What's your caffeinated beverage of choice? How many cups? Me? I used to be a coffee drinker but switched to tea when i initiated Intermittent Fasting since i don't enjoy coffee without creamer. But now i truly look forward to my 2 cups of plain Earl Gray in the mornings!

When my brother was in his early 20's we found out he had a heart issue. Every doctor he saw didn't take his symptoms seriously until they found out he didn't drink any caffeine. He was able to get evaluated and scheduled for surgery in 2-4 weeks where it took most people 6 months to a couple years to get diagnosed and scheduled for surgery. Not drinking coffee literally saved his life. He later became a pharmacist and he once told me that the list of side effects was so bad that if caffeine were discovered today that the FDA would not approve it. It's only "ok" because it's popular and so many people are dependent. That's messed up

You all might think I'm crazy or a liar, but I have been off coffee for 6 days now, and I feel more awake, more energetic, and it's hard to explain but I just think better. I'm more objective.

I've had my morning Joe every day for years and years. I love the smell of a good cup of coffee in the morning. I've consumed my coffee when the studies said it was not good for me and then, mysteriously, the studies say it's okay for me. Maybe even healthy! I wonder if the Tea industry or the Power Drink industry put these studies out? Most importantly I loved the video! Very informative and well thought out. The takeaway for me was moderation! In most things in life moderation always wins in the long run. Keep up the great work!

Interesting thought -- i didn't come across any conflict-of-interest studies in my research; i really try to stick to evidence-based reliable info when selecting my sources. The truth is we need more studies. But so far, i don't see a reason why i'd ask many of my patients to stop consuming caffeine -- as long as it's in moderation, just like you stated :) Thank you for watching and for your your kind comments, as always! And i love that coffee morning smell too...

dearest world i used to drink coffee, but it started messing with me a lot. feeling all jangly inside. would wake up every morning at 3am like clockwork. so i decided to try traditional green Tea from japan. i bought a tetsubin from Miya japan. and let me say that i feel a lot better. The tea is nice because it has L-theanine inside, which is an amino acid that has a calming effect. which has a symbiotic effect with the caffeine. smoothing out the effects of the caffeine....highly recommended. i also will take L-theanine supplements in the early morning with the Tea, the focus and clarity is amazing. no more frazzled nerves.

Love hate relationship with coffee. After drinking it for years, I concluded it was giving me brain fog, (hard to focus and wanting to take a nap) This became very annoying and disruptive each day. But I suspect this only happens after the coffee has been opened and exposed to air for sometime. (Maybe a week) When I open fresh beans or grounds, it doesn't seem to goof me up. I suggest buying small quantities of coffee at a time, as you would bread. I've been drinking green and black tea lately, but coffee has more of a caffeine boost.

Majd MD hoping for more healthy tips from you Doc. By the way Doc. Is it safe to apply Polyphasic sleeping? Since I am studying law and working at the same time, I need to make way for my law studies. Having 9 hours of work, it literally cover up almost half of my 24 hours. I don’t have any other choice but to lessen my sleeping hours for review and reading period. Law study really requires long period of readings, memorizations, analyzations, and research. I don’t know what to do whether to give up my work or not. I usually drink coffee for me to keep up everyday.
@MajdMD4 жыл бұрын
@@aldeesamson9448 There's not a lot of research on polyphasic sleep patterns. But i'd be reluctant to say it is "healthy." Do you feel refreshed throughout your wake hours? That is always a key question when determining how much sleep each person needs. But boy, i can relate -- reminds me of my med school and residency days!
@aldeesamson94484 жыл бұрын
Majd MD I don’t know Doc. I might still adjusting since I started a few days ago. Anyway, I would really love to hear more of it especially about your med school experiences. I might get some tips out of it. If it is okay for you Doc. I’ll message you in an email? :)

safaa azeem We don’t have enough research - some studies say it’s safe and others say it’s not. The safest thing to do is to not risk it and cut out caffeine completely.

I drink 2-3 cups every morning, but they are double doubles. Is this ok? I dont eat until after I use the washroom otherwise I get stomach aches. Also I'm wondering if this is dehydrating.
@MajdMD5 жыл бұрын
heaven mcauley Are you referring to espresso doubles? Either way, yes caffeine is a diuretic (makes you pee out water), so it can be dehydrating. I tell some of my patients that are susceptible to dehydration to drink a cup of water after for every cup of caffeine to at least help combat that if they don’t want to give up the caffeine.
