Most of the accusations of being racist, homophobic, ableist, etc are unfounded and/or are taking situations widely out of context, and/or come from genuine ignorance. Despite this, some people continue to hate on him with the excuse that he is racist, homophobic, or ableist. Now, I understand not accepting an apology, but continuing to accuse the person who has already apologised for their actions of being racist/homophobic/etc is bullshit to me. Just say you don't like him and move on, no need to keep harassing a person who has already said they're sorry. I think Dream genuinely has the capacity to change and learn, he’s still young and seems like he has a fairly open mind. Genuine criticism of his crappy behaviour could go a long way, which is why it sucks that the discourse is completely drowned out by obsessive anti-stans who jump on any tiny thing he’s done to add to their “Dream is pure evil” Twitter threads. So my friends and I were talking about this and the conclusion we came up with was that because all people had to go off of when it came to Dream's looks was fanart. When the majority of the internet decided to depict him as being a hot anime boy, and he looks like a normally attractive man, people became disappointed. It's not fair to him at all, but we also figured out that part of it is because there was so much hype around it. There are plenty of other normally attractive people who didn't face this kind of drama because they showed their face from early on in their career. Honestly I feel bad for Dream because he's been victim to both sides of the spectrum. He was extremely sexualized by fans online and then when he didn't look like those people's fantasies they called him ugly. It's just horrible and what's worse is he isn't the only content creator who has to deal with that.

For me, Dream was a content creator that I saw a lot of the same traits that I hated about myself, but instead of hating himself he has become successful and doesn’t care. Seeing so many people call him ugly made me feel self-conscious about my own appearance, as absurd as that sounds. Not everyone has to like him, but don’t body shame him. Everybody saying there's nothing 'different' or 'out of the ordinary' with the way this guy looks are clearly lying to themselves. The problem isn't that the guy looks different- the problem is the implication that's an inherently bad thing. People are going to try and make it seem like that's the case, but the only way I feel you can truly overcome that sort of pushback, is to own it. Like, not saying he should do the troll face and then put it on a T-shirt for people to buy- but if he were comfortable enough with himself to do that, that's a pretty big seizure of power in terms of the web at large.

The thing with ADHD meds is that as a kid you take them because you're told to and a lot of parents do a really bad job at conveying what they're for so it can feel like you're taking them so other people can tolerate you, as an adult you take them because they make your life easier, everyone goes through this stage as a teenager where you think you know better, so a lot of teenagers with ADHD will stop taking their meds because they don't see the point, it's possible to go through the day without, life is just more exhausting while it slowly devolves into chaos or you develop a caffeine addiction (caffeine is like ritalin/adderal with more side effects) and some people genuinely do better without as they grow up.

Not gonna lie, the Dream ADHD medication thing hit me personally. At the time that came out my child who was 9 at the time saw that and that actually pushed them to stop taking their medications that they had been taking for about a year at that point for their ADHD. They where pretending to take it but where spitting it out when we weren't looking. Thank God we caught in quick because my child suddenly stopping their medication did have an effect on their mental health. My child is good now. We have continued medications but medications were not the first not the only thing we have used for my kid's ADHD. Edit: my child out right told me they got the idea from seeing conversations about the Dream video. It wasn't exclusively the Dream video by the way. I've learned from all of this that kids should only have monitorer Internet usage. I made the mistake in thinking people talking about Minecraft content creators would 100% be child friendly stuff.

Thing is, he did this himself. Two things he did wrong: 1. Hype his face up way top much. He did all those pics teasing his face, and the vids of other creators who were like "WOAH THATS WHAT DREAM LOOKS LIKE??". He should've not done that, that only made people excited for his face. He should've kept it as an unimportant part of it all. If he just dropped that face reveal, without hyping his face up so much, nothing of these proportions would've happened. And 2. He did the Troll Face too much. If he doesn't tilt his head to the side, he just looks like a dude. But the troll face-esque 3/4ths view on his head just made him look unproportional.

Your comment about how what content/comments you put out shapes how your community/audience develops reminds me of C.S. Lewis views on ethics. Basically, he describes how our souls/self are a blank slab when we are born and each decision or act we have in our life’s chisels at that block. So when we do something it fundamentally shapes who we are as a person (or content creator in this case). That doing unethical things makes us an ugly person and doing ethical things makes us an attractive person (not physically fyi). That’s a super simplistic explanation but it just reminded me of it. Edit: it also means that doing something once makes it easier to do again. So doing something unethical to a “bad” person because they are a “bad” person changes you into a person that does that unethical thing. Which he goes on to elaborate that it becomes easier and easier to do that unethical thing and the threshold to whom you are doing that unethical thing decreases each time you engage in it. So you could say that someone’s audience/community has become an external representation of one’s soul/self.
