With all that oil starvation, that motor must have sounded horrible! BTW! Fantastic and interesting video's. Plus your English is getting better all the time! Eventually do a motor refurbishment and assembly vid. This one with the worn out pistons and overheated con rod would have been perfect to see how things are repaired.

Great videos very informative..Quick one. 2.0 L 16v 147 twin spark. Running awful and appears to be misfiring at idle and all through rev range Smells of fuel and wet fuel out of tail pipe. Did live data diagnostic and I have zero spark advance. Had ALL new injectors plugs and coil packs, and Maf replaced plus compression test, all good readings before I got it.. O2 sensors are reading high voltage and not switching until one very deep switch when I blip the throttle ( rich i believe) Going to change out the crank sensor as obviously not right but incase it doesnt fix the issue what else should I be looking for?

Hello. I would say a cracked coil pack. But it's that is new, the most fundamental thing on these engines is proper timing. Something that I'm my experience is always very bad. You can check and correct it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6CWo5puos14obcsi=d2qCumz_68RoS7RV

Hello, thanks a lot for these videos, they are very helpful to a lot of "home mechanics" like myself :) Seems like lack of maintenance killed my friends 1.6 TS. Consumed a lot of oil (about 1l per 1000-1500km) and now has low compression in 1st cylinder. What do you think could be the issue? Havent tested yet if its bottom end or top, planning on adding a bit of oil into the cylinder and seeing if the compression improves. Is it possible to replace the piston rings with the engine in car? Thanks again and greetings from Czech Republic :)
@alfaromeonoproblem4 ай бұрын
Hello. Burnt valve is the number one issue, mainly with hi oil consumption. You can take care of the ring with the engine in place, but the issue is not the rings, it's the bore, out of round... So, oversized pistons will be for the best.
@Obv1ously4 ай бұрын
@@alfaromeonoproblem Hello, thank you for the quick reply :) We will do some more diagnostics then and try to figure out if its a valve or bottom end issue. Engine has only about 180k km so hopefully the bores will not be out of round too much..

I think these engines are still good as long you take care of them. I drive a 2004 156 1.8 on LPG. And it uses 1 liter of oil every 1500 km aprox. I use Valvoline 10W-40 semi syn. And try to change the oil every 10k but some times it was a bit longer. But at least every year. With LPG you have almost no carbon build i believe. Last time i saw my engine "naked" with a timinbelt replacement it looked very nice. It has almost 305.000 km done and still starts very well and drives well in think. I change sparkplugs every 55K as well as the timinbelt. I use NGK sparkplugs. Would you have other advise to do on these engines to stay healty as long as possible? Greetings from the Neterlands.
@alfaromeonoproblem4 ай бұрын
Hello. That is a lot of oil consumption, it may burn a valve or two. Try 10w60, that's all we use here
@karlos10604 ай бұрын
@@alfaromeonoproblem I did use that before but no difference in oil consumption. Maybe in best scenario 200km extra. I don't think it will make a difference using 10w60. And what do you mean it may burn a valve or 2? Does oil usage cause vales to burn? I haven't had that so far and the engine still runs and sounds healthy. No misfires, no engine lights, good clod and warm starts and still enough power. (for sure not 140 anymore)

When you resurface the cylinder block what happens with the piston hight ? Do you take of from the piston hight ?
@DashCamSerbia Жыл бұрын
I think just thicker head gasket is used.
@alfaromeonoproblem Жыл бұрын
Normally it stays inside the factory specs. A thicker gasket is common on diesel ones, but on gasoline ones not so much. Taking out the top of the pistons is also a good way but the removal is necessary.

I just noticed that my dipstick tube seal below have completely burst out and the dipstick tube is a bit higher that it should be i think [popped out]. it causing a pretty big oil leak when revving, and the oil goes on the cat creating burning smell and smoke. Can this also create a vaccum leak ? i know its far from the crankcase though. Can it be the reason why my car is running rough and very low power at low rpms sometimes stalls. MAF data seems fine, as well as o2 sensors. tested for leak from intake but all seems good. should i dig deeper ?

@alfaromeonoproblem Жыл бұрын
Hello. You may have problems on the spark plugs, oil on them. That and the timing may be a bit off. Those ten years not working it may have the piston rings stuck. See if this helps: kzbin.info/www/bejne/baavkGmsoKqKhrc

@doraexplora9046 that may be a bit risky for the bearings and cylinders. But if it works, great!
@doraexplora9046 Жыл бұрын
@@alfaromeonoproblem If you are concerned then thin the oil down with Kerosene and flush out all oil galleries with that. I've done this many times over my 45years of playing with cars and the final result is nothing short of breath taking. 1. Only do this at idol. 2. Stop as soon as, or slightly before the engine has warmed up. The other thing I've done is rather than fully disassembling the motor. Use a VERY HOT water pressure blaster on the assembled motor to clean it and let the hot water evaporate off. Remove the pistons and clean the pistons and rings. Thoroughly lubricate everything with fresh oil. Build up oil pressure before starting the car. This usually cleans out ALL issues that were due to infrequent oil changes and carbon build up. I have a mint condition 156 2.0l with only 90,000kms on it which I intend to do this to and replace ALL gaskets when done.
