Dude! I just finished the video, and I wanted to tell you: my drum kit is gathering dust, I've been thinking of selling it, making excuses for why I haven't played in such a long time… But watching this video, watching you play some of the songs I KNOW how to play (somewhat), I'm 100% determined to dust off the ol' kit and get back into practicing every day. I know WHAT I'll play, WHAT I'll practice, in which order, for how much much. You literally inspired me. This is it. I'm back. Thank you, so much.

It's uncanny how much this specific video feels tailored to me at this moment in time. You're playing the songs I love, with the energy I'm looking for, you're talking about the specific things I value in drumming, and you're giving tips for exactly the pain points I felt when I started disconnecting from the practice. I remember I was super frustrated with not being able to play the verses on "International You Day", by No Use For a Name, and not really wanting to slow it down too much for practice. You touched on pretty much everything I wanted/needed to hear. LET'S GOOOOOOOO

Soon after that he started down the crazy laundry list of other artists! I've bumped into him a few times since and said hello; just a super positive energy and the nicest guy as always. This was excellent. This guy gets drumming as a musician and band drummer. He was full of excellent information and wisdom for playing in a band and I especially loved his outlook at the drummer's job as band leader. Not a leader that commands; a leader that supports to let the best come out of everyone because they have a leader to rely on. This is the skill and technique of a good drummer BEFORE any actual playing skill and technique. It's the difference between a drummer and someone that can just play drums. Also, I grew up training/playing jazz while playing punk. They're incredibly similar in a music sense. In punk, you have no time to do anything outstanding, so you have to be insanely creative with micro techniques. So many mainstream popular punk songs would never have left the underground if the drummer didn't think to do little unnoticeable things at the right time. When all musicians in a punk band are on that level, memorable bangers happen. It's such a hard and challenging style musically because the objective is to make people lose themselves to what seems to be basic beats, but it's anything but basic. For example, learn the Dude Ranch album properly, then ask yourself if you could ever have thought to come up with all that, while playing like that, at just 20. Very few could/can.
