She started her career in the early 80ies in a french movie called "la Boum" - "the party", about a teenage girl's coming to age, discovering love and sex. She won the césar - the french equivalent to the academy awards - as best newcomer actress for her role in "La Boum 2" in '82.

Of course they don't just find actresses on the side of the road to play Bond Girls. Many of them already had successes. But for the USA audience, success in French films means nothing. It's not that Americans hate France - which would be stupid since without France we would still be a British colony - it's just that French films are rarely shown in the USA. I’ve literally been going through a James Bond phase for the past week, watching various reviews and comparisons of film from 3+ years ago, even old gameplay footage of the various Bond games I’ve owned.
