Many of you have guessed and the results are finally in!
Scarlett was in dire straights when I purchased her from a loose horse sale in Montana for only $25!
After a year of rest and rehab I am finally ready to do a deep dive into her heritage.
I had no information on her breeding, only the area in which she was gathered from.
I was SHOCKED to finally find out what breed she has genetic similarities with!
You can find her 1 year rehab video here ~
• $25 Auction RESCUE hor...
You can see more about what her health struggles have been here~
• ~Genetic testing my $2...
Alot of you have asked how you can help the horses I rehab.
Here is our Amazon wishlist with a few things that we always need!

These are fantastic news! I guess I owned one and had the honour to train him for 11 years. I bought as a young horse, no knowing what he was (there were no easily accessible DNA tests at that time). I bought him as an Andalusian mix (I live in Germany). He developed into pretty much the spitting image of a Criollo. He had very much a mind of his own and remained a fighter. Despite regularly being told "get yourself a real dressage horse", I did not quit. He could be extremely stubborn, but was also absolutely sweet and charming. He loved to go places, try out new things (I had to make very clear that I was the leader), never was afraid of anything as long I said "it is okay". He got himself into trouble sometimes (water trenched were no means of holding him in, he just jumped in, crossed it, and got out). Think nowadays I might have tried jousting with him - he was that brave. As it was, we just got to the highest level of dressage. Sadly, my health very much went downhill, I developed serious asthma (I could only groom with a dustmask on during the final year of us being together). So I had to sell him, as I really wanted to see my daughter grow up. It was very sad, but it was still the right thing to do. He found a great new home with a loving owner (I checked back for him several times). By now, he went happily over the rainbow bridge. All in all, I hope he had a good life.

Beautiful elegy to a wonderful companion and partner. I never have found the best words to describe my years with my Idaho bred Appaloosa stallion/gelding. He was the best horse friend I ever had. Like your horse, a one of a kind.

Isn't DNA amazing...and wonderful that you could find her "lineage" (breeds, not sire or dam, of course)...and so nice of you to share that with us. She is what Canadians call a "Wildie"...there are BC Wildies, Alberta WIldies...they pretty much share many of the traits as Scarlet...very resilient, hardy (prefer outside to inside) and a little stubborn. You are dead on correct when you say that once you have a friend in a "wildie" they are friends for life. You are one lucky and Clever Cowgirl 🤗

ahh perfect name for her Scarlet. With all the facts rolling in about your findings, everything about her is lining up making full sense of her ability to survive the most ridiculous conditions and her finally developed features that tell of her genetic historical facts. This field of interest is definitely your expertise in risk taking. She turned out to be quite the gem in the rough. Without you she would have been left unpolished and completely crushed to dust. I am not saying all horses are worth investing into as you know first hand all the reasons to why that is from genetic issues , health issues, mental issues, irreparable damages issues, and the list goes on. It is fantastic you take the extra effort in educating us all on what risks are out there, what to look for, what to do , what not to do, the unexpected, and know our limitations that some of us are not equipped to take on certain risks in horses and ponies. Discovering these very things are life saving for both humans and equine.

I would definitely take on a reservation horse. Mustangs and wild horses can be the most trusted companions as they tend to bond strongly with their owners. In this case, you are adding toughness and durability to the mix along with a hearty helping of intelligence. If anyone has owned a herding dog they would be well familiar with that!

I definitely would have brought her home. I trained a small mustang to ride and drive. He was so stubborn to start but once we really started to bond , he was very very good. Best driving horse so sensitive and smart, also steady as a rock.

I would also, but it depends on the reservation's location. Some of the reservations in AZ unfortunately have a lot of in breeding and many are very small and scrawny with poor conformation. I would love to have known about the areas you pointed out where the wild horses there are from the US Calvary, which did have some great horses, and the Spanish breeds that were left to go wild, mixed in with Quarter horses that may have been left by unsuccessful gold diggers or simply let to go wild by people who could no longer afford to keep them.

Now I just wonder exactly what QH bloodlines she has. :) Best of luck with her. I think you're right; she'll be a good, solid, sensible horse down the road And probably quite athletic.

Thank you for the history lesson on the three breeds in Scarlett’s DNA. What a tragic history the Trakehners have.

I am impressed with the time and care you put into this video. I always enjoy learning new things and the three A&M breed markers were really interesting, made more so by the details you provided. We lived in Placitas, new Mexico for several years adjacent to several reservations. There were groups of reservation horses ( off rez) everywhere. During the drought years they really suffered due to lack of grass. It will be interesting to see how your mare takes to training. Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences!

My God, you are so entertaining!!! I loved watching Scarlet transform. You're so amazing and big hearted. I love that you appreciate about Scarlet the very behaviors that others try to avoid. And how beautiful that once "you capture their mind, you have a friend for life". Yeah. Good job!!!! Namaste'

The criollos you showed in the video look more like Dülmener Wildhorses to me. A breed of Wildhorses in Germany. Your horse is a beauty! I've worked at a stud farm that bred Trakehner, Zweibrücker and Thoroughbreds when I was 15. Was a great time there, beautyful horses.

What a true diamond in the rough. She is growing into a beautiful horse. Can't wait to watch your journey with her. Have always loved wild horses especially when I read Riders of the Purple Sage as a child which gave me a great appreciation of wild horses. Stopped riding years ago but love your channel and enjoy watching what you do with your horses and the other animals.

The early pictures of her with the high rear reminds me of what we dog people call the puppy uglies. They grow in fits and starts and takes them (dogs) about 3 years to achieve adult bone and muscle. She was very lucky to find you, as you were to find her. I'm too old to take on horses now, with old injuries reminding me every day I can't do what my muscle memory tells me. The end with you lunging her tells me she's got a lot of trust in you, and it was good you got her so young.
