Oh man. They were so good. Well as far as I know, the vocalist Tyson Stevens sadly passed away back in 2014, they band got back together last year and released a song called 'loved forever' which was a nice little tribute to Stevens as it actually featured samples of his vocal parts from the song 'Blood runs forever' and that's as much as I know. Hopefully we get to see a video that goes further into it and gives a lot more detail 🙏

SO! I'm from Buffalo and I wanted to share something from Cute's history. When I was in high school Cute came to play a show for us. It must have been in 2009 or 10. They won some Kiss 98.5 competition i think. So at the time i believed it was the original line up but watching this video i see it must not have been. Obviously an auditorium of teenagers at a mandatory assembly were not willing to hype up the band that was trying to play. They kept trying to get everyone to cheer and stuff but no one was really complying besides a group of maybe 15 girls who were standing up by the stage. It was pretty funny because as a local band that had gotten big all our teachers thought we'd find the band inspiring. Most of them had even attend that school in specific. So the guys stopped playing for a second and told us about a text hotline you could use to cheat on your homework and tests ( this was pre smart phones I still had a phone that slid sideways to reveal a keyboard) XD they won us over with that bribe. I was working on yearbook photography for it at the time and ive been a fan for so long even though noone knows who they are anymore XD.

In spring of 2017 the lead singer of Cute (opening up for We the Kings on their ten year self titled run) stopped his set to yell at me personally for not paying attention. My friend had to interrupt me to tell me that my attention was being requested on stage. I have been to probably triple digit shows in the past decade and that is probably the weirdest thing I’ve ever had happen to me at one.

I actually purchased their Rotation album 2 days before my family left our home in the US and moved to Canada. I was 15 years old, now in a brand new country (again) and I listened to it on repeat. It was one of the few things I got to take with me when we moved. This band brings back so many memories of my most angsty years. I hope Shaant is doing okay. I hope all of the men are!

Hello! (Someone just sent me this video) Just for reference - I was in cherrybing - that song was 100% stolen as we have it recorded on our final album. It was used as a tool to help them achieve their success. A piece you are missing from our story is we had an in person meeting with the owner of drive thru records at his house - he loved our album but wanted us to get rid of the horns in order to be signed, but we did not want to because we all grew up together and we didn’t want to leave anyone behind. That is what sparked the end of shan’t and jeff leaving. To be clear I WAS salty only because they used a recording, that I wrote and recorded and received no credit. That was their highest listened to song on pure volume. That piano song is indeed on the final Cherrybing album which you can listen to on Spotify. Thanks, and good work with your research!

This is so funny and undoubtably true. Most of-if not all the lyrics from Blood Rush were not written by him, I use to speak with Shaant on AIM all the fucking time. I was known on MySpace for poetry and ghost writing for bands back then. I helped Shaant write a HUGE portion of that album's lyrics. You can very well tell the lyrical difference from Blood Rush to Rotation. It just goes to show you, the truth comes out sooner-or-later. P.s I find it kinda funny that when I started telling people this back then he messaged me on MySpace and said "Keep It Up". Like it was going to scare me.

I hate how this video is 5 years old and it's still relevant. Cute slowly became one of my all time favorites after their most recent break up, which is now their longest hiatus, but their still on my bucket list just out of hope they come back. I heard Shaant now is still sober and got married and has a daughter and him and his wife own a hair salon in Buffalo, which if it's true I'm happy for him and I can imagine he changed his perspective with his 2017 comments if he hadn't already, but I feel there's no chance of them coming back unless the price is right. I met shaant at the 2018 CIWWAF show in Boston. Really cool dude, semed like he had a good head on his shoulders. Maybe it was just to put on a good face but he was hanging out in the crowd for all the openers and took a picture with everyone who asked. I talked with him for a few minutes about his recovery and buffalo sports and stuff, he said he had a fiance who really was helping him get into a good headspace. Shaant said they were working on new music and that it would definiteley be out in 2019. I don't really care that new music didn't come out, honestly didn't really believe him when he told me. Maybe he realized that public life wasn't for him, I hope he is okay.

Sounds to me like the dude isn't into political correctness and tasted a bit of backlash for his opinion. nowadays it's career suicide or even worse when you don't have a liberal ideology. He probably said fuck it and move on into obscurity living with his family happily.
@Lettheflamesbeginx35 ай бұрын
@@eldirtyfaygo5395 Unless this comment has something to do with Shaant posting online in support of Trump or something, then no, people calling out the lyrics goes BEYOND 'political correctness,' and 'not being liberal,' though, if someone doesn't has a moral code in the FIRST PLACE, I wouldn't expect them to understand 🤷♀️ 'Blood rush,' had 2 overarching themes 1) ' slut-shaming,' and 2) they REALLY wanted people to know that they were sexually active...It's definitely a questionable (at minimum) choice, considering the fact that I'm pretty sure they were young when this album was released, and their target audience was very young as well. Like, just because teenagers in general are hella immature and 'have raging hormones' (and sexual activity sometimes goes along with those 2 things)... There are so many things that SHOULDN'T have been OK-ed. ESP. if they were teenagers, and/or if they were trying to appeal to teenagers. I don't know if part of the dynamic was that Shaant (the vocalist) thought he was attractive/appealing, and/or that the label thought he was, but like.... If he wasn't a teen, I really hope that he wasn't trying to appeal to teens? I remember my friend, Emily, had 'Blood Rush' on CD (I don't care enough to type the whole album title), and we used to listen to it back in MIDDLE SCHOOL. Yes, I was a fan of them in middle school (and high school). I remember back in '05-'07, 'everyone' in music was calling 'everyone' a whore. There was Misery Business (Paramore), I write sins not tragedies (Panic! at the Disco), and 'slut shaming' was a recurring theme on the album 'Blood Rush,' -- though, to be specific, he refers to whoever as a 'whore,' specifically in the song 'Newport Living.' Yet, for the most part, Hayley has been the main one that people have shamed. It's beyond. The one that always got me was 'The Fourth Drink Instinct,' because Shaant 'slut shamed' a MINOR (he mentioned in the lyrics that she's underaged and has a fake ID) for...someone else r*ping her, when she was too drunk to consent. 🤮 🤬 WHO approved these lyrics?! And no, I don't give 2 sh*ts that it was 'a different time.'

One of my bands opened for them on their 2012 or 13' shows. During their set there was a wasted girl standing next to me side stage screaming at the band and falling down. I decided to help her by getting her outside but before I could do that he decided to stop the show and tell me to get my bitch girlfriend out the venue. I yelled back at him I don't know her and she is drunk and he told me to leave and ask for security. Not knowing that I was a bigger name myself in the town he was in. After the show I confronted him outside, he was sitting in a corner alone smoking a cigarette and drinking a mix drink. He apologized and said the song meant a lot to him and I basically told him I don't have a problem with you but one day someone might. Weird and fully obsessed guy. Oh and back in 2005 or 06 before they got a drummer I was talking to them on myspace to play drums for them. Guess I dodged a bullet...

Super late to the party on this but I’m glad you mentioned Dave Melilo here. He had a podcast series called “Too Young to Fail” which basically was him sharing how he started writing songs, being courted by Drive-Thru, meeting and touring with CIWWAF and seeing Paramore when they were just getting started, writing songs with the guy from Better than Ezra, shifting from writing Dashboard-esque songs to more complex, out-there songs, and ultimately being screwed over by Drive-Thru. It’s a pretty fascinating story.

they were huge in Buffalo and I remember my older sisters good friend was asked out by Shaant and said no. I remember being so jealous and wondering what was wrong with her to turn down someone who made music I lived for… but looking back as an adult she probably dodged a bullet.

I remember this band back in high school and saw there's a class for this on fuse and thought they were a cool band. Bands like the acadamy is, october fall, amber pacific and cartel, hey monday, foever the sickest kids, and even post hardcore bands like funeral for a friend, saosin, circa survie, afi, a change of pace, lovehatehero, underoath, from first to last, stutterfly, I set my friends on fire, eyes set to kill, thursday as well. pop and power pop and post hardcore was what I got into in high school because of fuse, but i never bought there records just cause I was a little older and was growing out of it.

I love how, out of this entire video, the only thing I’m thinking at the end is that I always thought the growling “123 123 pick it up123” in Bomb the Music Industry’s “Congratulations John on Joining Every Time I Die” was like a joke on a dude leaving a ska band to join a metal-core band when it’s actually just a reference to an Every Time I Die song and I’m just an idiot lol. Funny the things you learn listening to a dude talk about Cute is What We Aim For for an hour. Well that and that bands in the 2000’s that played any sort of punk and/or one of its sub genres all had really long names for some weird reason. Then again I’m in a band with a number in the name so maybe I should shut the hell up about how other bands name themselves.

In 2019 a song called, Through To You was randomly uploaded onto the Cute Is What We Aim For Spotify page. I was surprised that a new song was uploaded and the song is really awesome. Unfortunately nothing more was ever uploaded by Cute.

Been streaming the album recently for the first time. (Unsure how I never heard this until now) My favorite thing is the lyrics and song context. Themes of chasing a rush, charming girls, city lights, and attention. Although I’m familiar with these topics in songs, none have done it in the manner Aim For did. At times, the lyrics can be cocky, arrogant, and condescending. But I kind of like that. Reminds me of 2005 MTV. You just had to be there. I never managed to listen to the album when it was released so I like that I’m building association with it during present day. I live in San Diego so that kinda helps when driving down the sunny highway. WE GO WHEREEEEEE THE MONEY GOES.

Met them at the 10 year anniversary tour in Oklahoma! At that date they all seemed pretty cool and Shaant told a story about a prank with a Buffalo park bench ending in the bench getting hit by a cop car + he said that A Closed Mind With An Open Mouth was "a mistake" lmao. The band offered to buy us tea. Based on some other comments maybe this show was before he relapsed...
