Why does Ole have to win something to get the job? Van Gaal won the F.A Cup and was sacked because the football wasn't right, the fans wasn't entertained and the squad looked unhappy. Jose won the league cup, Charity shield (Don't really include that personally) And the Euopa for the first time in our history and was sacked. Again because,the football wasn't right, the fans wasn't entertained and the squad looked unhappy. United clearly want to win things but the bigger picture has been proven. The footballing values have to be met too. Attack, Flair, Crosses, strong, play for eachother and the fans. For the fact within a month Ole has got the football back, scored more goals in 5 games under Ole than we did under Jose over 13 games, the fans are happy, the players are happy. Give him the job, work on that and trophies may come. Poch has the same amount of english trophies than Ole and has been in the prem for years. He won't be given the job based on his past trophy success, he will be given it for what he has turned spurs into and the english talent he has brought through. Why can't we give a united legend who has made an instant impact the chance to do that?

Expecting Ole to turn that deficit around is unfair because it is based on other teams results too. we can't get in the top 4 if others don't drop enough points. Totally agree Tom... but we also have to see how the next 6 months pan out and how we develop in that time before Ole should be given the job. Great start but we don't have time for sentimentality anymore... we have to make the right call based on all the facts. Come the summer we'll have a much better idea about whether Ole and Phelan are the right call. I think they will be personally but remain grounded as we have seen how these players can down tools when the going gets tough. I know Jose was a virus but that truth remains. the players as much as the management have allot to prove to us... so far so good and I'm super stoked to just be watching games and not sitting there critiquing everything we do. It's been a breath of fresh air. You're points are totally right... but we have to see how the rest of the season goes first regardless of who gets the job!

I think he'll get to keep the job if he can get them to about 70 points at this stage... regardless of whether that equates to top 4 or not - but is should! If he manages that, then that is a phenomenal turnaround from the day Mourinho left. Remember Mourinho got 26 points from 17 games... I don't think winning the FA Cup would really affect much - if they managed it. There's no way they'll win the champions league, and even if they get knocked out by PSG I honestly don't think it'll affect too much. Although if he managed to win the CL - against all the odds - he'd be guaranteed the job.

Solskjaer is doing everything he needs to do. He understands the ethos of Man United in terms of youth development and play style, and he has inspired the players to give it their all every game. He just needs to be successful, which is not really fair when you consider the state of the team when he took over. Ole is doing a good job, and one loss to a good team like Tottenham isn't enough to rule him out of getting the permanent job. Also we need some stability in our club. We know a fan and former player of Man United is going to be willing to stay and manage the team for the long run!

Let’s get one thing straight. He doesn’t need to win anything this season. He needs to get this team to play attacking football. He needs to get United into a rhythm and let players get comfortable with formations and play style. Maybe a good push in the FA cup matches against Arsenal. And an attempt to catch top 4. Football, more than anything, is feelings, love and passion. Sir Alex gave fans that, Moyes did not, LVG did not, Mourinho did not, Ole (so far) has. Football is also about results, Ole has given that- best starting manager for a team since pre 1900. Sir Alex and Mourinho both averaged about the same points, goals and so on per game however they had 2 very different approaches. Ole (again, so far) has bested Sir Alex and Mourinhos statistics AND is playing football that the fans love. What does Ole have to do to get the job permanently? I think he has to keep doing what he's doing, say the right things, play the right football, give youths chances and be positive. There will be draws, there will come losses. However there are right ways to draw or lose and there are wrong ways, it's about trying and working hard. How many times did Sir Alex get extra points in stoppage time? Fergie time was coined for his United teams because they never gave up. How many times have you seen interviews of Sir Alex players saying "we know we can always win even late in the game." Ole just needs to be himself and take the club back to the way of Sir Alex and the glory days. With a Director of Football coming to the club I doubt the absolute elite managers would want to come, there's a massive restructuring going on at Man United and I doubt a top manager would risk his reputation on United.

I would say he has zero chance of retaining the post permanently. ManU could win the Champions League Final and he will still not be named permanent manager for Manchester United.
