This is very interesting. Finn is a sweetheart and you guys are great. I know many well socialized dogs on a forum I participate in that do not like their feet touched, especially the front. It is a common theme. I am not sure if they would bite though. The forum encourages people to do lots of feet touching with their puppies.

That is kind of what I am referring to when I say “socialization.” It’s not just about making your dog comfortable with people and dogs by meeting them. It should also be about teaching them how to safely interact with other people and dogs even when they are not happy. They might not like having their feet touched but it is necessary sometimes and they can’t bite people when they are unhappy about it.

@@TheStumpyBrigade Yes I agree completely. Some dogs have intensive grooming needs too so it is critical to be able to work on them. I am a first time dog owner with two dogs 13 and 14. Boy was I clueless. This kind of information would have been so helpful. My dogs turned out well “in spite of me” although I did work on them as I learned more and they did not come from backgrounds where they had developed issues to overcome.

@@TheStumpyBrigade I think lots of people don’t realize what socialization means. One lady on the forum thought she could socialize her dog by driving around the neighborhood with her dog looking out the window!

@@TheStumpyBrigade I just wanted to add that sometimes owners allow nails to get too long. This can cause some pain to the dog from walking around on long nails. This could contribute to them not wanting their feet touched.

This is definitely true! That’s why nail trimming is so important!
