Durian fruit is notoriously stinky. But what happens if you ferment and distill it into alcohol? With a federal license to make booze, Rex and Briana dive headfirst into weird distillation experiments - that YOU SUGGEST IN THE COMMENTS. (This was a fun detour!) Let us know what you want us to distill next in the comments below!

Let's give $10,000 to charity! We've chosen two worthy causes, and it's time for the Whiskey Tribe to help us make the final decision. Both of these organizations were specifically chosen for their 1) effectiveness 2) innovation 3) highly rated transparency.

🦅 Here's the deal, Tribe. We have a license to make alcohol - which is rare asset amongst KZbin channels. Be sure to hit 👍 on this video if you think a "Will It Distill" series could be a fun way to explore the world of distillation. Rule of thumb, if something has sugar (naturally or added) it’s probably possible to distill it into alcohol. 🥃 ~ Cheers

I have a batch of dragonfruit going right now. If you go there I recommend freezing the fruit and then spooning it from the husk. When you do this you get a little pinkish hue from the husk into the fruit which makes it pretty. If you just spoon from an unfrozen husk you leave a little of the fruit still in the husk. I'm from Singapore and we love the Durian here. You dun hack the fruit like that to open it up. You actually have to aim for the split lines at the base of the fruit and split it from there... Once it splits open, you'd just have to split it further apart section by section. And fresh fruit smells and tastes so much better than the ones you'd probably get after all the air-freight and time spend to deliver it over there. And there are many different subspecies of this fruit as well such as the D24, MSW, Black Gold, etc... Getting the right one with a higher sugar content may yield you a different result.

Durain fruit is actually really good the one you guys had was not ripe yet, when their ripe its like a cross between banana, coconut, and pineapple and if you had distilled a ripe one i think you would've had a great liquor

If you guys can get your hands on them, try out Lingonberries, they are a semi sweet, rather sour small red berry that grow in Sweden! We make them into a jam for our meatballs and theres even rye bread with whole berries in them that are really popular. Would be awesome to see!

Aren't acorn super bitter? That would make a damn bitter product.
@PhyleXTension82
@PhyleXTension82 3 жыл бұрын
@@The_Keeper If you use them as is yes, but you leach the tannins out by soaking them for long periods - the American Indians used to do this to make masa: leach out the tannins then grind the acorn. It can also be done by boiling I believe, but I'm not sure if that would affect its ability to be brewed with.
@caminoprojectUS
@caminoprojectUS 3 жыл бұрын
@@PhyleXTension82 the basic idea is the same. boiling it though removes a step that will be needed (you boil it). boiling breaks down some of the starches and makes them easier for the yeast to attack. it will still need ground though either way. I would posit that the "best?" way would be to boil shelled acorn many times until the water no longer takes on tannins (no color change). roast the nuts to dry them. then mill them coarsely. proceed as per usual. should work ?
@ParadigmUnkn0wn
@ParadigmUnkn0wn 3 жыл бұрын
I think it's definitely possible. Properly prepared acorn flour, which seems a sensible place to start, isn't bitter and has a delightful nutty flavor. Leeching them to make it is an exercise in patience, but that's a key trait required for brewing and distillation anyway.
