I've a lot of time for Sir Lindsay. Not just because it's great to hear such a prominent Lancastrian voice in public life, but I was a young trainee surveyor working for a coal mining company who wanted to develop a landfill site in his constituency. The way that Hoyle, a local councillor, stood up for the constituents who elected him, taught me a lot about democracy.

If MP's and the PM aren't telling the truth to the house and nothing is done about it, it's just a pointless pantomime. If the current framework of procedures isn't able to stop the lies then the speaker should change the procedures.

@tomblackwell6374
@tomblackwell6374 2 жыл бұрын
@@origin9249The rules around un-parliamentary language prevent a greater level of scrutiny. For example the speaker is forced by convention/rules to remove any MP from debate for saying another MP lied or intentionally mislead Parliament regardless of whether they actually have or not. This restricts freedom of speech, dampens the value of debate in Parliament and only encourages more unofficial debates on tv/press. Don't get me started about 'The Right Honourable' title tripe too, representing your constituency is the only title that should count unless they are a minister/shadow minister.

I must say, I liked John Bercow but I also really like Sir Lindsay. He seems like a great person, fun personality but also incredibly dedicated to the role.

Bercow loved the sound of his own voice to much and was way to impartial for a speaker.

Bercow was better at calling people out. He made sure that MP's were afraid of speaking out of terms, meanwhile Hoyle let's lies be smeared round the chamber.

@@Ragnarok3435-x5w Bercow was a bully and was known by all as that. He was a rude and arrogant man, he was entertaining but not right for the speaker role compared to our current one.

@@Horizon301. No he wasn't a bully. It's just the whiny Brexit Tories who couldn't get their own way that accused him of bullying to try and get him removed from his job because they thought he was stopping their fake fantasies from becoming a reality.

@@Horizon301. Come on, he was speaker for over a decade, re elected multiple times, always moderating the debates. Just because The SUN can get 4 videos of him being a bit rude back to rude MPs out of that doesn't mean he was a bully. He certainly liked to hear himself speak though.

@@Ryan-ce1oc perhaps do some basic research on the matter, it wasn’t brexit related at all. And if you claim what you claim then it shouldn’t happen because he should be impartial, hence Hoyle is repeated as is deputy speaker. They ran on improving from his tenure, that’s a Labour remainer in case you aren’t aware
