I know myself with coats, I will never feel comfortable in anything that isn't somewhat neutral. Instead I have invested in a wool scarf in cobalt blue a lot of years ago, and I find myself looking forward to wearing it every single year! Even if im changing to another style of coat now and again, the scarf makes the statement.

I love a long skirt for winter! They can be super warm since it’s basically creating a pocket of warm air around your legs. Plus you can even put sweatpants, leggings, knee high socks or whatever you like underneath and no one will even know 😉

I've recently watched Leena Norms on why we should wear more color in winter and she convinced me. Especially with the argument that you can serve this bit of color and energy among the darkness. I started to wear more color this year (pastels in addition to the darks that I've picked my whole life) but I've already been preparing to go back to my black coat for the cold months when I saw her video. I bought a vivid colorblock winter jacket instead. I love it ❤ I've also had health problems for a couple years that make me feel quite ugly. So wearing brighter colors also feels like a "f*ck you" to this urge of to disappear into the background. It feels like a little win :)

I love Leena Norms. And I'm so glad that you decided to get a colourful coat and that you love wearing it and feel good in it. That's such a victory 🙌🏼 It's great that you feel good again.

really really love this and decided to invest in something that makes you happy even in the miserable cold winter months!!! definitely agree that having a colourful & fun winter wardrobe is so impactful and applying this to a coat is a great way to make sure all your outfits have this! ❤

Last year I thrifted a huge black trench kind of jacket, my husband laughed (good natured) when I brought it home, pointing out that it is a "dress/blues" jacket for military uniforms. I changed the belt out, added pins and brooches on the lapel and took out the lining and it has been AMAZING for German fall/winter because I can easily wear my oversized sweaters and still button/zip the jacket, which is always tricky for me, especially after having kiddos. I've been bringing color to it all with bright scarves (I have a neon green one that I crocheted a few years ago) and fun bags.

I basically live in my thick, cozy pyjamas in winter. I literally shower and put on pyjamas and a fluffy bathrobe, as soon as come home in the late afternoon. It's dark outside, so no one can tell me to do otherwise 😉 I really need that maximum comfort to 'recover' from the perpetually cold and wet weather out there. Clothes wise I'm pretty much set for winter this year, I'm happy to say. I don't really need a single thing.

As someone who gets cold very easily, especially in winter: If you happen to find it anywhere or can sew, get a coat woollen coat lined with linen! I've never felt some comfortable in winter than when wearing my historical inspired cloak. I think wearing a linen shirt under a wool jumper should work as well 🤔 (It's more expensive but so worth it! And you rarely have to wash wool when you don't wear it directly on your skin!) If that's not an option for you, get a thick knitted jumper made of cotton. I have one jumper that is 100% of cotton and it keeps me warm the most.

Really long skirts are great for winter bc you can have several warm layers underneath without out it ruining the look (like, you can have thermal underwear, sweatpants, pajama pants, etc.), but there’s only so many layers that you can put under jeans.

The one piece of clothing i bought new this year is a green plaid dress- i knew as soon as i saw it that it would work with everything else in my wardrobe and it was from a responsible company (Pact). I'll be wearing it to my Christmas party with a bronze sequin waistcoat I thrifted, knitted cotton tights and my big black boots :) corduroy dungarees are on my wish list to find second hand!

I live in scandinavia and winter is sadly not the fashion season. Its dressing for survival not fashion atleast in outerwear. Atleast rurally as I live coats simply dont cut it. Beneath the bulky jackets and thick hats its fair game. I am partial to roomier pants i can get thermoleggings under and knit sweaters. Or layering certain dresses over black turtlenecks. Its easy to slip coveralls underneath when you head out and take off when inside. (But thermoleggings or thick knit stockings are an absolute must!)

would love a long wool coat. unfortunately 1) can't afford a good one even thrifted 2) the weather is the UK is honestly just not it for long coats like that. i live in a waterproof jacket in which I've attached a light down coat
@DragonriderEponaАй бұрын
Wool keeps you warm even when wet! Also, if you look for a coat that has like an attached capelet on it, it won't soak your shoulders that fast. But yes, good wool coats are unfortunately very expensive and nowadays even harder to find :(

@@DragonriderEpona I have an expensive wool coat that I thrifted kind of like the ones shown in the video, but it is not thick enough to keep me warm when its snowing. I think in some climates down jackets/puffer jackets are the only thing that' keeps some people fully warm.

Lovely video Katie! I’m seeing a lot of shapes come back around from ca. 2012 - 2014 and I absolutely excelled in winter in those years so I’m very excited. The only thing I don’t agree with you on is that the ski wear looks chic - those snow bunny sweaters look cheap and silly (but I live in a big ski town / near Whistler so maybe I just find it looks like a costume when all skiers here just wear dark waterproof clothing😂)

I'm in the market for a new coat and immediately thought of you when I found this so-called "wool coat" on Amazon, which lists its material content as 98% polyester, 2% viscose. Seriously, how is this not considered "false advertising?" Also, tangentially, I heard someone mispronounce "viscose" as "viscous" yesterday and... boy, does that paint a different picture. 😂

Personally I really love silk for a going out top. Ive recently updated my whole wardrobe with massimo dutti, zara, lilysilk, levis etc. Ive spent a bit more per clothing item than i used to, but have tried to get better quality materials and construction. Also, in the uk, vinted can be really useful. Charity shops too. I found a massimo dutti cardigan and top (pure cashmere) for under £60 recently.

I'm keeping it simple yet practical. During the brutal winters in the Midwest here in the states I'll be wearing what I've worn for the past 3 years; my black Northface puffer coat I purchased secondhand from Ebay. When it gets 20 below no one gives a rat's what they look like. For milder winters I keep it simple yet timeless; black mid length wool over coat or a herringbone wool blend coat to elevate basic top n jeans and these were also purchased secondhand at a non profit thrift store. I only shop secondhand. Our poor earth needs saving.
