Speaking as a retired small business owner, this video is spot on. Great job.

My main takeaway here, Brandon, is that apparently people ride lawn mowers in Texas? Here in California the thing wouldn't even get out of first gear before it needed to do an about face. 🍻

The equipment you use should definitely still affect your pricing. It's not as obvious when talking about which lenses you will use for a wedding, but when the equipment gets bigger and more expensive, and the more educated your clients are, it makes sense to explain to clients that your costs will be higher if you're using a 12K light, or using a Russian Arm, or a robot arm, or using an Alexa Mini LF with Cooke s7 lenses vs using an FX3, etc. You can view it the same way as you would using more expensive pro actors vs. cheaper amateurs, or building a set vs, shooting in the parking lot, adding animation vs. not, etc. This doesn't affect the pay that the individual director or DP or anyone else makes, but it affects overall cost to the client. They understand that there are a hundred ways they could shoot a video, and shooting it this particular way will have these costs.

Brandon, you and Justin make some really really good points. Approaching things as a freelancer are a lot different than approaching situations as a business owner. There were some other things that were mentioned that greatly resonate with some things I’ve also picked up from Ty at Flash Film Academy. Would love to see all of y’all in a video sharing tips and perspectives.🙏🏾
