I have two problems with this. 1) It's my understanding that we do have records of at least some of the deaths of the named Disciples, as well as many other unnamed (in the Bible) early Christians, who were given the option of being executed or avoiding that fate by renouncing their faith. If this is the case, please explain why someone who knew Jesus, personally, would choose death in that instance, if it was all bunk. 2) if I remember the 2nd one, I'll edit.

he claimed to limit himself to what can be established from the limited evidence we have. Yet none of the accounts support Jesus believing he would defeat world governments and set up his own earthly kingdom, and all the accounts indicate Pilate was coerced into executing him. the resurrection is attested to very early, in Paul's letters which are the earliest known Christian documents, in all the gospels, even in non-canonical 1st cent Christian literature. It would be difficult to prove it was a later development. while the recorded sayings of Jesus include apocalypticism, they also draw from wisdom literature and rabbinical teaching. the speaker was selective and unbalanced in what he emphasized.

@@microrest Other apocalyptic preachers of the time taught that the messiah would come and liberate israel. in the gospels, Jesus avoided that kind of idea. Jesus did not mention a rapture. Jesus predicted the destruction of Jerusalem. He didn't know when it would be but he figured it would be within the lifetime of people who heard him. It happened around 40 years later. Because he used apocalyptic language to describe it, some people conflated this event with Christ's return. The Israelite hope was that the messiah would bring the kingdom of God, so his early followers thought Christ's return was imminent. You'll see indications of this in the New Testament. Starting in the 19th cent some began to teach it was about a rapture, but that's a very modern idea. It wasn't taught by Jesus or the apostles.

Christianity is all about faith. No one can prove anything about what's written in the Bible.I was not there, neither were you, so belief comes by revelation by God Himself. His laws are written in our hearts, if we have a relationship with Him. I know it is not scientific but this is how I believe it all works. The Bible states that Jesus said " many are called, but few are chosen". Even if you think this is a lot of " bunk", I still believe Jesus teachings are better than anything that you or I can make up. It's all by faith, because if it were by proof, then it's not faith anymore!! I'm going to keep believing, how about you?

Aramaic is a Semitic language similar to Hebrew. There is no original Aramaic Bible, nor, to the best of my knowledge, has there been a translation of our current Bible into that language. Some of the Dead Sea Scrolls contain Aramaic language passages, but that is about it. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew. All books of the New Testament (along with the deuterocanonical books in the Catholic Bible) were originally written in Koine Greek.

I'm a bit skeptical of the claim at that Jesus did not believe that the kingdom of God was place that the soul went to after death, but rather a kingdom on earth that he would rule as a kind of political leader while living. Even if you ignore the accounts of Jesus foretelling his own death and resurrection, many other sayings attributed to Jesus (e.g. the story of the rich man and Lazarus, his teaching about there being no marriage in the resurrection, comments on the poor in this life being raised up in the next, etc.) seem to indicate that he believed the kingdom of God was an eternal kingdom that the soul went to after death rather than just a new state like the Roman empire. The lecturer in this video points out that some of Jesus' teachings appear to be based on existing apocalyptic views in the Jewish tradition, but then he just assumes that Jesus must have believed everything that other Jewish apocalyptic thinkers of the time believed (i.e. the coming kingdom of God would be for the living on earth), even though the only sources we have suggest he believed in the resurrection and eternal life after death. Acts of the Apostles also includes an account of Paul being questioned by two different sects of Jewish leaders, the Pharisees and the Sadducees, the former of whom are said to believe in the resurrection and the latter of whom do not, so it's clear that there was already a tradition in Judaism that believed in a life after death which may have provided the context needed to understand Jesus' teachings and beliefs about the coming kingdom of God.

It’s actually quite sad because this man is not understanding the sacrifice of the lamb... who later became JESUS. GOD the FATHER, chose 2B born as a man specifically to forgive our sins, and those who decide to bring their sins (like they did in Old Testament) and place their sins upon Jesus Christ the very last & final Lamb (New Testament), & giving all their sins over to JESUS, asking HIM for HIS grace & mercy in order to receive HIS forgiveness and salvation. When we REALLY FACE GOD ( can be at home laying in bed even. It doesn’t matter where you are but what matters is that you mean this from bottom of your heart... wanting to know that GOD (FATHER, SON, & HOLY SPIRIT) really is real... and therefore ‘one’ is choosing to follow Jesus. There is a conscious decision we make and having a heart to heart talk with GOD HIMSELF is when a person gets saved/born again. It IS NOT just the word we say to JESUS, it is actually a truth we face at the very deepest level of our humanness; a yearning to meet GOD. // These people that speak with Ray at the beach are hearing Biblical reality... JESUS SAID WE MUST BE BORN AGAIN. Being born again is an actual life decision and event that happens to us. SIR, you are right JESUS gift of salvation by way of HIS cross is free to all! HE died for Everyman & woman’s sin. Pls know that if somebody gives you a beautifully wrapped gift, but you NEVER choose to open it, you are actually missing out on the gift itself, wouldn’t you agree? Jesus stated, YOU ‘MUST’ BE BORN AGAIN TO ENTER THE KINGDOM OF GOD... and that THE ROAD IS A NARROW ROAD... Sadly there are people who CHOOSE not to follow the narrow road & turn themselves over to Jesus Christ. This is when our sins become washed away... and they are covered by Christ blood sacrifice. It is when we do this, and and oh so humbly & honestly mean it... THIS IS WHEN JESUS FORGIVES OUR SIN. Yes the gift of salvation IS FREE, but we must open the gift. And as I said from bottom of our spirit and heart. If you’ve ever seen a child cry because they were so sorry for the wrong they did~ surely you have! Well this is how we must come to JESUS... sorrowfully realizing we NEED HIS FORGIVENESS. We simply must be sincere when we do, and then the ribbon WILL miraculously untie itself from the box, the paper will be torn, and the most beautiful miraculous gift is revealed to us. I remember the day I was born again, I went to post office watching all the people ahead of and behind me in line, wondering if any of them knew what I now knew! What a wonderful day that was... and JESUS HOLY SPIRIT HAS NEVER LEFT ME. HE walks with me every day and moment.YOU SIR ARE WONDERFUL... YOU ARE SEEKING GOD... I guarantee there is MORE to HIM. Many people read the Bible. Some read it without understanding because they do not have the Holy Spirit. The Bible cannot be read like any other book. It is unique and we first have to give God permission to remove the scales from our eyes, the veil on our faces and the callous off our hearts and then the truth that has always been so plainly set before us, only then, shall it set us free. The fear of The Lord is the beginning of wisdom. The disciples died for their truth and their faith, they died gruesome deaths for sharing their first hand accounts with The Lord. Who do you know that would die for a lie? The discrepancies are because we are all human, we share our experiences from our view point however, the stories as you call them have the same distinct message and when you focus on the miracles that actually took place, the peripheral things (discrepancies) fades into the overwhelming truth. Now if everyone had the exact same account, you would've said that they got together and planned their stories, no? William Lane Craig is an American analytic philosopher, Christian apologist, author and Wesleyan theologian who upholds the view of Molinism and neo-Apollinarianism. That’s a common misunderstanding. The Council of Nicaea in 325 did not create a canon. It mainly focused on doctrine related to the nature of the Trinity. It rejected an explanation of the nature of Christ advanced by Arius of Alexandria that the Son was not eternal or of one nature with God. The New Testament was first anthologized when Athanasius listed those books in a 367 letter. Even then there was no consensus and many other texts continued to be used as scripture. The closet thing to an official church vote on the canon didn’t happen until the Council of Trent that began in 1545 to reaffirm inspiration of the Deuterocanonical books which were being questioned by the Lutherans.

On the other hand, Western scholars are completely accepting of oral history for every other religion and culture in history, but when it comes to Christianity they develop the most myopic pedantry - why is that?
