Washington State man here: THANK YOU. I LOVE my State. I have lived in Washington most of my life, but I have worked in and lived in Cali, Texas (Texas rules) Ohio, PA, AZ, and a few others. Washington State remain my favorite, and I'd rather live in WA then anywhere else in the world. It has everything I like: rain, trees, mountain, hills, valleys, lakes, large rural sections, national forests, a coast, and relatively relaxed gun laws for a blue state. So I love WA. But our flag makes me cringe. A seal is meant to be on printed pieces of paper where it can be seen and read. Not a flag, where it can't. Further, if you have to state what you're representing on your flag, your representation has failed. And, for that matter, most of the flag is just a solid color. Finally, since these state seal flags aren't distinctive or original, they're boring, and so no one ever sees them, and they inspire no state pride. WA deserves a better flag.

Just a l'il note: The eighth star, the one in the upper-right part of the Alaskan flag, is Polaris, the North Star. It was meant to represent the future state of Alaska, according to the designer, but also to note that Alaska would be the northern-most state of the USA. Here I'll do the Oklahoman flag for you: The Osage shield made of buffalo hide, is covered by two symbols of peace: the Plains-style ceremonial pipe representing Native Americans, and the olive branch representing European Americans. Six golden brown crosses, Native American symbols for stars, are spaced on the shield. The blue field is inspired by the Choctaw flag adopted by the tribe in 1860 and carried though the American civil war. The blue field also represents devotion. The shield surmounted by the calumet and olive branch represents defensive or protective warfare, showing a love of peace by a united people.

the 8th star on the alaskan flag is not for the "future of alaska." that star is actually Polaris (the North Star) which can be located in the sky if you draw an extended line after connecting the two stars that form the top right and bottom right of the dipper. Polaris indicates north.. maybe the alaskans wanted it on there because if you follow the north star, you might end up in alaska. thank you and good night
