Awesome video as always! Would love if yall could make a video about gearboxes (e.g. how the number of gears affect the performance/reliability of the car) and how different suspension setups help with the driving dynamics and comfort of the car. Will be looking forward to more educational videos like this!

I love my Legacy, but if there was one thing that I could change would be the CVT transmission. I can't stand belt driven trannies. They feel like they hesitate in lower crawling gears. Also, AWD to me is a tad overrated for the amount of power reduction that occurs when transferring from the transmission to all four. I rather have awesome rated high performance tires that handle amazing in the rain on a 2 wheel drive front end and gain back that extra punch from the engine when needed than the advantages from having 4 wheel. I hardly go off road. However, the boxer engine is great. A tad pricier than the slanted V in maintenance and repair costs, but really reliable. Common issues with high mileage boxer engines is the gaskets going bad and overheating or viscosity breakdown when the coolant mixes with oil and vice versa. But the newer Subies have much more reliable engines now and last much longer, more so than Porsche.

The thing to realize about most motors is that they usually are designed to solve an engineering difficulty. Only a few are designed to just be very excellent motors.

Thank you for this video, I wish I could agree with you but I own a 2020outback touring with 11k on it and it's been in the shop twice with a main seal leak. The turbo lags so bad that you have to compensate by pressing on the gas to get the car to move. Also, the cvt is horrendous. Whoever decided to mate the boxer engine with a cvt should get fired. The boxer engine should only be used in rear engine setup's but they are much to noisy and unrefined to be anywhere else but in back.

How about including the part of Boxer in Subaru compares to the inline engines of Toyota & Honda in terms of cost of servicing and long term reliability? Malaysians in general do not want to spend unnecessary and unplanned surprises and shockingly money and time for such repairs due to the unrealibility. VW unreliability and engine fiasco comes into mind, thus the ever lasting trust in Toyota and Honda. Looking forward to the comparability of Subaru to Toyota & Honda.

VW is not actually unreliable, just like Toyota's are really reliable. Its a question of technology adoption. Toyota's are perceived to be reliable because they do not make much changes to the tried and tested old technologies of theirs. VW on the other hand has adopted new technologies more rapidly to allow drivers to get better drives and fuel economy from their cars. Who has won the battle? None of them have won and none of them have lost either. In theory VW has won the battle because their cars and now better drivers cars and they have overtaken Toyota in car sales globally. But the battle is not over yet. The next stage where car manufacturers manage the fine balancing act between producing efficient combustion engines and at the same time getting their electric cars to reach higher ranges will be when we see if VW or Toyota will win the battle. Or would it be a Chinese or Korean manufacturer that takes the lead then. Honestly, nobody knows. The next 5 years will be really interesting for the future of the automobile. Lets wait and see ...

I got a 2021 Subaru crosstrek with the 2.5 boxer motor the power is ok but the gas mileage sucks plus the motor is louder than I expected it to be other than that it’s a really cool car looks good too mine is black Cilicia metallic Subaru do a good job on there paint I have owned several new vehicles I must say the quality in the paint job is above most but that gas mileage really depress me I’m only getting around 23 miles per gallon.

Nicholas Choi not cheap to produce and also quite difficult, which is why not many manufacturers make boxer engines. But Porsche and Subaru can manage because after all they've been doing it since they started and it's what makes Subaru popular

apart from 2.5l, subaru boxer engines are weak, they have low torque so driving uphill is a pure nightmare. you allways need momentum and pedal to the floor or you need to downshift to the 2nd gear. At low rpm 150hp impreza feels like driving a normal 75hp car
