it was my favorite all time power up in the mario series... but watching this video it's odd how what I thought I remembered isn't true. I thought i recall Mario tucked in the shell would avoid some of damage such as the lasers from the Bowser statues.

(8:56) Yeah, I already know that you can KO Bowser with hammers. Since fireballs defeat Bowser with 35 hits, you just have to have hammers overlap him for 35 frames, which can be done easily with just a few hammers depending on your aim. (9:14) The number of hammers required varies depending on how long they overlap Bowser, so it won't necessarily take 6 hammers. Perhaps you should see what an invincibility star can kill next.

Once I realized the hammer could take out most enemies the fireball couldn't, I got curious and abused save states to get to Bowser with the hammer suit. Holy crap, that fight is LAUGHABLY easy with hammers. He can't hit you if stay under the doorway and chuck hammers at him from below.

In one of the levels, a Giant ? Block contains a Hammer Bro suit. If you collect it while sliding on the nearby... slide, you will actually continue sliding and a never-otherwise-used sprite of Hammer Mario sliding appears.

Heh, I tested out a lot of this stuff with SMB3 and a Game Genie back in the early '90's. :) About Boom-Boom and Bowser, how many hammers can take them out depends on what angle the hammers pass through them. Depending on the angle, you could score one or multiple hits with a single hammer.

I'm not sure if this is true or not never opportunity to test it because because was pointless at least to me since I could get past them in the level fairly easily. But I've heard if you were to wait by a hammer brother in Super Mario Brothers one long enough and not do anything??? . Not try to to get pass them or shoot them with fireballs or anything at all again??? Supposedly if you stay by them long enough without doing anything just staying there of course not with the game on pause. That eventually the hammer Brothers will actually stop their normal actions and Chase Mario. Haven't played Super Mario Brothers and years and years and I'd heard that after I'd stop playing so I couldn't test it since didn't have it available! Does anyone know if this is true or not or a video on this or that has as mentioned in it! And also in Super Mario World that giant Boo is actually killable!

There technically exists a sliding sprite as Hammer Mario, but triggering it deactivates the pipes, costing a player a life via timeout. You basically have to slide down a slope and collect the Hammer Suit power up at the same time and then pause the game once you’ve done it.

I consider Hammer suit to be the more offensive-based counterpart to the statue-transforming Tanooki Suit. And there have been reasons the hammer suit didn't return for later Mario games... What ARE they thinking when they make Boom Booms get defeated in just one hit, Koopalings being unaffected, and then the king himself can be defeated with 6 hammer hits? ...and these hammers put out even the most annoying or otherwise undefeatable enemies such as Thwomps down in a single hit? ...we will never know the truth behind the logic
