Another great analysis. My main problem is not looking back far enough and thinking of what the range could be considering pre-flop action. When you think in this much depth, it really shows how what could be portrayed as, especially 3 handed, quite an easy call, is actually quite an easy fold.

I think it is easier when you can see both hands. You should do the analysis from one players perspective and block from knowing what the other players have until the end to see if your read is correct.

i love how what used to be considered pretty crap hands.. double gappers, like J8s.. are now GREAT hands to defend with, call raises with, play with.. again.. reading poker books for last 10 yrs, and calling with J8s isnt really " in there".. it is NOW.. and its good to know, good to see, and even better to see and hear.. helps me in determining how i need to approach things with a wider stance, hand on the holster, ready to rip off three barrels, etc, and do it with "Air" , because my RANGE says I can.. not my hand.. damn.. its like " Stop..............Dave........................... Dave..................... Stop............................. We can work this out.........Dave................."... now I have a whole new arsenal, if I can learn when to fire, when to check, when to fold up the tent and wait for better weather...

Doug seems to be pretty exceptional at heads up and he's quite well known. I don't think Daniel has anything to prove anymore. He seems to be content being an (if not "the") ambassador of the game. But sure, he might put his money on Doug too.

Great analysis Daniel. I never could have imagined I would be able to fold to that river bet in Vela's position, but now it is pretty clear. I saw Vela float some people with queen high in some very strange spots and bink a queen on the turn multiple times. Yes he got lucky in those spots, but he should really slow down and think about things otherwise he is donking off chips left and right. Looking forward to this series from you. Thank the baby jesus you will not be discussing politics.

Vela checked dark before the flop came out. He was doing that during the whole live stream final table, whether he was the pre-flop aggressor or defending out of the blinds. A ridiculous strategy. It finally bit him in this hand. Good analysis by Daniel nonetheless
@jeremeo62
@jeremeo62 5 жыл бұрын
I think the key of the hand is that overall Vela is very face up on what he has, specially checking on the river meaning usually showdown value. (Bluffs would prob bet the river because many pocket pairs can fold) His opponent is surely good enough to understand that so he's probably not bluffing a lot in this spot, knowing his opponent mostly has an ace

as played i would like to see vela betfold the river, he might get called by a queen or an ace, but if you decide to check the river you should propably just fold coz there are so few hands that you beat as you said.

Daniel, against the range of hands the other guy can have, arent we more likely 'at the very least' chopping? The guy hit a backdoor flush and how often does that happen. It'd be the least likely hand I'd put him on and be more worried about three 5s. That said, I can't see myself folding here with those odds, and that's why I'm not a professional player :) Great advice though on taking time and re-thinking how it's played out. I'll defi keep that in mind!

Serious question Daniel.. If he always bets his A10-A2, won't that make his check back range exploitable? If he always bets those aces on the flop then he can't have them on the turn/river.. Unless you meant to say he's going to bet half his aces on the flop and check the other half which (please correct me if I'm wrong) is just a bad play to do. Talking about this board texture obv. Not just any board

Why should we be mixing in limps w A4? I think if we are going to play from the sb we should always come in for a raise because otherwise we need to balance both our limping and raising ranges, instead of just having to balance our raising range. Maybe good players feel comfortable balancing both, but I think it seems hard.

Flop: A4o must bet on 553 because we don't want to give a free card to JT/J9/etc (and indeed villain checks back with J8s). River: AA55Q must x/f because villain can't be bluffing, as he'd have bluffed the flop with "napkins" like JT.

How many better hands does Vela have in this spot though? Perhaps some flushes that he decided to check river with (seems unlikely but possible). But realistically it seems he's near the top of his range. Obviously he doesn't beat any hands in Harder's value range, but shouldn't he still expect Harder to have some bluffs here as well to maintain balance? Basically, if Vela should be folding this, what's the worst hand he can have that you think he should call with?

At 2:06 a Daniel’s “small mistake” turned out to be a HUGE one! Had Vela bet into Chris at flop and (provided he called??) continued on the turn, Chris would’ve folded (maybe even at flop) and never made it to the river (completed flush). So, he let Chris buy a free card on the turn?? A terrible call. A costly one.

Question: What do you do in a tournament, when you're dealt top tier hands consecutively? (I was dealt 10-10, K-K, Q-Q, AJ, A10, AQ all in a row. I won all except chose not to play the last hand AQ, because it didn't feel right and under the gun)

Andrew Corbett, I agree. Maybe the flop surprised him. But he should have had a plan if the flop came down like that and checking doesn't seem like a good plan. I don't know about huge but three mistakes like that in a tournament and you're done
@andyschannel88
@andyschannel88 7 жыл бұрын
yea it wasn't a huge mistake I guess. really just betting to see where you are in the hand isn't a bad idea...if he calls you at least know he has something. By checking you are just giving out free cards. If you let the chaser chase and he wins....you didn't play the hand correctly. If he calls your bet after the flop than he is just a bad player that got lucky.

Daniel, you're absolutely right that basically, you are better off being friends with your competitors than enemies. Followed your mantra on that in my local games and it has made the game so much more fun. Do I want to lose $1000? No. But if I played the hand properly, did all I could, it's much better to give a fist bump to the other player than a snarl. All the best, and we'll work on your politics a little later.
