I feel that once I pray for God to remove these thing He would do it istantly and there are times when God will. This is where the work of God really really amazes me. I was a slave for this addiction for over 2 decades. First I thought it was because I needed to be with someone with the physical attraction that I desire. Then I thought maybe I had to be with someone that had the same drive. Nope! Lastly I thought maybe I just had to be with someone that gives me the love and affection I might need. Wasn't it either. This addiction messed me up bad and people around me that I truly love was not enough to help me stop. One day I couldn't deal with it anymore and finally had a sincere talk with God. On my knees crying and begging for help. Took God literally just a couple of minutes to send his help. Changed my life. Desire is a lot less but when they do come, immediately and easily stopped. The answer? GOD'S LOVE. Once I learned and realized how much he loves me, no desire out there is more important than my love for him. And it's going to be the same way when or if God puts me in a situation where he uses me to share my heart with someone again. God is amazing.

I am so glad you are overcoming this addition, remember to always put on the armor of God never give up the fight. This addition makes me think of Romans where Paul speaks of the sinful flesh waging ware against the spirit: "So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!". In Timothy he says: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” So here we see a man who truly realized what Jesus really meant when he said "Anyone who wishes to follow me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me" where "If you love me, keep my commands." or "For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments.” Therefore, "...Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.” God bless you. I don't consider it addiction as long as it doesn't stand in the way of you taking care of important matters. Now if you feel the need to do it several times per day then you have a masturbation problem. I consider real addictions to be smoking , alcoholism and gambling. @@carlosmarcial6144 Yes and no, I'll say it's very much implied that it is a sin, but the exact word for word reference of it being a sin is not in the Bible. I will explain more later on in this response as to why it is implied. Think of the sin of masturbation like this: If your parents were upset with you and made a statement for you to never bully Jimmy at school ever again, so you decide that your going to wait until he is not at school to bully him, did you really respect your parents? No, you just worked your way around their words very well knowing that they didn't want you to bully Jimmy at all. This analogy can be applied to masturbation, where we, including myself, have tried to work ourselves around God's word to find the 'path of least resistance' when reading his Word. Where instead we should use all of his Word for "teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness's that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work". Just want you to know that I say all this out of Love and pray that God causes me to TRULY mean that. In that being said this is not written to address you alone, because I don't know your thoughts or what you do in secret, only God does. So I am not accusing you of participating in such actions, but to more so address my own past sins and others past/present and future sins in this specific topic. Jesus Christ makes it very clear that Christianity is more about a relationship with God, also the bible is very clear that Sexual Immorality is a sin, same with lusting after another woman is a sin. When Jesus talks about how lusting after another woman is adultery he is also talking about a much deeper way in which we are to conduct ourselves. I am going to relate this also to when Jesus talks about hating another is murder, these are all aspects of how God is calling us to live in a true relationship with him. As a result, God through Jesus is calling us to strive for higher standards of Godliness, where we are not only judged by our actions but by our desires and thoughts. with all this being said and that we are supposed to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind" and we are to "present [our] bodies a living sacrifice, holy, pleasing to God, which is your reasonable service", I find it very hard to justify that any means of masturbation is acceptable. I read 1 Corinthians 6 where Paul says "Don't be immoral in matters of sex. That is a sin against your own body in a way no other sin is. You surely know that your body is a temple where the Holy Spirit lives. The Spirit is in you and is a gift from God. You are no longer your own. God paid a great price for you. So use your body to honor God" and find it very difficult to justify any actions of maturation. I think we as Christians all got to ask ourselves. Is masturbation honoring God, where "marriage [is] held in honor among all, and the marriage bed [is] undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous"?. Is doing the act of masturbation presenting ourselves as holy and living sacrifices to God by doing his will in following his purpose for sex, stated by Paul: “Each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband. The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife. Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control”? Is masturbation going against what the bible says in 1 Corinthians 7:9 or 1 Corinthians 7:36, where Paul talks about how one should marry instead of burring with passion and/or committing sexual immorality? As a result, it is hard to justify any type or reason for masturbation unless it glorifies God, honors marriage, does not involve any amount of lustful desires and doesn't demonstrate any lack of self-control. I would say that masturbation violates them all. Lastly, I just want to say that a relationship with God doesn't mean by any means that we are given any more of a right to peruse sin, on the contrary, we are judged more strictly because we are filled with the Holy Spirit and are aware of Gods mercy in saving us from our former way of living, so we should have to mindset of rather dying than continuing to sin (just know I am not speaking of complete sinless perfection in Christ, as he is there ready to forgive when we do sin). I know how a lot of human relationships work, where once we think we are close to someone we can take advantage of them. Let me give you an example and I am as guilty of this a anyone else: many times I have neglected the responsibility of my family, where I would abuse my close relationship with them, by not doing certain things to help them out, though I would readily do it for a friend who isn't as close to me because of the selfish reason of not wanting to seem like a bad person or bad Christian. Instead, how I should conduct myself in a Godly manner is to first treat my family right then go and do likewise to the world. If I don't, I may seem to be loving and a good person to the world, but considered a fake to myself and ultimately God. For how can we say we love God but not love others, likewise how can we say we love others but not our own flesh and blood, and how can we say we love others but not God. Therefore, we are to TRULY Love God first, giving up our lives to him just as he gave up his life for us. May God bless you. Ok, I just have to say this first thing. The fact he is EVEN addressing this from the pulpit in such a candid manner is a miracle in my opinion. WOW, it is ABOUT TIME the church got real. Aside from that, his approach was very interesting, I thought, in terms of marriage and it removing the desire to connect. That was very powerful, meets people where they are and he used appropriate humor to put the congregation at ease. Can we all be honest here? It's a thing folks and we ALL know it, if the church does not address it in truth then his flock will look elsewhere. He's working on me now. But this is happening as I finally submit and make God the centre. This has meant getting back to reading and studying his word more deeply than before. There is a serious distinction that I don’t think I’ve ever heard when discussing masturbation and sin. There is a difference between lust and natural sexual desire. Sexual desire in and of itself is not lust. You can be married and still lust after your own wife. This subject is more complex than we give it credit for. Lusting includes themes such as inappropriate, obsessive, and extreme desire for something. There are fine lines involved. Again, all sexual desire is not lust, or there wouldn’t be a distinction.

As a more mature woman who never married, and has issues with physical boundaries, yes, I have and yes, I still do. Not often, it comes in waves, and the only real guilt I have felt is the times I do look upon things I shouldn't, however, seeing people IN the church, and of the church even, living together without marriage, sleeping with this one or that, I kind of feel there is a huge amount of hypocrisy over this. For me, it's more a matter of hormonal balance, and keeping my body in tune with what nature says it needs. I have tried to work on the intimacy issues I have, but maybe God made me that way, who knows. But it is hard, because there is always guilt.

Hi. The thing that helped me give up porn, was hearing about how it affects the church. Even Pastors and elders, wives and Christian husbands are watching porn regularly. I don't know why, maybe God spoke to me, but it set me free. I didn't want to be another statistic. Good luck. Try giving up porn first, and then masturbation down the track a bit. Back when I was a kid there was only magazines and usually my imagination was enough anyway.

Hi friend How are you? I can relate with what you are going through. I was once a pornography addict. I was so tired and fed up yet I couldn't stop myself. I would cry and cry but I couldn't stop. Today I am free and it's two years now I haven't gone back to it. This is how I got delivered. I was a sin living Christain, so FIRSTLY I had to rededicate my life to CHRIST. I realized I couldn't stop by my own strength so I asked the Lord to please help me. I got rid of materials ( movies,books, musics) that would make me want to indulge. I started reading my Bible constantly. I got a shepherd that I can be accountable to. I got rid of friends that would notbhelp me grow, I surrounded myself with brethrens. I started watching Christain movies and books. My brother truthfully I haven't gone back to it since two years now. * The point is allow Jesus to help you and surrounded yourself with godly content and godly people* I Pray the good Lord help and keep you. It's interesting this video was the first on my feed today. Ever since becoming a follower of Jesus, I have always felt that masturbating is a sin. Even the mindless version of it. And that scripture that our bodies are our temple and to flee from sexual immorality are always on my mind. As a single 40 year old man, that, by the grace of God, has been delivered from pornography and sex addiction issues just over 3 years ago when I gave my life to Jesus. I still struggle with the lust of the eye and thoughts from time to time and I LITERALLY just said a prayer about this very thing on the way home from work, in my mind, for God to deliver me from this evil. The urge went away almost immediately. Then boom, here I am 2 hours later seeing a video about this very thing, confirming my personal thoughts and beliefs on this topic. God always finds a way to speak to me even when my ears and mind aren't fully focused on Him. It's hard being a single follower of Christ when sexual immorality has basically become a cornerstone in our USA society. you might want to go with whats in the bible and not just what you've always felt. Masturbation isnt sex and because we are Gods temple, then we need to take care of ourselves. That doesnt mean going through pain and deleting all pleasure. It means not to allow anything to overtake us and become our God. for example, addiction, money, sex, exercise, work, ........ These things arent bad alone, but let them overtake you and they do become bad for you and your relationship with God. But if you "feel" it is a sin, (even if the bible says it is not) then it does become a sin for you. So yes, stay away from it at this point.

I believe the Bible does talk about masturbation. It comes under the heading of purity, holiness and learning to control ones body in away that is honorable. As Christians, the only way to overcome this is by the Spirit. Nobody can live a Christian life by self effort. In some cases it takes an encounter with God or deliverance to be free. Everyone though, will be dragged away and enticed at some stage. It is here that we connect with The Dear Holy Spirit and yield the temptations to Jesus on the Cross. The temptation usually lasts a day, then may not return for a couple of months or several months.

Oftentimes we try get victory over things that we haven't repented about: things that we don't have a godly sorrow for. We can feel guilty without having a godly sorrow for our wrongdoing; for our sin. 2 Corinthians 7:10 10. I went to a Bible College many years ago, and one day our teacher said during the teaching, "Masturbation is a sin!" I don't remember anything she said before or after that statement. Later that week I was in the car going somewhere with her husband, and I happened to mention to him that she had said that masturbation was a sin. He said, You need to pray about it. That is all that was said, period. Unfortunately, I failed to pray about, and it came back to bite me later on. I had never repented over being lustful as a child, and having masturbated in the past, and that left the door open for Satan to do His dirty work. Although I never lusted when I was in Bible College, (for which I am very thankful) later it came back to be a real problem . . . Anyway, years later, when I did finally get around to earnestly praying about masturbation, God simply showed me that He made Adam and Eve. He did not create Adam to lust after himself, or Eve to lust after herself. For that matter, God did not create Adam and Eve to lust after each other but to love one another. As they gave themselves to each other in love, God gave each of them pleasure. God then reminded me that it is more blessed to give than to receive. As we give to give, we are blessed. If we give to get, that is wrong - that is not God's way, that is lust. Love and lust are as different as night and day. What many people call love is simply lust. For instance, you don't "make" love. God gave us sex for two people to become one out of love for each other, not out of sexual desire or sexual drive. Of course, He gave us a desire for sex within the context of a legitimate marriage between male and female as the Bible says. People can get married and still lust after each other, however, after sexual pleasure for themselves, not out of true love for one another. The reason we have guilt about masturbation is because it is wrong. It is something to talk to God about lovingly. He wants us to honour our body as His holy temple. The Bible says that we are to honour God in our body and in our spirit which belong to God. When a person gets married their body doesn't belong to themselves but to their mate - the Bible is very clear about this. Our whole being including sexuality, belongs to God and to our mate. You can be sure that Jesus never lusted after Himself although He was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. He never lusted after anyone else either.🙂 James 1:12 1. I’m really appreciative that this Pastor is opening up the discussion! As a Christian, I don’t want to lead anyone astray by what I’m about to say, but once open up a discussion. First of all, I personally don’t think masturbation in itself is a sin. I haven’t found a lot, if any places in the Bible, that specifically mention sexual fantasies as wrong. While watching porn can be viewed as sinful, I genuinely don’t know about just fantasizing in general. When I was single, my spiritual leader told me to use masturbation as a tool against going into sexual sin. He actually recommended using it as a tool against pornography or premarital sex. In fact, he mentioned the scripture that talks about God providing a way of escape from temptation, and sided masturbation as a reference, stand sexual temptation. I could see this being a point of contention, so I don’t want it to be something that people take out of context or use to sin. That being said, I’ve always wrestled with the thought of, “why would God give me such a high sex drive if he didn’t intend for me to use it?” Lastly, I do want to tackle the issue of pornography. I will be the first to confess that I still deal with it, even as a married man. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried to quit and tried different methods. The only one that I have tried that worked was when I was in an addiction recovery program at my church. Having an accountability partner really helped me, but I’ve since then moved to a different church. During that time I went 10 months without watching porn, and felt genuine freedom, and clarity of thought. But unfortunately, I still struggle with this and continually ask for the Lord’s help.

Thank you for addressing a topic which many pastors bypass. I know it's not God's best and when I have done it, I feel empty inside afterwards. I don't try and "hide" it from God, I admit I have done it, ask for forgiveness and carry on. Having said that, when God created Adam and Eve it was with the intention of them being led by the spirit, through the mind and body (flesh) would follow. We are born with a sin nature into a fallen world. We are bombarded from all angles to satisfy the flesh first, not to live from spirit and control the flesh. (King David was a prime example of how things can go wrong). We are all work in progress, so I think if you do it, admit it to God, carry on and eventually it will subside. The Holy Spirit convicts us, without condemnation when we fall short.

My advice for single women is to stay extremely busy so that you just don't have time for it. I have a job, 2 poodle puppies, and a Betta fish that help take up my time. If it helps: - 25% of people never do it (or less than once a year), 25% occassionally, 25% regularly and 25% more than 3-4 times a week - The verse often quoted is when Jesus said "if you look at a woman with lust". My thoughts on the above. Firstly - if you fall into the 3-4 times a week then it's more of an issue. I personally take Jesus teaching to be about not coveting, being content with what you've got and not seeking the things of Earth. I've been married for nearly 20 years. My wife likes sex once a month. I've always honoured her but if I don't masturbate (at least 3 times a week) then I can hardly concentrate on driving a car, cooking or even having a conversation. Second, I come from a generation where some Christian sex manuals speak about the use of self pleasuring as a useful method of assistance to married couples in various circumstances, so I wouldn't have placed the matter in the realm of absolutely never to begin with. He highlights how its all to easy for us to become 'theologians of glory' (i.e. the world yet to come - as in Romans 8) before passing through the pain and actual reality of our struggles right now (Paul in Romans 7), This matter needs to understood in that context. It's certainly easy for aspects of our sexuality to become a problem (if it causes withdrawal from actual life and engagement with others), but that does not have to be so. The Apostles teaching regarding our inherent sinfulness is imperative to all we determine on such matters and how we then unpack our own behaviour to seek to do what is best in our particular circumstances.

I'm not a blame shifter by any means and two wrongs certainly don't fix the problem but as a man that fights hard to stay pure, it'd be nice to STOP being condemned by hearing things like, "99% of MEN masturbate." I have a question, say you are single and you were divorced (not of any fault of your own), so you find yourself single and because of your background you do not go out and date hardly at all, and we all know that dating can lead to unmarried sex, so you refrain from dating, what can you do in that instance, one direction, or dating, can lead to unmarried sex, and yet dating is a normal thing to do if you are single, and then in another direction you know that multiple dating, which seems to be a requirement to have a chance to find someone, but you refrain from multiple dating, because it will lead to sex with different people and it really is no fault of your own, so you stay home and stay away from the flesh, which is wrong and which is the right thing to do, date and risk having unmarried sex or don't date and avoid the pleasures of multiple sex partners and stay home, isolate yourself and succumb to self pleasure. Masturbation seems to be a hot topic these days. It does not cause any short term or long term physical harm. A make orgasm releases a huge amount of dopamine and serotonin. A well known fact, men do not identify sex as a relational connection till after the orgasm has taken place. This is where men and women are different which may be one of the reasons why sex is so important for men. It’s our way of the connection completion. I digress, as a Christian I have never found masturbation harmful except that it went against my established Christian beliefs that I have been taught and how I read the word of God. I still struggle with what Jesus said about thoughts of lust. When I was a young Christian my hormones were off the charts as any young man, and I prayed about the issue as any Christian but were my prayers answered? Is it a sin? Paul said that all things are lawful, but not all things are helpful. Certainly, if porn and masturbation are preventing you from living a godly life of mercy and service then there is a cause for concern. I would say the same thing about compulsive/binge tv watching or almost any activity done for self gratification. In my estimation it is not a sin by itself, except when it becomes obsessive. Masturbation is a little more dangerous than tv watching as it is more akin to additivity of drugs. So in this sense, I would say drunkenness in masturbation is certainly ungodly, but I would question if one occasional drink is ungodly. If so, are we going back to the puritannical avoidance of any pleasure at all? Now, as for the porn industry itself, I would never defend that, but then much of the entertainment industry produces equally toxic entertainment. I would counsel moderation in all things except selfless love, rather than desperately chasing after unreachable perfection.

This might be a little off topic, but I need more revelation on this. I have a friend who met a girl, and in a very short period of time they got engaged, married, and she got pregnant with their first child. They had two kids right after this. They are now in a messy divorce. To me it seems wrong to rush into a loveless marriage, where the primary reason for getting married is the sexual part. Now they experiencing the troubles and heartache of divorce, and kids are now involved. It's quite sad.

I think its a bit more nuanced then that. I don't think people rush into marriage just for sex. They do it because they love each other and want to be together until the end. Problem is, people put themselves before their partner, and it creates a rift. So they divorce. Two aspects in love. 1. The feeling. 2. The work. Thoughtful response Pastor Mike. A birth defect keeps me from consummating a marriage. So I guess I have the gift of singleness. But I have a healthy sex drive. A man’s body is designed to continually produce sperm, and when the epididymis is full the sperm must be released, either through sex, a wet dream, or self stimulation. What I find most helpful is to keep praying for God, through the Holy Spirit, to change the way that I view women so that I see them just as He does. This helps me overcome the temptation as I can only see them through His eyes. If I find myself tempted a quick prayer for this change in my view-point is very effective. My problem is my wife is always tired, is always napping, low energy, just not happy, not joyful, not energetic, seems always depressed. She's on medication for mental health past doctor thinks she was bi polar another current doctor thinks she's female ADHD. I have a question, say you are single and you were divorced (not of any fault of your own), so you find yourself single and because of your background you do not go out and date hardly at all, and we all know that dating can lead to unmarried sex, so you refrain from dating, what can you do in that instance, one direction, or dating, can lead to unmarried sex, and yet dating is a normal thing to do if you are single, and then in another direction you know that multiple dating, which seems to be a requirement to have a chance to find someone, but you refrain from multiple dating, because it will lead to sex with different people and it really is no fault of your own, so you stay home and stay away from the flesh, which is wrong and which is the right thing to do, date and risk having unmarried sex or don't date and avoid the pleasures of multiple sex partners and stay home, isolate yourself and succumb to retraining. This is really a dilemma. Are both sins? How can you avoid both if your single, healthy and sitting at home?

Id advice you to find a partner and have sex...stop wasting your life and creating unnecessary anxiety.whats the worst that can happen if you engage in unmarried sex...realistically is that not every body will be married,and even those who are married aren't guaranteed to be married forever(as you can testifiy)...

Medical speaking when a single friend of mine went to dr about major prostate issue, he was told to eject the sperm or it could build pressure, so he did. As a christian i believe that was between him and God and as long as we dont put it before being with our spouse or to where thats all one wants to do then at times in may be medically required.

There is no medical evidence whatsoever that masturbation is physically harmful. In fact, it may be helpful for prostate health. The bible says nothing NOTHING about masturbation. But leave it to religion to imbue it with guilt. In fact, people have been made to feel guilty about sex for centuries. Sex is a gift and is for both procreation and pleasure. Everyone should be thankful for sex, either with someone else or alone. It is a blessing.

​@@greekgod41I was just coming to this conclusion myself. Like you said it's a gift to relieve sexual tension and to feel whole without needing anything outside of yourself (chasing women). I have done lots of fasting even dry fasting, eating only fruits, cold showers, etc to overcome this "bad habit", and instead of doing it consciously I started doing it when sleeping (sexsomnia). It just shows as healthy male, sexual desire isn't something bad to be overcome, you can't, unless you fast to death, rather it's a need for the body like food, nothing more. Masturbate when you feel like it and keep growing your faith stronger. That's all.

Sex with another person who you are not married to OR who is of the same sex(same gender) as you IS a sin. The bible is clear on that. I am not convinced that masturbation(absent deprivation of spouse, porn, or fantasies about a nonspouse) is always sinful, and think people go too far in saying more than the bible says about it. The ideal would be having sex with your opposite gender spouse every time the need arises, but the sin-fallen creation we live in is not ideal.

I've been married for 32 years and completely love my wife. She's the only one I've ever wanted. Over the years she's become completely disinterested in sex. I've grown tired of the rejection and don't want to argue over something like this. When I've succumbed to this, my mind is always on her and past experiences with her. It's a sad existence at times as I'm sure it appears. But I refuse to cheat on her and really have no desire too. I've often struggled with condemnation because of it. I've always wondered if it was a sin if you're not imagining or lusting over another, but just not loved in a physical way any more.
