RoseRise YG is known to not let his artist make music for long periods of time. It’s known as the YG dungeon. He’s done it to BlackPink as well, that’s why they still only have a few songs and no full album even though they have been debuted for years.

I first saw CL in a 2NE1 concert and she was CHARISMA embodied. She stole the stage and was radiating energy! But her US image did not really allow her to showcase her charm and personality. I feel like she was posed to be some "Asian Rhianna Bad Girl" for the Western market and it snuffed out her natural energy and quirk. If you watch her English interviews they are mortifying... like CL being asked "what is one thing fans don't know about you" and she goes on to pause, "mmmmm" and then clunkly replies that there is nothing. It's just weird and I'm heartbroken she is not releasing music at this point T_T.

But I think the reason she did not get good oromo back then is beause no one in america really took k-pop seriously back then, and thought "ah this will do" and gave the bare minimum. It wasn't really until BTS bbmas that k-pop got taken seriously as contenders for awards and thus global artist rankings. Recently NCT 127 and Blackpink have been allowd to perform at news channels and morning news, NCT got invited to amas a year after BTS went, and I am very grateful now the world knows more about K-pop. I think during CL's time it still would have been possible since BTS did it but it would have taken higher chartings on the main billboard charts, and a steady development of a US fanbase.

Hello Bitches would have been a much better debut song for her, because it showed off her persona perfectly. She didn't have good promo because YG booked only what he did. If he wanted better promo, he would have let her sign to Scooter for him to be able to have a better control of her U.S. career, but YG didn't let that happen.

Well, BlackPink was first endorsed as "The New 2NE1" a few months after YG disbanded 2NE1 and that's why people started watching BP. You didn't really answer the question posed in the title, was that the point? CL has dropped several comments over the last year or so that she has a whole album that YG refuses to release. She also shot some videos for it that were never released. Some of the people in the US she worked with said she's primed and ready to go, but YG simply will not move forward. So clearly they are deliberately steam rolling her, which is insane, she's a huge star. Maybe that signature demeanor makes her hard to work with or maybe they want to bury her as part of gen 2 not to interfere with BlackPink. Whatever the direct reason, its a shame. I wish her luck in the future, maybe she'll sign with an agency that will allow her to show her full talent. Meanwhile, welcome back Bom, Spring is awesome.

That's kinda how I felt while watching the video. At first, I was excited that someone was bringing light into the subject but then after seeing the video... I couldn't help but feel disappointed & frustrated, maybe is because I'm a blackjack & CL is my bias or it could be due to my nature of trying do dig deeper into the subject. After seeing people not really engaging in the comments it made me feel as if know one knows what happen. And let's be honest here, due to YG's neglecting CL lost a lot of popularity & traction while some fans got tired or waiting. It was also "fun" within the kpop fandom to make fun lf the situation & this still happens, not to the same degree but still present. To the best of my abilities, I decided to make a comment on the events. I wasn't expecting so much support but I'm glad that is getting a lot of likes (About 300+ so far) therefore the exposure for others to see it is more likely to happen. I do think if this series if done correctly can be amazing but the videos don't have enough substance & the info is not accurate as if he's scared to get sued which I feel like is unlikely to begin with.

@@jessyan1016 typically videos with these titles offer an explanation, this vid just barely presented her history after 2NE1 poses questions everyone has. There was some info I didn't know, like I had no idea she has new music videos passed bad bitches. However having followed her Instagram and some other news, it's pretty clear YG, whom this video commentator absolves ridiculously, is purposefully ignoring CL. She's made many comments, most damning the video clip she showed clips of an mv she filmed and they never released and stating their was a full album not being released. She's also made frustrated comments like 'All they care about is money'. Coupled with american producers saying they worked with CL, she's a star and everything is ready for her to come to the US and release her album. To me YG is failing CL like they failed Bom and as a whole 2NE1. They failed to defend Bom regarding the controversy, even though their MAMA performance was a huge success. All evidence to me points that they disbanded 2NE1 as to not have competition for BlackPink and are burying CL for similar reasons. They've now invested in BlackPink coming to the US, they don't want a riff between CL/2NE1 fans and BlackPink. It's crazy to me because watching her live performances, she's absolutely poised to be huge. If not in the US, then at least Korea, Japan and China. She's now having to bide her, gridlocked until her contract is up and she can go somewhere else.

Agreed. This whole video feels more like the intro or maybe a part 1 of a series that will address or theorize "What happened to CL?" but it never really goes deep into it. If you follow her enough is obvious that YG keeps pushing her because is not a priority to her and that's upsetting as a fan, having to see her in social median complaining about YG not able to call her back is just so upsetting. I think the "All the care about is money" was recent? Correct if I'm wrong btw but I recently just saw it. I do believe that statement, once they see that cash they want more and more compromising the music and artistry. CL just needs a better support system having her back. I do wonder how she could do if Brauns takes fully in charge of her American promotions but I think maybe PNation could be promising option too? She could also go independent, she has what it takes to do that & her personal team can support her. YG time after time has failed to support 2NE1 as a group and the members as individuals. With Bom's case, gosh I felt so upset & you could see the difference in treatment with her and let's say GD or TOP's drug scandals. Her situation was not worth to reach such level but YG allowed it. Dnation has backing her up more than YG and I'm glad Bom has a company that is willing to fight for her. While the MAMA performance was a success among fans (gosh never fails to make me cry just like the first time) it wasn't well received by the netizens. Also Bom did a bow that was cut from the final cut and fans were upset. I made a similar to yours while replying to someone else in the comments about 2NE1 & BlackPink. I do think fans are in denial by trying to make such statements. With 2NE1's reputation tarnished due to YG's shitty management instead of trying to fix things they decided to star anew with BlackPink and this a common practice within KPOP and yet fans don't want to acknowledge it. BlackPink is similar enough to 2NE1 to bring some nostalgia factor to the fans but also "different" enough for people to say "They are not copying 2NE1. BlackPink has a different concept". YG sacrificed 2NE1 for BlackPink and that's fact. Not sure if you looked for my other popular comment that I mentioned on my previous reply? But I mentioned that YG probably used CL contacts for BP's favor and made more contacts to make BP have more potential in the US. They know CL's potential, they know she can make it and that's why they keep her hidden away. Despite not being a blink myself I'm sure that if BP doesn't get to BTS status at the very least or more will neglect them. @@jessyan1016 The all about the money comment definitely could have been about what you said. I interpreted it as YG abandoning her US push, but I could be wrong. While I unstand the pressure the average person put on YG for Bom, which they let get out of control, when she came up out of the stage at MAMA, the crowd erupted. Boms presence was greeted louder for than the other member. I think YG should have taken that and continued 2NE1, who was making waves in Japan and China outside of Korea, as well as the US. Nietzens would have eventually gotten over it. But YG chose instead to start fresh instead of rebuilding. This is unfortunately typical of the 'group' manufacturing culture. Often the labels find it easier to just abandon the group and start over than invest further. I also have little doubt they signed Dara and CL purely so no one else could while they were on fire. Its a shame and I wish CL the best of luck in the future. I'm just enjoying Boms triumphant return for now. I was almost convinced she was just going to fade away. She deserves her 2nd chance and I'm glad to her that unique voice again.

My Opinion YG is to blame for most of what has happened to CL's career. Yes he gave her a career and she wouldn't be here without him, etc. but he is also the reason that she is not here now. To put into perspective - CL's last solo release that had promotions was lifted in 2016. She did perform on the Late Show with James Corden? I believe (it was some late night show), but besides that, that was all for the promotion. It actually managed to chart on the Hot 100, but probably because of fans streaming and buying. This was is in August 2016. 2NE1 was still a group (technically). It is now February 2019, and CL has not released promoted music. IN 2 AND A HALF YEARS. Now, one would wonder how in the world an artist has not released anything, besides a song for a kid show soundtrack and a feature on an artist album's who is no longer relevant (sorry Black Eyed Peas), in this period of time, especially when there had been hype for more music and a supposed album. The sole reason is YG. First, YG has not let CL release her music. This is very obvious. She has made several complaints on Instagram and has liked comments about how YG has mistreated her career. In addition, we know that YG planned to release music of hers because New Year's 2018 CL leaked to us fans a recorded music video and song called All In, probably supposed to be released in 2016. The song was much better than Lifted and had a sound that would have worked well in 2016. But, this never saw the light of day. The only reason why a music video and song would have not been released is because of YG's decision. There have also been many songs of CL's that have been leaked or has snippets; if you look up CL leaked songs, you could probably find about 5. CL's lack of music is solely due to YG not wanting to give her music. Second, it seems that YG gave up on CL's career. No one really knows why. Possibly because Lifted did not do well, maybe he didn't think it would work, there are tons of speculations. One thing though is that whatever YG's decision was, he does not seem to care for her career or her success as an artist. This is evident because even though CL was chosen to represent the country of South Korea for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics of 2018, he did not ever mention or promote that she was performing, and he also did not supply her dancers, a make-up team, clothing - essentially nothing. This blatantly shows that YG does not care for her AT ALL, and that she will never get the proper treatment an artist deserves from YG Entertainment any longer. Third, YG completely giving up on CL is so sad to see. To see a company basically ruin someone's career and not care for her is so heartbreaking. She gave so much to that company, it would NOT be what it is today without her. The fact that CL is never talked about or what has happened to her is not talked about is even more sad. Therefore, YG is to blame for what happened to CL, and CL's only shot of ever being an artist again is to leave YG. Whether or not you agree or disagree, being in YG is the least beneficial to CL's career, because it does not seem that YG cares to try and help her career, or cares about her as an artist. Additionally Scooter Braun revealed that CL is not really signed to his company because YG never allowed her to sign a contract that gives him the rights to be able to promote her or release music. He wants to help her out, but if she's under YG, he has no control. (another reason she should leave YG). One thing that has hurt CL's career that she could possibly fix is to post more on social media and interact with fans. It doesn't help much that she only updates like once every two months, but then again, she may not want to come on social media because she feels disappointed in herself that she can't give fans proper answers to her music/career. Hopefully CL leaves YG by the end of the year. It is what she deserves.

@@minababy3193 back in the 90s and early 2000s in the US boyband and girlgroups are a thing (Ex : westlife, TLC, Backstreetboys ect.) afterwards the popularity went down, not saying westlife, tlc and btsb are not famous they still hold a legend status and people will always remember them. That's why kpop in general will always have a hard time to break in the US market, they will always be compared to their very own version of boyband and girlgroup. Kpop groups in general are VERY produced, nothing is raw anymore. hence why it is very niche. I am a fan of kpop too, tvxq, suju, bigbang ect got me to kpop, but i slowly left the whole thing when 3rd gen group debuted. They are molded to the same style of production and the fandom is getting far more toxic (and this doesn't help KPOP groups that are trying to debut in US too)

WGs saw a huge fall in popularity after their attempt to push through the American market where they spend A LOT of time, so upon their return to South Korea, the public wasn't interested in them anymore. The group disbands temporarily, Yeeun goes to school, releases music as Ha: Tfelt, Sunmi does the same, Yubin pursues solo activities, Sunye gets married, Sohee turns to acting, Hyelim studied English (I think). In 2015-2016 they return with Why So Lonely and I Feel You. They officially disband in early 2017, but release a song for their 10th anniversary. Yubin and Hyelim remain in the company, while Sunmi and Yeeun leave to others. Their "fall" from relevancy comes from a combination of prolonged pushing for those USA breakthroughs (Jonas Brothers tour, Like Money with Akon etc), a decently long hiatus, ''old school" K-Pop social media activity, being a 2nd gen group - which made them 'old', and the apparition of new groups for people to be invested in (Red Velvet, G-Friend, TWICE, Black Pink etc)

They got people's attention, and their song I Am The Best was being used by Microsoft(?) for their ads. The scandal could've been dealt with properly. I think they did so quietly. But the media and the netizens were all over their business. And unlike today, where they seek legal protection from people who target their artists, that didn't really happen with Bom (correct me if I'm wrong here tho). She was left out there to be chewed upon her entire country and for what? For antidepressants who were apparently illegal in Korea. Whether it is the board, the investors, Yang Hyun Suk or a combo of everyone, YG as a company is the main culprit on her downfall & I was quite surprised by the lack of info added to this video.I like how you are bring out topics that we all want to know more about but, I don't think you are bringing in enough info on them. They seem vague & incomplete. I know it can be hard to dig in info and all but, it is crucial to give as much as possible. I feel like some info you gave was misleading or not accurate and I'm not sure how heavily you followed 2NE1 or CL but you missed a lot. I see potential on this series & I hope you take my comment as constructive criticism. Anyway, it might not in order but here's a resume of the events : -2NE1 as a group was signed to Capital Records in America and they were planning on releasing an album as a group. Will also helped the girls with producing a lot of songs that never made it out to the public to this day. -CL made a lot of contacts not only due to YG but also due to her influence in the fashion industry, that's why she was always spotted in parties to make connections for her. -At the the she was a guest on MixNine she was not liking messages against YG because she returned to Korea due to the lack of American activities. -Her singles were never promoted as her "American debut" so none of those songs were a proper debut, never released and album or even an EP. -She made statements and Dara too about how many songs she had ready and that she could even record 10 albums. -Some of her songs got leaked and she even revealed two songs on IG, one of them was "All in" . She said that she could get in serious trouble for doing it due to the UNSEEN music video but she didn't care anymore about the consequences. -Believe around this time was where her relationship with YG started to decline. -She got to perform at the Olympics but had to arranged everything herself because she had no staff. -CL is NOT signed to the same agency as BlackPink, to my knowledge she's not signed to any company but Scooter promoted her. -She also did a feature with Lil Yatchy on the track Surrender. -SuperDope was supposed to come out YEARS ago and it was slightly changed from the original track. -There was a phootshoot of 2016 that I think came out just last year & was blocked by YG. -She always wanted to conquer America but also loved her group. She didn't give up on neither, she kept going back and forth between the U.S & Korea to make things work but YG kept blocking her American activities & let 2NE1 die. -I would bet money that YG kept allowing CL to make connections in the U.S not for her necessarly but for other artist & we know by this point that his target was BlackPink. Which I also believe he won't take them serious musically but will try to get as much endorsements to get a lot of money with minimal work. -YG tricked the girls into renewing their contracts with the promise of having 2ne1 make a comeback as a trio only to backstabbing them into disbanding the group suddenly in 2016 just to have BlackPink debut a couple of months after. -Her stylist, Matthew Mazur (@mazurbate) made an IG post when she leaked her MV for "All In". He wrote the following: "Where do I begin. We shot this on December 2016, I was going through the hardest year and month for my life. We had just gotten off the tour with @chaelincl and I had about 4 days or less to prep for the music video. Mind you this was my first music video ever. We pulled it off, 2016 I beat the biggest odds against me, @chaelincl was there for me at the darkest time in my life and for that I'm her's forever. It's beautiful when people surprise you in the best way possible and I'm lucky to have a real relationship with her, not only one that is fueled by money, fame or parties. If she was given the right support from YG she would be big by this point already, reaching that peak or working for that break out hit with a wider fanbase what consist from non-kpop fans. I explained how they actually had to part ways not because they necessary wanted to but for unknown reasons for the public (Which I'm sure involved YG) but they publicly said that they care for each other & they don't have issues with each other. Scooter seemed apologetic for not being able to do enough & I'm not his biggest fan but I do think he really wanted to explore and share her talents with the U.S ~ I do think at first YG wanted to do something but just as you said had not much of a clue of what do with her because I'm sure they wanted results "fast". Time after time is being proved that is hard to make that transition overnight and actually stay afloat & it is better to do things with patience. Gosh when you mentioned the "Fuck YGE" I was like "YEEEES" I would at least a small diss but a "fuck you" would be even better. It would be amazing if they make collabs between each other... Many kpop groups have made appearances and performed on us (and other countries) tv shows before but those weren't debut they were just invited which is a different thing than debut for blackpink I'm not even sure if we should call that debut tho because for me debut is when you release music but it might be because they have signed with us record label so its pretty obvious that they will release music with them someday?

@@jessib607 I wasn't going to be pedantic but when CL performed it was new songs(at the time) such as "Lift" which were entirely English and obviously aimed for the Western market whereas Blackpink are performing an 8-month old song predominantly in Korean. No matter which way it just seems silly to suggest Blackpink is being given a bigger US push than CL was. The most obvious but harsh answer is that CL and YG attempted a genuine campaign(just as BP is right now) for the US market but failed to meet expectations.

Hopefully she won’t re sign because at this point I feel like if YGs gonna focus on any of his female artists rn the first to be served will be Blackpink at this point. Yknow how Seungri recently mentioned that he has to wait for his junior to finish before being allowed to record, and Jaejin oftentimes pointing out how YG has only "dollar signs in his eyes" attitude~ to me it just seems that something happened, 2ne1 was supposed to have the trio album with rumored MV shot in Sweden - which was one of the reasons CL apparently halted all US promotions - to work on that trio album. But that was not released and BP debuted in the meantime and sice SNS has grown in power certain kpop acts gain more attention=more money... and YG/E pushed CL back... and we KNOW she has shot multiple solo videos and recorded and edited who knows how many songs to the point her stylist and the MV directors wondered what happened... to me it just seems she has been pushed back by someone in the company bc BP now brings in a lot money, and CL is just locked away perhaps having to wait just like Seungri.... but the fact that YG had the audacity to have BP perform in US and talk abt their US debut is outrageous..like how can him and the company do that to her?? CL just dropped a new track literally as we are speaking "Cut It Up." She teamed up the Japanese group PKCZ & Afrojack. The track is lit as f*** and it brings into clear focus now. That CL is being held back at this stage. I almost get the impression that YG knows that CL is almost beyond them here. What other reason would there be to keep her locked in prison for so long.
