Pretty much every time we eat out, my fiancée and I are getting some Asian food. Either Chinese American takeout, Indian, some pho, or sushi. Most other types of food I can make better at home, so I always feel like getting those is a real treat.

how much does labour cost in singapore?
@hanoic

I think it is less a factor of labour cost but more so where the food is from (and where more price competition is) Doubt you could find a NY slice in Singapore for $1 (of the same quality)
@elicious7574
@elicious7574 Жыл бұрын
@@MeowjinBoo New York has minimum wage so the difference between the minimum wage (14 USD) and the Singaporean average lowest wage (10-12 SGD) which is around 8 more SGD or 5.6 USD. But this doesn't cover the whole story, because the I think the main issue is the scarcity of certain ingredients that are used in the dishes. For example galangal like ginger or turmeric is a rhizome used primarily in Malay and Indonesian foods found at that Hawker. It's not readily (probably completely unobtainable) available in the states which means means to get the authentic taste of those foods will result in sharp cost of production. Not just uncommon ingredients but even common ingredients like garlic and ginger and chicken are more expensive in the USA compared to Singapore. With the higher price does come higher quality though. For example, beef in new York markets are more expensive but higher quality compared to Singapore wet markets.
@MeowjinBoo
@MeowjinBoo Жыл бұрын
@@elicious7574 food is this expensive regardless of what is it new york/chicago. When i was there earlier this year i paid like 20 USD for a bagel with some cream cheese. I thought it was a meme, and a meal at meat sandwhich place is like 30 USD. I think the cheapest meal I had when I was in new york was a slice of pizza and that was like 4 USD.
@jeremy_leow
@jeremy_leow Жыл бұрын
@@hanoic that's right. if Joe's or some other dollar slice place were to ever open up here, it'd cost like 5-6 times as much. I guess this just goes to show how much we value uniqueness and 'authenticity' from some other part of the world. ya'll value the Asian food I have so much access to here and I value the more Western stuff just as much to the point where we'd be willing to pay way more for it :)
