Dr. Douglas J. Lisle, Ph.D.is the co-author of The Pleasure Trap available here:
www.amazon.com...
Dr. Doug Lisle is an evolutionary psychologist and co-author of The Pleasure Trap: Mastering the Hidden Force that Undermines Health and Happiness. He and his colleagues (Jennifer Howk and Richard Seidel) have developed a revolutionary method for approaching life challenges and improving self-confidence and self-esteem. They describe their approach as Esteem Dynamics - an approach with clinical insights derived from evolutionary psychology.
Central figures having major influence on the development of Esteem Dynamics include Richard Dawkins, John Tooby and Leda Cosmides, David Buss, Robert Trivers, Steven Pinker, and Geoffrey Miller. All of these individuals are considered world-leading theorists in evolutionary theory and human psychology. Somewhat surprisingly, insights from these trailblazers has yet to reach mainstream clinical psychology, and thus major advances stemming from some of the world’s greatest thinkers have yet to be systematically applied to problems of helping people improve their lives. Esteem Dynamics is the first such effort, and weds Dr. Lisle’s 30-years of clinical experience to the deep insights into human nature only recently available via evolutionary psychology.
Dr. Lisle received his undergraduate education from the University of California, San Diego. He completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Virginia, and was then appointed Lecturer in Psychology at Stanford University. His research and clinical interests include health and wellness, self-esteem, relationship satisfaction, the treatment of anxiety and depression, the genetics of individual differences, and optimizing achievement motivation. In addition to his work with Esteem Dynamics, Dr. Lisle lectures widely on health and wellness.
Dr Lisle is available at selected days and times for a one-to-one, personal phone consultation:

Happy to catch the replay. He did more for me in a 60-minute session than my monthly counseling sessions ever did. He really helped me navigate my panic attacks and anxiety. Also, never got on the meds that my counselor and now ex-Dr. kept pushing 😅

That's Dr B gastroenterologist. (Variety in the diet 30 plants per week idea) It's just a fun recommendation to aim for more diversity and it's supported science. (How long did your ancestors live, Mr E.P.? Weren't they just trying to not starve?) DDL hasn't read Dr B's book. Dr B is really making a reasonable recommendation. there's not a check list. Dr B likes to make better gut health fun and positive. IMO It's kind of dumb/silly to comment on a book with ideas presented that you haven't read or are not familiar with at all what is being proposed by the book.

Very interesting, I’m an exercise addict. If I miss more than one day, I go off the rails. I’m moody, distracted and hard to live with. My husband has even mentioned to me that I need to get out and ride my bike or run. I know I enjoy the rush of adrenaline and the satisfaction of staying on track. What is Dr. Doug’s thoughts be on this? Thank you Chef AJ for all you do. 🙏🏻🚴🚴🏻‍♀️🚴🏾‍♂️🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏃‍♂️🏋🏽‍♀️🏋🏽‍♀️🏋🏽‍♂️

Holy cow I need help. I’ve been compliant and working out for the last 2 months and still gaining. My new PCP in reviewing my labs, thyroid meds-hypothyroid , liver/kidney - a bit off-suggested once we ‘rule out’ an auto immune disease, she could get me on ‘enzyme’ replacement for enzymes we stop making as we age- I’m 61- and I about fell over when she then said it was “Mounjaro” the GLP-1 new craze (ozempic etc.). I already watched Dr. last live on these drug during the NAFLD topic and I said, “WHat? The poison of the Gila Monster drug that makes everyone sick as heck?!??!??!” She positioned more as a an anti-aging type thing but said it will make me stop wanting to ‘gorge on food’. I DON’T want to gorge on food !! I barely want to eat at all, but force myself with the steel cut oats and veggies and salads with lentils and beans at night. I went from wanting to drop 10-12 lbs to 15 now. Clearly something is off. Having abdominal scan on Monday to see if there is anything bigger concern with kidney /liver function. I eat and drink healthier than anyone I know, no alcohol , plenty of water- the only thing I drink and I love it….but lord…WTH? I”m about to open the file to submit my info to True North Clinic. (Dr’s are hard to find in my locale and great ones..even harder). I told my husband “no matter what, DO NOT let me succumb to ‘trying out’ that GLP-1 stuff. My god, the stuff I see people suffering thru just for losing weight. That said, Is there ANY enzyme we need as we age that can be replaced???? I’m on HRT. Went off it briefly to see if I could function without it. Umm….NO. Zero sleep , hourly soaking hot flashes at night….lady part misery….I gotta stay on it for now. Thoughts??

Still, I understand his point. Like he said previously, openness is about exploring and risk taking so it's natural most people won't make it. Although I find art inherently too fascinating and don't understand how most people aren't sensitive to it.

OMG- complete miss on nutritional psychiatry. Clearly- it’s focused on how processed - NOT natural-foods impact mental health. I love dr. Lisle but gosh these soap boxes get piled higher and higher. Begging for some self reflection
