Thank you so much for sharing this!! 梅菜扣肉 was a very special dish from my late grandmother. I could never find an English translation for the dish, so I was never able to learn to make it. It’s a very rare dish that I can’t find in restaurants or stores either! always served at big events, weddings, and to welcome me whenever I visit from the United States- this dish has a very special connection in my family! When my kids were young, I used to cut whole chicken with bones into small pieces to braise my chicken. Not anymore. No need for you to do that to the fish cause you can just ask them to do all that to the fish for you at the store you bought it at. Love all your dishes. Your husband doesn't look too happy flipping the fish. LOL.

Not really. Chinese people believe if you're a dragon and it's the year of the dragon it's not going to be a good safe year. Gotta go to the temple to pray for a safe year but there's also wood, fire, metal, water. This year is the year of the wood dragon. I really don't mean to be rude, I've watched this lovely lady's vlogs for awhile now and really enjoy her authenticity. But her kids....hopefully they are better in real life. Seriously it's Chinese New Year and your mom has put in such a lot of effort to celebrate the day and the girls can't even be bothered to change out of their pajamas?!! And I've never seen them help, not even to set the table, they just sit there while she serves them. I've even seen videos where they seem to make fun of her accent, there's just so little gratitude and appreciation shown by them. I know we should cut children some slack, but seriously i think they are old enough to treat their mum with more respect. Hopefully they are more respectful in real life, maybe it's just being on camera.

The fish better make sweet & soup sauce: ketchup(seasoning: ketchup, sugar, lemon juice, oyster sauce, light soy sauce) , dice tomatoes, cucumber, big onions, bell pepper. Toppings: green onion, cut thinly slices & parsley. Any CNY table dishes without aate of green vegetables is a no no. Finally, I would suggest a large bowl of 2 cans of sweetened water laici ice cubes will be ideal to end the dinner.

This just something we eat in China for thousands of years , Chinese medicine is believe that this sugar is called “Hong Tang” :) I don’t know if western medicine believes any of it ? So Hong tang cook with eggs and fermented rice .
