What Do I think of Governor Kristi Noem DOG KILLER

If you brag about killing a dog in your book and expect people to believe you have what it takes to get the job done, I've got news for you - YOU DON'T!
This is not a political statement, it's a statement of humanity. Dogs are sentient beings and deserve respect. For Governor Kristi Noem to brag about killing her dog because it killed some chickens, after she tried training it with an e-collar is WRONG. I have dealt with aggressive dogs and the first thing she should do to get the job done is hire a professional trainer or two to see if she's right or wrong. THEN, if you have to put the dog down, do it respectfully at a veterinarians office. And, DON'T brag about it like you're GREAT!

I grew up in a farm in Spain, came across dogs that wanted to eat the chickens all the time... You don't shoot the dog, you either train it, find it a different job away from the chickens, or move him to a different spot in the farm. Not to mention that no one ever keeps their hunting dogs loose and roaming around... That's setting them up for failure. Some people don't understand how farm animals operate and it leads to this kind of stuff. Shameful.

Dogs are a huge help in a farm, they do a lot of work, they require a lot of time and money spent, and in many cases the farm wouldn't operate without them. The trouble is that Noem apparently had NO knowledge of training a young hunting dog with a natural strong prey drive! There was absolutely NO reason for her to shot and kill a perfectly healthy normal wire haired Pointer 14 month old puppy, yes I said puppy because large breed dogs mature slower than small dogs and are still pups at that age and they won’t reach full maturity until around 3 years old. She not only killed her dog Cricket, she also shot and killed a goat she claimed was “mean” and she didn’t like him so she shot him and wounded him, having to shot it again to finish him off, so much for her shooting skills! I used to like Noem but could care less about her now because of what she did, I can’t stand animal abusers or children abusers! She dug herself a very deep hole that she can’t climb out of now by divulging what she did, she is now trying to do damage control but this will never go away and I believe that her political aspirations flew out the window, her Goose is cooked!

I'm a farmer. I also do dog rescue. I also train the dogs I rescue, bird dogs. I have had to put one dog down in 20 years and it was after tremendous effort to train and rehabilitate the dog. We did it humanely through euthanasia. I can't imagine letting any bird dog breed anywhere near chickens or any kind of poultry, bunnies or other small game. It shows she is ignorant as well as without empathy or human emotion. This was a dog loved by her children. She didn't care. She enjoyed herself. Very scary person, Kristi Noem.

I just went through a troubling incident. My Aussie we rescued and had for 8 months recently attacked my teenage daughter. Admittedly, my daughter will lash out at times and be angry and loud, just being a teenage girl and having "hissy fits" nothing crazy IMO. Anyway, our dog that has gone through 2 courses of obedience training and one course of agility attacked her recently, we exhausted every resource we could use to try and find her a good home while being transparent on the reason we were looking for her to have a new home. Long story short we were unable to find her new owners that are able to give her what she needs, but fortunatley the family we got her from were able to take her home with her sister and mother. It really sucks to have to give up on an animal but shooting our girl in the head even after being aggressive with my daughter is not the right solution. I am thankful that we were able to rehome our pup back with her family and not have to put her down which was recomended to us by damn near every outlet we reached out to.

This event has to rank "up there" with the most sickening and disturbing things I've heard in a very long time. It didn't bother her because she's an avid hunter (i.e., see her pose with the dead elk or the campaign commercials of her shooting pheasants). She is comfortable with causing animal death. She celebrates it. She didn't value her dog whatsoever. We travel to the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center to have our dog treated by their veterinarians, due to a medical problem that she has. As you walk up and down their hallways, you see huge paintings of dogs. The U of M either had the paintings put up with a story about that particular dog, and its disease, and how it was saved. Or an owner gave the UMN a big portrait of their dog, with an inscription telling them "Thank You". They immortalized their dog. I say to myself, "That dog was loved a lot". All of these stories about dogs, as you walk down their hallways. And what did Kristi Noem do for her 14 month old puppy, who had its whole life in front of it ... many more years. She took it to the gravel pit , shot it in the head, and boasts about her qualities.

Thanks Robert. I was stunned when I heard it. When I raced sleddogs there was a rumor that mushers killed dogs that couldn't make their team. I know now that it is not a practice in the upper or lower eshalon of mushers. I was in the lower group. 😁 I have had to put dogs down. It sucks. But I have never met a person worth knowing who had the attitude of ms Norm. I appreciate your honesty. I have my current dog because he couldn't be handled. He's sleeping ony feet right now. There are days I wonder whether it's worth the work. His prey drive is off the chart. He would kill my chickens. So, I don't allow him near them. I'm rambling, but I don't know what's wrong with people...

Thank you for this commentary, Robert. Dog lovers from both political camps are horrified. Noem is now a punchline and laughingstock. She took her career to the gravel pit. And each time she tries to defend her cruelty, the story changes: from ruining a hunt, to killing chickens to being a threat to her children. Of the latter, why didn't she say so from the get-go? Because now she's backpedaling from her "tough girl" story to rationalizing her killing rage. I understand a working crew witnessed this horror of killing a puppy and a goat. An utter disgrace. Yes, "No Going Back," from this.

Definitely no justification she could have tried good trainers, seems like she belongs to a class where one could afford best of the best trainers, could have given him to some other more experienced hunter to handle and train… Could have hired a behaviorist…and many other options….. This skill is sometimes called “Problem Solving” someone has to tell her that, which is a prerequisite for Decision Making :)

Right. Nothing to do with politics - everything to do with being irresponsible and cruel. A zero works for me. My Golden Retriever was so full of energy and antics when he was 14 months old. He’s my Novice A dog. A lot of it had to do with me being clueless, but I kept working with him and at 4.5 years old he’s a wonderful family member, companion, and competitor. It took a lot of patience and work. I can’t wrap my head around what she did to this poor dog.

Robert, I thought the same thing when she said it couldn't be trained. There are trainers world wide that could've helped her. Most likely, she has little to no training skills. For her to boast about killing the pup like it was some rite of passage, sickens me and shows her lack of empathy. Just throwing this out there..she could've also rehomed the dog. SMH!!
