Hi great info! What is the best option for live streaming as a DJ using rca output to quarter inch into Irig2. Is there a better way to get better sound quality? I've noticed my sound isn't as good as other DJs. Thanks again

Thank you for this video. Is it ever acceptable to turn on the Hi-Z button when plugging a 1/8" cordless lav mic (mic level) into the jack using a 1/8 to 1/4" adaptor? No vocals involved, only dialog from a person speaking on stage. (Hollyland Lark M1 and Live Trak L-8)

Hey great video! Question: In a looping scenario, I would be connecting my guitar/bass to a small amp and running the phone/line output into the mixer from the amp. Do I need a DI-box or the hi-z button engaged in that scenario?

I would advise to plug a line level output into a DI box, then run balanced (XLR) cable from the DI box to a line level input on the mixer (or a channel capable of receiving mic AND line level signals). The connection can be direct or through a snake/stage pocket. The signal will still be at line level, not mic level, so signal chain should be set accordingly. The mixer GAIN or TRIM for the channel should be down while the connection is being made, then adjusted appropriately once the loudest content is being played through in sound test. Also while you connect, if the DI or mixer have a PAD button, it should be engaged to reduce chances of damaging your system with sudden pops. Although ideally the GAIN will be turned down at the mixer, this is another step to prevent system damage. Some mixers might not have GAIN where the input plugs in (some Line-Ins specifically do not). Engaging the PAD whilst connecting to the mixer would relieve most issues that might otherwise pop up in that case. Also. On your DI box, ensure that any GROUND LIFT is disabled. After plugging in, if you actually have a buzz on the line, then and only then lift only the ground needed (some boxes have more than one lift) to resolve the buzz. It doesn't always require all of the available lifts.

Also I would say no Hi-Z on that line input.

If the mixer only has Quarter-Inch line ins, in this case use a female XLR to TRS 1/4" adapter at the board. The input should be balanced - look at documentation on your mixer for this.

With stereo source material, you can go through a stereo direct box, sending two channels out. Some stereo-capable DI boxes can also "sum to mono" in which you can send both stereo signals down one channel, but you lose stereo imaging you might have wanted at the mixer for panning purposes. My favorite stereo- and mono-/summing-capable DI box is the Whirlwind PCDI. Radial PRO-AV2 is great too, but it does not do summing so you have to use stereo out (2 channels) if your source was stereo.

Question, if I'm going from my electric guitar through a Boss ME-80 Multi-Effects pedal, is my signal now a line level signal or should I still use Hi-Z. All plugs are 1/4" jacks connected to mono.

I am about to buy a Behringer UMC 204 HD as it meets all my necessary aspects. But I really am stuck on the Hi Z stuff! Would you please let me know if there is any Hi Z provision in there? Would be of great help, thanks already for the content.

Should I connect my AT2020 mic to hi-z to record classical guitar? Thanks for all your videos.
@kettnercreative10 ай бұрын
No, this is only if you're connecting a 1/4" cable directly to an instrument with magnetic pickups. If you're using a microphone, you don't need this.

Why does my Yamaha ag06 take a drum machine into the guitar input but has no volume in the line input? Weird it doesn’t sound blown out it actually sounds the cleanest with good volume. I must be doing something wrong unless the wires are switched?

I connect my martin electroacoustic guitar directly to a mixer using a 1/4 cable and the the hiz button doesn't make any difference to the sound of the instrument. Any ideas?

Is it okay to use the hi-z button if the phantom is activated particularly in profx6v3 that only have 2 mic channel strips? Thanks. Great content.
@kettnercreative Жыл бұрын
Hi-z button applies only to 1/4” input. Phantom power only goes to xlr input.

QUESTION: Will Hi Z function have any effect on my acoustic guitar if im connecting acoustic guitar via wireless route such as Shure BLX14 Wireless Guitar System?
@kettnercreative Жыл бұрын
I believe the wireless system will do the impedance matching for you.

Can you insert a typical guitar pedal between your Instrument and Hi Z input?
@kettnercreative8 ай бұрын
Yes you can.
