I agree, this is the perfect job for me because of no human contact. I've watch videos of some people who work at night and alone in a peaceful environment. I'm a loner by nature so this job is perfect for me.

As a certified sterile processing technician i have to say that you still get people screaming in your ear. Just instead of the general public it's nurses scrub techs and even the surgeon themselves. That being said i still love what I do and I wouldn't want to be doing anything else.

For me the most challenging part was learning all the different instruments. Google was my best friend also the certification test was no joke.

@lolaWWEWWFpunk I didn't pass but was asked to retake. I decided not and found a job in the OR as a UST tech in the same hospital.

In some areas, ... SoCal for instance: Big Hospitals > $36-48/hr ($75-100k plus a lot of OT) Smaller Outpatient centers > $27-35/hr ($55k- 72k a little OT)

There's a lot of different programs available for this job please take a look at your local community college if you're in the US. There's so much room for growth also, you can stay in the SPD and move up to Lead, Supervisor, Manager and even Director. Or move on to Surgical Technologist through a follow-on course then another exam. There's also specialties such as CVOR Tech, Anesthesia Tech, Surgical First Assist. In the more advanced positions the money is great, challenging certainly but so rewarding. Please let me know if you have further questions.

Depends on where you work. There are alot of positions paying $30-$40/hr.

Oh yeah definitely and if you'll get into either travel or advanced positions (Lead, Supervisor, Manager and Director) it's all into the 6-figures. Awesome career field that's so underrated.
