Thanks for the video! I was recently diagnosed with epilepsy after experiencing focal aware seizures. I think I've had these almost all my life but back then doctors just told me I was experiencing panic attacks. As much as I hate the deja vu, extreme feeling of fear, and weird dream memory flashback stuff I experience during my seizures, I hate the feeling I get afterwards even more. Each time I get a focal aware seizure I get really bad derealization afterwards. I feel like nothing is real and I feel crazy and it can take days to feel normal again.

There are a couple of things you can do after having a seizure. You can: - immediately drink cold water as this will cool your brain and body immediately - if you are still unwell, drink a frappe or something ice blended as this will further relax your body - watch a comedy program to reduce stress - eat a full day meal, it's best advice for you not to miss out your meals - always keep a cold water bottle with you wherever you go, especially if you are driving and get nervous. Avoid: - smoking or anything that affects the brain - being around Chemical factories as the smell can worsen breathing - over stressing - amusement park rides as this can worsen seizures The next time you visit a neurologist, ask for a medicine called lamotrigine or Lamictal as this medication is more effective to reduce seizures Good luck and I hope you stay well

I lose sensitivity in my whole body when it happens and it's terrifying. They can last for hours. When they start, I immediately know my day is screwed. Only the next day I wake up fine, but I go to sleep with a sensation that I might die.

My auras CAN include a headache or migraine, dizziness, flushed face, slurred speech, confusion, deja vu, tremors, biting of my cheeks and/or lips, clenching of my jaw and possible grinding of my teeth, inability to speak clearly, uncontrollable eye movements, shuffling of my feet, random acts that may lead to injury, vulnerability, or dangerous situations, etc. I hope to hear from you again.

A brain hemorrhage at 6 weeks caused me to suffer from brain seizures for most of my childhood. They were usually recognizable by periods of spacing out when I would not be receptive to anything around me. I was on Tegretol until adolescence. Sometime in my 20's, I would occasionally have brief periods where I would lose my memory. (I still recall an incident when I forgot everything, even my own name.) I got married at 29. At 34, just after my second child was born, I had an incident where I lost my memory. My wife and coworkers had no idea what was going on. I went to the ER, where they said I was disoriented, until my memory came back. In the 11 years since then, I have had 5 subsequent incidents of memory loss, two of which actually caused me to black out completely. My wife and I would laugh about the incidents after they happened, but they might be scary to anybody else who didn't know what was going on. It was not until around 2017 when I saw a movie in which somebody described a condition that sounded like what was happening to me, and they called it hysterical amnesia. My most recent incident in November of 2022 caused me to black out at work for about 8 hours. My wife assumed that the amnesia would not last long, but eventually, she and my boss realized that the best thing to do was to get me to the hospital. The doctor thought I might be having a stroke, and my wife tried to convince him that this was a common occurrence. A couple weeks later, I was describing the incident to somebody, who told me it sounds like seizure. Since I had had seizures as a child, I decided to explore this. I had an EEG done a few weeks ago. The following week, my neurologist called and said the "EEG was abnormal" and prescribed seizure medication. This past Thursday, I met my neurologist, who said I have complex partial seizures in my left temporal lobe. I have been through a lonely journey the past couple of decades without even realizing it, and I have felt a wave a relief the last few days with this ultimate diagnosis. After my incident in November, I got a medical bracelet that said "susceptible to hysterical amnesia." I have now ordered a new one with "complex partial seizures" on it so that people will be aware if anything happens in the future.

I recently got diagnosed and am getting treatment for this now. Just got on meds and had an MRI scan. If you think you have this - pls go to your doctor - a neurologist- just knowing that you have is the best first step ever. Thank you to your page and all the comments discussing exactly what I’ve felt , the aura, the dissociation, the dream / memory blurs, the feelings of FEAR and uneasiness afterwards - for no explainable reason ! It makes me sad so many other people have to deal with this though 😭😭😭😭

I also have partial/complex partial seizures. Most of the time nobody knows that I am having one. I can still drive when I'm only having partial seizures for at least 6months without complex seizures. I"ve only had 6 complex seizures in my life. Started at age 21, now I'm 64. The BIGGEST problem is the memory loss!! Because of my memory loss, I had to stop practicing medicine. Could be worse......still alive!! Exercise, good diet, keep active, get a dog. Don't give up the fight!!!

@@melissaweaver9424 Forgetting is part of the life of people who have epilepsy. It is important to spend joyful time with your family, play games with them, have some sports which your kids can join you with, spend time watching comedy programs more often and having a hobby which keeps you happy. It's really important to eat full day meals. Eat fish meals, dates and drink honey water. If you like plants, just keep a few. Looking at them and taking care of them would be great and would keep you happy. If you have a very busy working schedule or tiring day, drink a frappe or something ice blended to keep your exhaustion better. This is the best advice I can give you for your health to stay better Good luck and I hope you stay well.

My Epileptologist suggest the weirdest seizure I explained to her might be this. I was at work, I remember taking 1 step then my head & whole body felt very tired in the blink of an eye. I went to wash my dishes & kept hearing "Do you know where you're at? What's your name? Are you OK? I stopped, went out to smoke. An outside work told me the ambulance was here & asked Do I know who they came for & I said no. Went back in to work & a coworker asked if I was feeling better? I asked why? He told me I was in the dish room sitting down tying & untying my shoelaces. Police & Ambulance were there. They said I signed a form saying I'm ok. Between that 1 step when I instantly felt tired...an hour & a half passed! Normally I have Gran Mals, they said I didn't this time. But how did all that time pass & the ONLY thing I remember was feeling tired in the blink of an eye. Like everything in that 1 & half hour I did during the seizure, when I became conscious I was still in the same spot I remember. Very scary!💜💜💜

Thanks for this Annie I also suffer from complex partial seizures. I was diagnosed two year's ago with it it was acurring every 6 weeks almost to the day and then moved to every 9 weeks. I sometimes would get the start of one but it would go away again only to come back into a full episode later in the day. I can take them in my sleep or awake and I would stare with figures or images in my head with a overwhelming feeling of be in a state of pressure with difficult breathing and images playing out in my mind. Normally 3 or 4 in 24hrs it's just a horrible feeling. But I'm fully aware of where I am and what I've been doing. They normally last about a minute. Your video has been most helpful, kind regards Melvin

Having 4 partial seizures in a day is definitely horrible. Talk to your doctor about a medication called Lamictal or lamotrigine as this medication is more effective to reduce seizures. After going through a partial seizure, drink cold water immediately as this is the first liquid to reduce the pain. Drink a frappe or a smoothie to further relax your body if you are still unwell. If you are facing difficulty in breathing, drink a lot of cold water. If you are driving or out for a walk, always keep a cold water bottle with you. Good luck and I hope you stay well

Driving with partial seizures and a severe headache with weakness for me is a very big challenge, especially after having one partial seizure. There are ways to get better after having a seizure or to heal a severe headache and weakness. Seizures can be less but overall not go away. You can: - drink cold water immediately if you are stable enough after having a seizure. For your case, someone should help you with that - if you are still unwell throughout the day, drink a frappe or something ice blended as this will cool your brain and body - watch a comedy program - eat a full day's meal, it's very important not to miss any meals - always keep a cold water bottle with you wherever you go especially when going out for a walk - eat fish meals and eat greenery vegetables Avoid: - smoking or anything that affects the brain and body - being around chemical factories as the smell can worsen breathing - very bright lights - doing work when you have weakness, Take a small break Talk to your neurologist about a medication called Lamictal or lamotrigine as this medication is more effective to reduce seizures. How I can describe it is it felt like my hearing was super strong and sensitive and thoughts in my head repeated loudly and I'd get vertigo type feeling dizziness with eyes closed and laying down. 2 to 3 seizures a month is terrible. Which medication are you using for your seizures ? I have partial seizures and having 2 in a month is too much and can be getting worse if proper medical treatment is not done. Having none or only 1 to 2 partial seizures should be partial seizures means that the medication is good. I to suffer from Complex Partial Seizures, i know that i start to fidget and even make some involuntary movements at times, during seriously intense ones I've gotten up and paced around the room though not making the sort of conscious decision to do so. I am physically and emotionally drained after each one and it can take a few days for my head to right itself again, though to be honest I find that the worst part of the entire process for me is the seizure itself. During every seizure I have i am completely overcome by a sense of terror, horror and unease, other than only one time i am never able to remember the thoughts I am thinking during the episode but i can vividly remember the feelings i experience during them. Its terrible as I'm sure most who have the condition know as in that period you don't feel like you're in control of your brain or mind, the first one i had i thought i was about have psychotic break. The only ever thought I've been able to remember from one of these seizures was as one was starting to ramp up and i could feeli it coming on which i suppose was in the aura stage and i thought to myself "shit I'm going to have to go back to the neurologist" but then my next thought was "no i wont go back to the neurologist, I'll just eat myself". so based on that what i can kinda ascertain is that the thoughts are completely nonsensical and perhaps maybe because of that they might be quite frightening, but that was the only thought i have ever been able to remember, after that thought the seizure kicked into high gear and i don't remember any other thought i had from it. though I do remember that specific one being a particularly intense one and as i was starting to come out of it, i started feeling and overwhelming feeling of embarrassment at what i had just been thinking to the point where i felt so ashamed with myself that I wasn't going to even tell anyone that i had just had that seizure. Though as I came out of it more the the thoughts disappeared as they always do and with them went the embarrassment as i could no longer remember what I had been thinking about. But yeah for me the Seizures themselves are by far the worst part because its almost like im not there anymore but im also overcome by terror at the same time

I know that my seizure what I call "blank " is coming bcz the things in front of me appear more larger, clearer and brighter ..., and I try to fight it with all my will but if it's meant to happen it will It's happened so many times in college, home.. The worst part is me not be able to remember what happened or what was I doing ,where am I after the seizure ends and it's the worst thing ever.. I once went to give an exam and 10 mins ago I literally had one and forgot why did I come here(to my college) today.. I remember sitting at a particular seat and then how did I go to another one I didn't know, and it feels so sad and I feel so embarrassed and guilty about how people around me would see acting like that because I don't even remember what I was doing during my seizure, and days before I see a memory from my childhood, I don't even recall it properly, just haze but it repetitively comes to my head before an episode, It all started in 2019, I probably wouldn't even have gotten to know hadn't I have a Grand mal 2 years later the partial ones and finally had to go to a doctor, though my eegs and MRI are all normal, they wanted a video eeg as well...still have to do it So thankful that you shared this I felt I am not alone and I feel so sorry you have to go through this because for me it's one of the most horrible things i can ever imagine....

My complex partial seizures have changed in that i don't looses awareness but my right arm still goes over my head and i fumble with my hair. I have spoken to my neurologist who says i may be experiencing non epileptic seizures. I asked to be reassesed and for my original diagnosis be confirmed but he simply said no. He has just thrown a spanner in the works as i don't know if i should be taking all the meds i have been taking for years. Can't get a second opinion and can't afford to go private to get some answers. Very frustrated ! Has anybody else had a similar experience with the change in their seizures?

I have simple and mostly complex partial seizures, am now 38 but when it started mid 90s when i was 10, id have TC seizures that literally came out of the blue. Mostly while asleep during the night, only every now and then during the day. Was ok through most of my 20s even after stopping meds. Returned when i was almost 30. This time around though amd neurologist have told me its my left temporal lobe where my seizures start. My wife managed to get one or two on video, for the consultant i was under at my local hospital who last year has referred me to Neurological Hospital in London where im atm going through the process of evaluation for surgery. Theyve told me that a Vagus Nerve Stimulator or Deep Brain Stimulator are 2 methods that could be used if it came to it, but the consultant im being looked after by has told me her preferred route is going to be a partial lobectomy and brain tissue removal if they can locate the starting point of the seizures and it not being too large an area. Have had a couple of the tests, and tbh feel bloody frightened of the outcome of what this might be😕

I have undiagnosed focal aware seizures... But I'm on a seizure med. I keep explaining to my doctor that i have these "episodes" where I literally will stop mid sentence... not be able to remember what I was talking about, I lip smack, everything around me gets darker, I feel like I'm pulled from my body as well. I USUALLY get a migraine with it though. I've tried and I've tried to get my doctor to send me to a neurologist but she won't. No migraine meds worked. I've only ever had one "tv" seizure. It was a few weeks after a really bad head injury. My leg started twitching, then my arm, and then my entire body started spazzing out. I went to the ER and what did they tell me? Migraine. Just a migraine. My doctor put my on a seizure medication tho... and so far I've barely had ANY symptoms of ANYTHING. For the first time in two years... I have some relief. The only thing I'm worried about is if I get an EEG and it doesn't show any seizures because of the meds I'm on...?

I'm not a doctor, but I'd had these since as far back as I can remember (33 now), and recently suffered two fairly close-together Grand Mal Seizures, known today as "Tonic Clonic".. following a period of exhaustion from overtraining and under-sleeping. The first occurred at work, and the second, about 2 months later, occurred while driving, resulting in my totaling my car. I only comment to share a warning, that if you have these partial seizures, you are probably susceptible to having them 'graduate' to full TC seizures and would be well-advised to make sure you aren't over-extending yourself, and getting adequate rest and downtime. Sleep apnea: The morning of my second seizure I woke up after nearly choking in my sleep, and knew just prior to having the seizure that I wasn't feeling right, feeling dizzy almost, and that my brain was likely oxygen deprived. I was driving back home in a neighborhood, having just ran to the drug store to get some Iron supplements to hopefully help increase oxygen in my blood, when the seizure hit. Luckily no one was hurt, other than a mild concussion I also suffered as a result. But I am now disallowed from driving for 6 months. Vitamin B6: Here in the states, our food doesn't have adequate vitamin content due to over-farming/soil depletion. In particular most of us are deficient in B6. Supplementing with just B6 has been proven to totally rid some epileptic children of their seizures altogether, without the use of any anti-seizure medication. So I've begun supplementing with B6, just as an additional safegaurd against any new seizures.

Keep a cold water bottle with you wherever you go as this is the first liquid to reduce the seizure pain. Eat vegetable and fish meals as these provide good nutrition. If you have weakness after having a partial seizures, drink a frappe or smoothie to relax your body. Avoid smoking or anything that affects the brain. Talk to your doctor about a medicine called lamotrigine or Lamictal as this medication is more effective to reduce seizures. Good luck

I suffer from temporal focal impaired awareness seizures also. I have seen videos of myself and it's unnerving because I had absolutely no recollection of it. Even my mom, who was a nurse for 47 years, didn't recognize it - she thought I was just ignoring her and being a dick when it started. After the diagnosis she had that clarity when suddenly she could see it wasn't me being rude, just having a seizure. She felt awful for not catching it, but I didn't know it was happening until I apparently had one on a bus and didn't know that I missed my stop and in my postictal confusion got off a bus and was hit by another bus at a transit center.

I began having these types of seizures unknowingly while driving home from work (including a 15 mile stretch on the freeway). They almost always happened on my way home from work. The episodes started when my therapy dog was getting very old and we were discussing his end of life. He was my world, closest to a child my husband and I could achieve after years of miscarriages. It was hard to go home and watch him lay in a corner and shy away from me when I tried to show affection. My neurologist later told me that they are most likely triggered by stress. And then the day we discovered there was a real issue, and not just "spacing out"... I had an episode as I was getting out of my car at home after work. I leaned to look at the side of my truck and then I was in and out of awareness for about 15 minutes. I bashed my brow open and blood was everywhere when my hubby found me with a couple of neighbors trying to help me. Its amazing how much blood can spill from a head wound. I apparently was saying I just needed to clean up, tried to argue and push past my hubby, was angry that they called an ambulance. He said it scared him to see me act like a totally different person. When the ambulance arrived they were baffled as to what could be going on but took me in due to my cut and confusion. By the time we got around the block, I was back to full awareness. My Dr referred me to a neurologist who confirmed (w/ EKG) complex partial seizures. I started to remember little bits and pieces over the next few weeks. I remembered feeling myself falling on my face but couldn't do anything to stop it. I remembered trying to tell everyone that it was just a little cut and they were overreacting. It was most frightening to learn that I had been driving during most of my seizures. I am thankful I never caused an accident. The neurologist told me that basically I had been driving so long my brain still knew what to do. I wish someone could have recorded me so I could see what it looks like. I do wonder.. has anyone else has had an issue with things tasting awful after their episodes? It was happening to me for about 8 months. I lost 80 lbs because I couldn't eat anything.

I started having them my senior year of High school. That's why I never got my drivers license, had any children or went away to college😢. Was too scared to do any of those things. Had plenty of doctors state they couldn't find anything in my EKG, but friends and family started taping me. I found out a few years ago I have them on both sides of the brain. Therefore, never found out what triggers them (had them while having fun and while angry😮). Saw a Neurologist and now seeing a Specialist who are both helpful.

There are a couple of things you can do after having a partial seizure and whoever is an epilepsy person. Avoid: - smoking or anything that affects the brain - being around Chemical factories as the smell can worsen breathing - over stressing - amusement park rides as this can worsen seizures The next time you visit a neurologist, ask for a medicine called lamotrigine or Lamictal as this medication is more effective to reduce seizures For those who get unconscious, they should try to drink water when they are conscious and well. The above which I wrote can really be helpful. Good luck and I hope you stay well

I can still converse when it's happening but it just makes me feel really foggy and not quite with it. It never last long but I'll often lay down until it passes . Is this similar to yall who have been diagnosed experience?

Hi ,I've had seizures with impaired awareness for over 10 years now .Exactly as in the video ,sitting to the edge of a chair ,5 times in 1hour ,wandering round in circles ,blinking when looking at the camera ,not able to communicate .I have them in clusters for a total of 36 hours ,every week .Not controlled by meds sadly .I've not been able to drive for 12 years now .I can't risk the lives of others or myself as mine are so frequent .My job involved travelling out to schools from a base .Family & colleagues helped enormously. On a few occasions I went to work when I was on a downward slide - wasn't able to explain my episodes to a new parent ,who then complained saying I didn't know what I was talking about .!! Due to the Equality act work had to make ' reasonable adjustments 'but they didn't fully understand - they sent me to an out lying clinic where I was ' lone working ',despite the protestations of an excellent Human Resources consultant . I hope you get the chance to explain this to your head of dept) boss .Good luck ,we need to raise awareness of these non - convulsive episodes

Personal question, did you show that video to your Dr as evidence? This type of seizure is very hard to diagnose without evidence, luckily my friend witnessed me having one mid conversation with her. She had to speak to the specialist and only then was he able to confirm my diagnosis. The scans show nothing unless there’s damage to the brain that may cause seizures. Or,you happen to have one during the scan which is not very likely in some cases. Also I feel nothing afterwords apart from some mild confusion that something had just happened

Yesterday after having another what I call 'episode' I went and saw a different GP. By the time I got there I was 98% better. But after listening to me he said I might have focal seizures. I can tell it’s going to happen as a get a weird feeling first, my breathing becomes heavy and hands start to shake, and just feel I’m not me, my legs don’t work properly, and some times I get the complete body shakes, mouth goes bone dry and apparently I smack my lips together and also tap. My wife say ‘s my face changes and it’s as if I’ve gone away somewhere. I can hear everything going on but I don’t care. I want to speak but cant and it’s like an out of body experience as if it’s not me. I now have fits of crying after as it makes me feel very emotional for some reason and exhausted. Just awaiting now a neurology appointment, but after reading about it today and seeing some videos I’m sure that’s what I have, and in some ways I’m glad as it was really getting me down not knowing what was going on. But I totally get it, and Im shouting at your video 'Yes I know thats Me that's me'! But why on earth has it taken 3yrs after already told by neurologist that im fine.

I Believe my fiancee suffers from complex partial seizures with awareness. However, it has been a struggle to get her to accept it. She does not believe anything is wrong with her. I did eventually get her to go to a neurologist after she fell over when she was having a seizure and hit her head on the ground. She doesn't remember anything. Her symptoms are different to most. I am not sure how long they last, either one seizure will last hours or she has a million tiny ones for hours. However, I can easily tell when they start happening and the symtomps get worse over the hours of the day. She starts with a slight personality change and it then her speech patterns change and she starts to sway when she stands. Her ability to balance because very poor. Her gait changes, and how she moves her body changes. She gets this glazed look in her eyes, so it seems like she is not there. She is aware but her ability to make decisions and think rationally get ever more reduced. If it becomes sever she will end up not being able to speak and will just look at you if you talk to her. She will eventually just fall asleep. What I describe will un fold over the whole day and then the next day it will be repeated. This may go on for weeks. Then suddenly she is fine for 2 or weeks or so and then the whole process starts again. I believe something at home triggers it because if she goes to work, she returns fine in the evening, but then suddenly starts to show symptoms again. As mentioned she did go see a neuro and also had a EEG done, but it came back negative. It just so happened that the week she went she had no seizures. I was devasted. One of the only chances I had to prove that something was wrong did not pan out. I am at a loss now. I don't know what to do. Her seizures pose a risk to her and it is exhausting for me to deal with and most of the time it is I am with someone else and I have to take care of her like she is a child.

Hopefully, next day, your fiance will be better. Talk to her neurologist and explain the symptoms you see her having, even if she doesn't have any kind of seizures that day. Talk to another specialist and ask them to get an EEG done for her. Ask them to prescribe a medication called lamotrigine or Lamictal as this medication reduces seizures. She said that the Carnivore diet has stopped her seizures for the 1st time in 35yrs. I stopped medication in 2012 years for seizures which started in 2005 after a blow to the head through DV. I have suffered monthly CPS since 2005 which I normally get around the end of each month, l have anywhere from around 2 - 4 monthly or around 21 to 22 per year, spaced out over a few days which was around the time I had my hormonal change, I am now 61. I have been on the Ketovore diet for 3 months which has helped cut back on the seizures but I have lost too much weight & my hair has been falling out. Has anyone had focal seizures that have not shown up on a hour EEG or MRI? I am scheduled for a week long EEG to be started sometime this coming week. I feel like I have episodes often especially when I am stressed. Today so far has been a bad day. I have had crying episodes, dizziness, horrible headache, feeling of wanting to pass out numerous times. My neurologist put me on Keppra 750 mgs every 12 hrs before any tests were done because I have a history of childhood epilepsy. 2 days ago, he increased the dosage to 1000 mgs every 12 hrs. He also stated that this may be psychogenic seizures instead of epileptic seizures but will not know for sure until the 5 day EEG is done. Whatever they are, i have them often, sometimes back to back and they wipe me out. Fortunately, I have been aware for most of them. I've only had a few where it feels like I am aware but unable to answer and everything is garbled.

Make sure you drink plenty of water. Talk to your doctor about a medicine called lamotrigine or Lamictal as this medication is more effective to reduce seizures. In all these years I've never identified mine ,at times I feel nauseous but mine come in clusters .It's hard to tell what's an aura & what is ' post-ictal ' confusion ( following a seizure ):,,as they all blur into 1 ,lasting 36 yours every week

My aura which to me was like a warning a seizure was approaching always felt like I was starting to float up into the clouds, then I could not understand words if people were talking or the radio was on. If I was driving it gave me time to pull off the road until my head was back to normal but those were the early days. Once I was started on medication the meds took the aura away so I got no more warnings, just a drop to the grown seizure or staring spell.

@@user-ze8jw6xh6q In my case, nothing. I am on two very strong medications and I still have occasional blackouts 😞
