China's economy is on a steep downturn now, the bad loans through property, infrastructure and the Belt and Road initiatives will not be repaid. On top of that demographic decline and natural disasters are throwing unpredictable variables into economic planning so I doubt Xi will get a strong yuan anytime soon as the temptation to print their way out will cause devaluation.

Second comment: regarding yuan overtaking dollars as China's international medium of trade , Russia was forced to accept yuan for gas due to international sanctions, OPEC ditched the pricing of oil in dollars for reasons of their own and many African or Asian countries are not strong enough to refuse trade options with china as it is too much opportunity to turn down. None of this is a reflection of Chinese strength but rather pragmatism from others trying to cover their own weaknesses.
