favorite. I have not had the 12, Single barrel, CYPB, or WLW. Not a big fan of the Special Reserve, but love the 107 and Full Proof.

Just won a lottery from Va ABC to purchase WLW for $100. Since I’m not a fan of wheated bourbons I was hesitant to buy it but having seen the resell value I’ll probably make the purchase and hold onto it for a few years.

Or you could trade it to me. ;) JK. Buy it. And try to find it at a bar and give it a sip. You might love it. I bet you would.

Wayne...congrats. You are very lucky and I’m glad you bought it. If it’s really not your style and you want something else I’d be happy to trade you almost anything I have. I’m in Raleigh so not too far. My first bourbon was a Weller product at my best friend’s wedding so their line holds a special place for me and this is my unicorn bottle. If you do open it and would like to swap samples I’m up for that as well. I’m a drinker not a flipper. Again...congrats and I’m quite jealous!!
@waymor24603 жыл бұрын
@@Bergkampgunner Thanks Erik. I did end up making the purchase. My sis-in-law and her husband are big bourbon fans so I will probably give it to them if I decide not to keep it. Finding a bar that carries WLW hasn’t been easy, at least going by their online menus. There’s a whisky bar in DC that has the 2018 release but it’s $55 for a one ounce pour, can’t justify that when I have a 750 ml bottle at home that cost me $100. Let me know if there are some good whisky bars you’d recommend in the Raleigh area. I’ve got family there so we’re down there from time to time. Thanks.
@Bergkampgunner3 жыл бұрын
@@waymor2460 that sounds about right. Getting a pour of any BTAC is ridiculous. The best whiskey selection I’ve seen is Hoppy Endings. They’ve got everything from fireball to bottles worth over 10000. They probably have a WLW. For ambiance my favorite place is foundation. It’s walking distance to some good restaurants downtown as well but I typically have a cocktail there not straight whiskey. My house has a pretty good selection as well. I actually went to middle school in McLean so funny how small the world is! I hope you make it down here... and bring that bottle with you 🤪

We used to buy Weller 12 in college because it was genuinely bottom shelf. I remember thinking I had taken a step up when I bought a bottle of Woodford Reserve because Woodford was $30 and W12 was $25 haha! I truly can’t believe how stupid the market has gotten around that bottle.

Also I think a cool subject for a video is whether it really makes sense to collect bourbon. Not to say it’s bad but when do you get to a point that you wouldn’t be able to drink all the bourbon in your collection in a lifetime and how you go about winding down a collection

Agree. I go in about once a month to laugh at their prices and low key break balls. I do not know how these Indian run stores in my area get away with it... And before people call me racist it’s just facts in my area. The stores that seem to have the most allocations also seem to abuse that privilege and also seem to be from the same part of the world. My hunch was they must work together and one guy said all but that.

Every once in a while you will find a store pick of Eagle Rare or Buffalo Trace that is actually mashbill #2. Supposedly if a barrel fits the mashbill #1 profile, they'll move it. I don't think they do the reverse, but I don't know for sure.

Buffalo trace does an excellent job of keeping prices down but all their products are so over hyped. Once you blind taste them I think you'll agree. The cheapest I see Blanton's for is around 65 and there are so many Bourbon's out there that are better. No doubt they do an exceptional job with marketing and bottle design but look at knob creek and brown foreman products before you start wasting your money on placebo.
