i SWEAR i was the only person down here in baton rouge, louisiana blasting the "me. i am mariah… the elusive chanteuse" album [the most mariah-esque name ever lol] in summer 2014, trying to get any & everyone who got in my car to hear it. 'supernatural' is IT. 'make it look good', 'you're mine (eternal)', 'supernatural', & 'meteorite' it was an album FULL of bops! i drug 'memoirs' into the GROUND in 2009-10, like mariah's music is and has almost always been a constant soundtrack in my life since i first heard a neighborhood girl sing 'hero' on the corner one day in the mid 90's lol.

I have been with MC from day 1. I have seen her live multiple times. It's sad to see her voice deteriorate over the years. Now at best, she is a studio artist. Live MC is not pleasing on the ear anymore tbh. Notwithstanding that her discography is incredible. She has recorded some of the best vocals ever recorded in history. She was and always will be one of one. Her musicality is out of this stratosphere. There will never be another MC.

I went to the Caution Tour - let’s agree to disagree. She will always be THAT GURLLLLL but she is NOT CURRENTLY …. THAT GURLL. Those that get it get it - respectfully ofc lol. Having said that her musicality still remains out of this world. There will never be a singer that out does what she has accomplished. Her voice is no longer healthy but she still sh!ts on most contemporary artist Caution was an incredible album!!!!

On good days... her tone sounds the same to me in her low and mid sometimes her high notes too if shes well rested... its her studio vocals in her newer albums that sound different to me... I think she mixes more in studio or the editing of the audio is different but live vocals still sound like her.

I honestly hate a lot of the backhanded compliments. The way "FANS" talk about her is always ruthless. Especially about her music and voice. But her music has only progressively got better and better because she keeps learning and growing and adpating. What I appreciate about her is she doesnt ONLY want to be tied to one thing but a bunch of things because her prowess is just that all-encompassing.

Thanks for all the Mariah content. I'm in my mid to late thirties, so I grew up with Mariah's discovery. I remember how people thought her voice was manipulated in the studio when she debuted because of the whole Milly Vanilli fiasco, I remember her glory days during Muisc Box/Daydream, I remember the blogs/people turning on her after Butterfly, and I remember how Tommy was out to destroy her career and reputation during Glitter. Some people turned on her because she went RnB or started acting (N********) as Sandra Bland put it. While other's turned on her because they aligned with Tommy or because they thought she was using the hip hop community. I don't know where that sentiment got started, but I have seen some people claim. Which is funny because she orchestrated bring Jay-Z into Def Jam, after Roc-a-fella fell apart. I still remember how people states that she lost her voice during the Butterfly era because her voice became raspier. To me, her voice sounded the best during Butterfly because the additional rasp added another layer to her voice and the songs on that album sounded even more emotional. A few years ago, I found out that she had recorded lead the way when she was recording Butterfly, which further confirmed my belief. At the end of day, Mariah has had to prove herself since debuted. Whether it's to critics or the public. It's like Mariah has a different standard and the bar is constantly being moved further and further away. She is one of the only artist who critics and the public compare to her prime when talking about her voice. Which is ironic because other artists and producers adore her because she is/was the real deal. It's similar to how people judged/mocked Whitney and MJ before their untimely passing. Couple of videos of people on Mariah. There's so many more, but I don't want to ramble on forever. This is the producer of I Don't Wanna Cry talking about working with Mariah. Watch from .52 seconds - 7:00 minutes. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIbalZ-Pr9-BqtU Beyonce on Mariah's artistry and inspiring her to become a singer. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6abkIadiJ2ArJI LA Reid confirms Mariah recommended Jay. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4itYphtoZd6sKs Leontyne Price on Mariah kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4S2qX55rrOUptk

This was a great video! Her voice has changed, yes, but in general I think people are very quick to label changes in a singer's voice as a decline rather than a transformation. I think she has gotten more creative with her lower register--I looooove her lower register--and for that reason I love Giving Me Life from Caution as much as I love My All from Butterfly.

I'm not a Lamb, but I've also her newer stuff. The album of CAUTION is amazing. Her low register is phenomenal and l feel it is healthier for her, less forced but still virtuosic. The ornamentive singing is wonderful as always. I am of the opinion she is really some kind of Alto. It's incredibly unusual for one to have the faculties of a limber, high soprano but in she likely retained that though practice as an adult. It's not the fact she has this register as remarkable, it's her ability and artistry in it. It's Very challenging to actually make a series of notes in flageolet pleasant and melodic and she devised them herself. She is an incredible belter, usually associated with Mezzos for the big money notes, and if she had a career on Broadway, no doubt she would use that to her advantage. Unlike Julie Andrews who gave up singing altogether with reduced range l am confident Mariah would still stun and dazzle us with nary a high note as contraltos are if God forbid she were to lose the extreme highs. She's no one trick pony.

To say that Mariah whistle register is why her voice has become the state it is today is such an uneducated statement. Singing is more than whistles…. Its a full body sport. Especially at the level she was on in the 90s. Im an opera singer and that explanation was pure garbage. It would been smarter to say she over used her entire voice at the height of her career and that is why is the state she is in now, not reduce her entire career to to a party trick because its not. Im a huge fan of Mariah but im also a vocalist in my own right, im not gonna say she made excellent choices as a young singer, NO SHE OBVIOUSLY DID NOT but her biggest mistake was not learning the whistle register and using it like 10% of the time. Her mistake was not prioritizing vocal health and longevity and just let the label ruin her because she was the cash cow of sony. Mariah story is complicated and people who speak ill of her or misunderstand her usually will say something so shallow about an artist that changed music once she hit that first riff in Vision of Love way back in 1990. The video is very inaccurate to say the least.

I completely agree with this! She's still incredible, especially as a producer and writer. However I have to say that we cannot oversee that she's obviously having minor to maybe even major vocal problems. I think she's still capable of so much and I love her newer work so much! But singing Live seems pretty hard for her amd vocal therapy would definitely do her good. It's never about quality or potential when it comes to Mariah! But I think her current vocal standpoint is limiting in places where she shouldn't have to.

Honestly if nobody has sang or competed and that's how to read music or knows anything about vocal anatomy because you were in the music vocally understand what it's like to be in show business and under pressure nobody should really be talking If you are fan about or vocal struggles or what she should do with her voice nobody has ever had vocal nodules you will never know what it's like to feel your ear nose and throat be disconnected in your registers other than your chest voice Everybody's talking about the things you should do she should sing lower she should not hit the same high note it's her voice she can do as she pleases Nobody knows what it's like to Want to strike a note and It does not come out right and improv it There is a mental and physical disconnect when you have nodules

Apart from Mariah just doing it for me... Yeah there are those rough days but I will still root for her... Plus, when I listened to Mariahs lower register, it is extremely low, so in my opinion, I think she overworked her voice... As she had to sing in her octaves to get those amazing highs... She pushed herself as hard as she could for as long as her voice could last... Even now she is still pushing... She The Queen y'all!

I just think she has always been singing above her range as alto/ tenor. You can see sings in her throat and very very nasal. But most of her notes are falsetto singing.
@eduardoNieves-t4y
@eduardoNieves-t4y 4 ай бұрын
I respectfully disagree, She was never an alto nor was she a tenor, she was always a soprano, no tenor or alto will sound like her nor will they have the ease that she had on her upper range, also she only implements falsetto on her singing when she did breathy voice and it is used for style, she was capable of singing in chest, mix and head voice without leaking air before her voice deteriorated due to her lifestyle choices.
@Valibativecreo
@Valibativecreo 4 ай бұрын
@@eduardoNieves-t4y what ease? She does not even sing in chest resister past the 3rd octave. That is all falsetto-No solid chest register. She is shrill and nasally with no resonance in her 4th octave, not mention no vibrato. She tilts her head back and shakes for a vibrato effect and then it still sounds struggle. I saw her Lovers and Friends in concert and if you say that she was resonant or had any 4th octave fluidly which ievery soprano has you are lying. Better yet you are accusing Mariah of Lying because she confirmed she is an Alto and she clearly is. There is nothing wrong with being an Alto, if anything is shows how creative of an artist Mariah is because she has you in denial when she has told the world what her natural voice is.
@eduardoNieves-t4y
@eduardoNieves-t4y 4 ай бұрын
@@Valibativecreo Correcting someone when they are wrong or confuse about something is not the same as to accuse or to call them a lier. So I'm not acussing mariah of anything if i was, i would have flat out called her a lier and i didn't, so you are wrong about that. Also everything that you just said is regarding her current vocal state, and i was refering to her voice duiring her prime that's why i used the word "was". A true alto lacks the agility, lightness and freedom that mariah had on her upper register. During her prime she was casually belting E F consistently something that is hard and rare for true alto's to do regularly.
@Valibativecreo

@@eduardoNieves-t4y I’m speaking the now, 1990 and beyond and I’m speaking the truth. First off, when Mariah herself revealed her natural voice is Alto, that was in 1994 and isn’t 1994 when you Lambs are constantly commenting how “bright” and “girly”her voice was? The part that you fail to understand because you are laymen and textbook when it comes to voice type analysis she “presents” those qualities, that doesn’t mean it natural! She said she experiments with the top of her voice. You can’t comprehend that as you being textbook. You check off on your laymen list; light voice = soprano girly sound pitch =“aha soprano” You have no context of voice presentations and alternative manipulations. Even though she has confirmed her voice type you are in denial and can’t accept it. But then on the flip side you say she chooses stylistic breathy sounds etc. Yet so skilled and has a professional classical singing mother and has worked with and friends with some of the best trained background vocalist and composers her entire life in person but you think you know more and you think she is lying about her voice. This is an absurd argument you are bringing. What does your pedigree in music qualify you to trump Mariah’s knowledge of her own voice. And lastly, you can’t even know a singer true natural connected range unless you sit one on one with them and run the scales. Mariah’s voice sits on the cusp of 2nd and 3rd octave naturally and has never set or lived on the 4th octave like true sopranos as Jennifer Hudson or Ariana Grande. Both of whom also have the naturally high speaking voices to match their sopranos and both ladies have confirmed they are 1st sopranos. Not Mariah
@Valibativecreo
@Valibativecreo 4 ай бұрын
@@eduardoNieves-t4y again what a your background to even think you can hold a candle to correcting her? What qualifies you to think you no more than her consider she lives and breathes it and birthed out of an professional Opera singer? You are giving narcissist and can’t even comprehend what “prensent” vs natural means. Those E & F notes are true belts that’s manipulated falsetto that you think are true belts. MC former background singer and friend who is alto explained that her “high belts” are falsetto that has been trained. See you are to laymen and can’t only know simple textbook concepts of the voice. Everything is not what it seems.
