Must be nice to be an Oilers fan and seeing your big forwards, and only one of them making north of $10 million, producing when it counts the most. They inspire everyone on the team to play better. Good luck Edmonton in the Finals.

Yes and they want the smallest guy of the 3 to play more physical than the other two. You get one journalist having a post picking Marner as the weak link and the sheep will follow. Willie was mainly getting 3rd line opposition and 3rd pairing d-men.

I’ll believe Marner gets traded when I see it.He has a full NMC and at 10.5 million a season,that’s a big ticket to move.That means limited trade partners if Marner even agrees to a trade.
@fishleaf18
@fishleaf18 5 ай бұрын
If the leafs wanted to move him for value I’m sure they’d be willing to retain 50% for one season, putting marner a hair under 5.5 mil cap hit. After July 1 his salary would be under 1 million too, so very appealing

Why does everyone else retain salary but not Toronto? They will retain some if they want to moe him. They can even bury the money with Jimmy Hoffa and still get to sign who they want to sign. Nobody has focused on JT and Reilly's cap hit. That's over 17M between the two so almost 30M with Marner in the mix. If they can pull it off, get rid of them all. Domi could put up JT numbers if he has the playing time. Marner and Reilly can be replaced.

Marner saying that he will not talk extension until later in the season is fine, he has that right ...but the Leafs need to counter with telling him that they will not be extending him under any circumstances and he is now showcasing his talents as a rental for his future team. The strategy Marner is using here is to subtly threaten the Leafs with walking into free agency for nothing. They must call his bluff. Where losing him for nothing as a UFA is not ideal, continuing with the top heavy cap structure is even worse. If the Leafs employ this strategy, they will end up at the very least with a motivated rental. It could also result in Marner waiving his NMC to become a partner in determining a suitable trade. What the Leafs cannot do is let Marner play contract hardball with them again. He may be a very good regular season player but he is simply too soft to be a major factor in the playoffs.
@FredZiffel-s2o

If the Leafs don't sign him, he will be walking at the end of the year. Players give up extra money to get those no movement clauses unfortunately the teams have to live up to what they agreed to.

@@ML-my8qq I am not sure how your logic works. Did Dubas publicly announce he intended to trade Marner? Dubas left quickly last year. After Dubas left - the Leafs Executives announced they were committed to the Leaf Core 4. My suggestion is that Mitch has a good relationship with Dubas & it looks like Pittsburgh is an interesting opportunity. Mitch has announced his intention to play out his Leafs Contract next year. That is evidence. When I wrote - it looks like Mitch is going to Pittsburgh, that is not written as a certainty. Hope this clarifies. 😀

Hey Mr. Stats 😊 I know u love defending Marner bc of his "50 pts in 57 playoff games" or whatever else gets u off about him. U clearly don't understand what it takes to be successful as a TEAM in this league. Matthews hasn't played with Marner every single year since 2016 or the majority of his career 😂 he played more with nylander (your whipping boy) on his wing! He has his flaws too we all get that but he actually EARNS his 6.9 million in the playoffs unlike your hero mitchy boy. Matthews doesn't need him to score 50+ goals..if u think otherwise than keep showing your amazing hockey knowledge to every leaf vid on KZbin 👏👍

@@chrisbat88 As a fan, I like them all. They are all great players and if any of them leave, they will take playoff eligibility with them. I could care less what any of them make , salary wise. I do believe that Marner is the most important player they have had in the last 7 years but the team needs them all. I have seen a lot of hockey in my 70+ years. And a lot of bad Leaf teams. Why oh why on earth would Marner ever agree to help the Leafs dump him at the expense of his new team? Exactly, that would be a dumb move for him and his new team. The leauge needs to adjust the cap based on the tax base of the team. So the leafs get more space than tampa for example.... therfore the contracts are comparable.
