I think you need to answer following as well: 1. Are we restricted to use this only for city considering the range? Then we lost the purpose of going out for tours in your own car? 2. What is the additional amount you pay for electric cars, which can be compensated with your maintenance for a non-EV car? 3. Do we have enough resources and flexibility to get the battery charged when you are outside city and you run out of charing in your car? 4. More importantly do you get the thrill and feel of the driving in both EV and Non- EV in a similar fashion? When these questions are answered, people will definitely move to electric cars eventually.

Well presented video. However, 1. 250 range is not what users are reporting. Its closer to 200km/full charge. 2. Initial cost and projected savings neutralize the ICE Nexon cost n usage 3. Daily drop in battery energy leads to energy losses which is more than fuel evaporation losses. 4. Oil dependency is exchanged for battery/Lithium battery dependency.
@pluginIndia4 жыл бұрын
You raise good points. But 1- We guess its 200 on highway, but you can get 250 easily in city 2- But still it does not make sense to go for a 10+ lakh Nexon AMT Petrol. You should drive an EV and support the cause. 3 - Just plugin every night, you can mitigate daily drain 4 - The Nexon EV has few KGs of Lithium for the life of car and it can be recycled, dont compare that to pollution cars which consume 10000+ liters during life of car. The environmental impact of Oil is way more than Lithium will ever be. Please see our posters with verified facts on the website.

Point 3 - no charging it every night is not a good practice. Point 2 - support a cause is different from being practical. ICE currently is realistic n practical more than the EV. (India wise) Point 4 - that few Kgs is the next Crude going to destroy the planet. Your facts are largely true, yet quite harmful as crude anyway. What I believe in EV is that, EV does not care how it gets charged so bring coal, diesel, solar, hydro. It is power source neutral. I like that. 8 years is warranty for battery, not end of life. So it will be working easily for 12 years or more. 8 year old Nissan Leafs and Tesla EVs are being sold second hand and used without battery change. Even if you wanted to change battery, the current battery price is around $150 per kWh. In 10 years it will fall to around 2 lakhs even if we take battery price as $100 usd per kWh for 30.2 KWh battery of Nexon EV. So then again for 10 years, you or second hand owner will get Rs 5 lakh savings. And that is ignoring the price increase in cost of petrol and diesel over the 10 years of both initial owner and 10 years for second owner.

@evthink4 жыл бұрын
@@bikeswithaboy6413 I wish people who want to correct others do a little bit of research. Union of Concerned Scientists have researched and determined that even in a 100% coal powered EV, the indirect emissions are 50% of petrol/diesel vehicles. This is due to EV Drivetrain efficiency at 90% vs ICE engine 30% efficiency. Also a single Coal plant is a lot more efficient than a petrol/diesel engine. Not to mention that we right now in India have 25% renewable energy. As that percentage grows the EVs get cleaner. You can put Solar on home and make EVs zero emission today but gas cars will always pollute all their life. Also while counting Coal power plant emissions, people forget emissions for Oil extraction, refining (uses a lot of Electricity too), transportation and the energy wasted in all these processes. If you do a Oil well to wheel emissions analysis vs EV battery and Electricity production to usage, EVs are negligible compared to Oil and gas vehicles pollution. But you won't, why ? Are you in any business that benefits from bad, polluting and high maintenance vehicles ? Or Oil business ? Even if you are, what could be more important than the lives and health of people around you ? During lockdown we all had Electricity, but no vehicles. Did you notice how much better the air was ?

Car manufacturers in India, must address the issue of highly priced batteries, with the Government, by getting drastic import and excise duty cuts, and transparently pass on the benefits to the customer. In reality, an EV must NEVER cost more than its Diesel/Petrol counterpart. And, EV owners should get special incentives on road tax and toll charges, right across India. Lastly, the charging infrastructure needs to expand, on a war footing, and also be offered with reasonable rates, for the power utilised for charging, so that customers can really feel the difference, in owning an EV. Remember, EV's should become attractive, economy and price wise, for the common citizens to begin the transition from Petrol/Diesel.

30.2 kw is battery capacity and u don't take only 30.2 kw from the supply u will take more than that because of charging losses, if u consider 90% efficient charger even the it'll take 33 to 34kw, and for city ride u can charge at home it's 6₹ per unit is fine but if u want to go on a long drive u need be depending on dc fast charger in that case Tata Power is charging 18₹ per kw as of now I don't know whether it's free for Nexon ev or not so here the price increases 3 times you should consider it. And there is no difference in off peak and peak load charges in most of the cities.
@guruprasadgawali4 жыл бұрын
@India AMaze u can't even get close to 98 % typical charger efficiency will be around 85 to 92 % depending on the weather and temperature because every electronic circuit has losses in terms of heat what you are saying that 98% efficiency means approximately no losses that's highly impossible u need to convert ac to dc in order to charge from home charger and even if u use dc fast charger due to high current there will be I²R losses in terms of heat and upon that lithium ion battery in itself is 99% efficient which means if u put 100kw in u will get 99kw out which means ull loose 1% in battery itself and upon that u have BMS and other protective devices and battery cooling system and even temperature effects, and the inverter which converts DC power from battery to AC for the motor is maximum 95% efficient if u use level 2 charger then it's efficiency is 86.4% and if u use level 1 charger then it's efficiency is 83.2% no device is efficient enough to reach 98-99% except transformer that to in ideal conditions. In a charging circuit every resistor, inductor, capacitor, every power diode will loose some power in terms of heat, and one more thing as the current increases power loss increases keep that in mind.
@guruprasadgawali4 жыл бұрын
@India AMaze for example take Tata Nexon ev it takes 8 hrs to charge from 20% to 100% (80% charge = 30.2x.8= 24.16kw) using a 3.3kw ac home charger which is equal to (3.3KW x 8hrs = 26.4 KW ) 26.4KW of energy if u calculate efficiency = 24.16/26.4 = 0.91515 = 91.515% this is real life real example it's easy even u can calculate it, nothing is 98-99-100% efficient only in idea case which is impossible due to the presence of passive elements in the circuit and surrounding temperature. All the calculation done above is in theory in practical the losses may increase so even the ev manufacturer says it will charge in 8 to 9 hrs which means 1hr buffer if it charges in 9 hrs then the losses will be even more then efficiency will decrease further, that 1hr buffer is for very cold weather or very hot weather where the battery has to be brought to it's normal temperature in order to charge which will utilise some power so it'll never be more than 95% efficient if u get 95% efficiency then consider yourself lucky.
@guruprasadgawali4 жыл бұрын
@India AMaze of u think 90% efficiency is horrible then what would you say about ic engine efficiency which range from 10 to 45%, and 45% is considered to be very high which is rare Toyota engine produce 36% of useful power output and Volkswagen engine record high of 45% what do u say about this ? I think by seeing these figures u will say they produce 95% efficient output and if these are the real numbers then they should shut the manufacturing units 🤣

In simple math, consider the Nexon EV costs Rs 1 per km and a diesel equivalent cost Rs 4 per km on diesel and 1 per km on lubrication and engine maintenance cost. Even if after 8 years if at all the Nexon EV gets sold for any amount, who would spend 4-6 lakhs for a new battery pack?? A petrol Nexon might fetch 1lakh or so at the lowest estimate, but wouldn't require additional investment of 4-6 lakhs as in case of nexon EV for battery replacement. The only way to promote electric vehicles is to say they cause less pollution n will overall benefit public health, but even for that this needs to be adopted on a large scale. Some 100 or 1000 EVs wont make a difference on city roads to reduce pollution. And also electric EVs needs to be sold at a price deducting the battery cost. Battery should be offered as a leased out product and its value should be recovered over its lifetime by charging the user a monthly flat fee equivalent what a person would spend on petrol/diesel for similar distance travelled minus the electricity charges already paid to charge battery.

For NMC chemistry battery, we expect around 30% degradation in 8 years. So you will get 175 km range after 8 years instead of 250 km now. But as this is liquid cooled the degradation may be lower. So you don't have to replace battery after 8 years.
@TheFourthWinchester4 жыл бұрын
@@pluginIndia 30% is worst case scenario. Teslas are running for 10 years with around 10% degradation. People also don't know that petrol cars also give lower mileage after the first 2 years. And diesel cars would be scrapped in 10 years by most middle class buyers.
@ravinagaraj70034 жыл бұрын
Nice explanation. From comments below, I would say that you will do better to assume that the battery will have to be replaced every 10 or so years and factor that into your math. It is a safe bet that the warrantied battery will not lose more than 20% of its capacity in 8 years. The battery cost is about 7 lakhs in today's monetary value, so roughly, you are paying for the equivalent of next 10 years of petrol when you buy your battery (You will see this is about the price difference between the petrol and EV versions of the Nexon, it is not a coincidence). Petrol prices will increase, battery prices will decrease, so advantage battery. Lithium is only found in China or locations where China has monopoly, when batteries are thrown away, you will probably pay for recycling the Lithium, so foreign dependence remains and there is more cost. When you charge at charging stations, the price per KW you quote will not hold good, you will pay more. No need for oil changes so some more money saved. Impossible to say what the comparative resale values will be when you sell. So, in the end, the costs are probably about the same and it becomes a matter of cleaner environment, convenience of charging at home, no need to make service visits and potential upside of battery remaining viable for the service life of the car, which unfortunately is not something entirely predictable.

What about the cost of the battery at the end of 8 years? If it's 6 lacs .. all savings would be pointless . Also the price of the car is so much more than IC engine. Evs will become viable only if battery prices and vehicle prices go down. Btw, planning to buy altroz ev (if price is around 10-12lacs).

1. What about the difference in petrol variant (the one in this video) in comparison to ev variant?? that would be a whopping 5lakhs!! this money in FD would fetch 30k at 6% interest. i can use that to offset some of my petrol cost. as in this video that would be 80K - 30K = 50K fuel cost for the year. I'll use this 50 K, for now remember 50K. In my city Pune the unit electricity cost is 10 Rupee per unit. and gets expensive once i cross 300 units per month to about 13 RS per unit. Consider 13 rupee per unit cost my annual cost to charge as in the same example as in the video would be 1.2 L (more than petrol cost.). i still save 70 K - 80 K annually on petrol vehicle (1.2 L - 50K)!!! even at 6 per unit, i will save still save 10K annually (60 k - 50K) 2. Plus what about the higher interest when you take a loan at 10% per year on EV?? assume 90% loan (13.5 L) that would be around 4Lakhs on interest approx for 5 years!!! vs 2.4L on an 8L loan on petrol version for same 5 years... so you end up paying 1.6 - 2 L more in EV, approx 30 - 40K more per year for 5 years during the loan period!!! 3. Plus i don't have to worry about cost of battery replacement at the end of 8 years??? it would be in the order of 5 - 6 lakhs minimum!!! EV is ridiculously expensive to buy and own at the moment. Until govt, manufacturer pass on the green benefits to the customer. at the moment green agenda to push EV vehicles only attract serious nature lovers or one with deep pocket and not the avg middle class buyer!!!

For NMC chemistry battery, we expect around 30% degradation in 8 years. So you will get 175 km range after 8 years instead of 250 km now. But as this is liquid cooled the degradation may be lower. So you don't have to replace battery after 8 years.

One more thing, If you install Solar plant with EV, your cost would be zero for electricity. Also this is when my plant came online on Jan 20, 2020 Current Cost of installing Solar plant currently is INR 38k/KW. Also this cost would be spread over 25 years (so beat that all petrol people) I already have solar plant, just waiting for EVs to get cheaper, as currently EVs is out of my budget,

Good video. But the initial investment cost for EV is higher. Nexon regular is 9 lakh, nexon EV is 14 lakhs.. So only after driving an EV for 6 years, the total expense ( including price of car and fuel cost) will equalize.

Till India has it own battery cell manufacturing factory/unit, like Tesla gigafactory, buying an ev in India as of now is totally unpractical. Depending on China which control 70%-80% of world lithium battery mining and manufacturing will be economic suicide for India. Therefore, the horse should come before the cart.The battery constitutes about 50-60% of the car cost. So India needs the manufacturing of cell and only then can going electric is practical.
@pluginIndia4 жыл бұрын

You don't have to change the battery after 8 years. The capacity and range will reduce, you can continue to use it. Lets say after 10 years we estimate the cost of Lithium cells to be around $60 per kWh = So you may buy a 50 kWh battery for your Nexon EV to go further better range That would be $3000 - Rs 2.25 Lakhs in todays money. With all the money you save by avoiding Petrol, you can pay the money and still be hugely profitable.
@tejasingh20744 жыл бұрын
Good to see the way you calculated cost saving for using ev vehicles but it is not true because there are many factors need to be considered before we derive certain figures. 1) Efficiency of EV vehicles goes down as you charge your vehicle. So there is loss of energy storage which effects overall mileage. 2) fuel operated vehicles we do not have such efficiency problem because mileage is not decreased with time. 3) power unit charges are kept constant for 8 yrs which is not correct and is misguiding so the figures derived is also false. 4) problem with EV is that you cannot charge vehicle when it is parked on roadside as most of vehicle owners do not have parking facility in Thor compound. 5) technology needs improvement to increase mileage of ev vehicles to at least 500 km per charge to make it more practical. 6) govt must setup charging stations on road side in every land and parking lot and create multistory car parking with charging facilities in metropolitan cities as this vehicle is not at everyone reach. 7) in India we do not have different tariffs rates for different time in a day like in Europe countries so govt must introduce if they want people to switch to ev vehicles. So a lot need to be planned and see practical part before going for ev.

You have made calculation look so simple. However, the benefits you have demonstrated dissipate quickly once you factor in depreciation cost of battery at about USD 200 per kWh, 30 kWh battery would cost about USD 6000. This is if TATA assures replacement at that price. If you drive substantial mileage within limits of warranty, you might be left with positive numbers. Good luck. By the way I am die hard fan of EV and going to own more expensive one for reason different than cost of ownership. GOOD LUCK.
