Well. If you were going to really talk honestly about the whole thing. You would not be talking about him, but all the people who lined up to use him for their own ends. 1) The media 2) politicians on the left 3) politicians on the right 4) Nike 5) Nessa 6) The NFL 7) ESPN He protested at first for his own reasons and nobody cared. They only started caring when they figured out how to use what he was doing and to use him. People on the internet just get pushed to choose a side. They never see the real game. Lots of money made in all this by lots of people. Kaepernick got nickles and dimes. To win the game, you got to see through the game. Almost nobody ever does.

Never intending to work or actually compete and he was giving the signal for others not to follow "slavery" then he actually SUED his employer, and expected to be given a chance. Kick rocks! It's so easy for us to sit here and comment behind avatars and made up account names. It takes a lot more to do as you are doing, showing your face and your passion and your words. It takes even more to put at risk the career you wished for as a child to make a point you believe in. The guy has more courage than most of us, and even now is paying the price for his activism. (I am also a fan of Alex Smith and wish he had remained healthy and could still play.) I truly respect and appreciate the sensitivity you put in your biographies. Agreed, you can’t solve anything if you don’t acknowledge an issue. The second and equally important step is to offer a solution. In my opinion that’s where Colin stopped. I don’t believe he ever intended to offer a solution to anything and he NFL “tryout” proves that.
4 жыл бұрын
@@edizzle62 This makes zero sense.. Who is not acknowledging what? Is Colin not acknowledging what his way of protesting offended many Americans? Are Some Americans not acknowledging that there is social justice issues with minorities? No one is saying that, and most acknowledge this, so I dont know what your point is.. The fact of the matter is, Colin was adopted and raised by white parents and never experienced any kind of oppression growing up or Police brutality. Its the opposite, he was protected, sheltered and loved heavily. So on top of coming off as a phony trying to stand up for some "black" cause he really knows nothing about personally, he used our flag and national anthem, a symbol of hope and pride to Millions of Americans and Military, as a way to push his political agenda, and that is wrong. Had he done so in any other way, he probably would have been much better received, and he had plenty of other outlets to get publicity for his agenda. But in reality, his "cause" is kinda flawed, racist, and biased in my opinion.. for one, the facts and stats dont back up his claims. Police shootings and beating of American citizens favor white people more than blacks, and most of the violence committed on blacks are done so by other blacks. And this is just a fact. Trying to make up some Bullshit agenda to push pity onto African Americans, and hatred onto police and white people, is just wrong. Overall, the stats prove that police involved shootings are at an ALL TIME low, and have continued to get better over the years. We have made a ton of progress. And the facts show, the shootings and beatings are not race-related. All races deal with this issue. It is simply magnified more because many police instances involving minorities take place in the inner city, where news and camera's are far more prevalent. But the stats just do not back up Kaepernicks claims.. And him wearing pig socks and Castro t-shirts promoting Islam and Communism isnt helping...

However, BOTH sides black and white need to have patience with each other and be willing to listen to things they might not want to listen to while holding themselves accountable. Because of being a vet, a disabled vet because of the war in Iraq...these are the two things I have tried to make clear. Number three I have had rolling around in my mind but never shared it. 1. I do not agree with the actions he and others had taken. 2. I absolutely think it is their right to do what they did. So whether I agree or not, I would stand and fight for anyone's right to do what Colin and other athletes did. 3. They needed better messaging. Here is what I mean. What is happening to black communities and individuals is so evil, kneeling during the National Anthem or burning an American flag pales in comparison to what happens to those living in black communities. If they would have said this or something similar, think the message would have been more meaningful, more impactful. I do appreciate the fact Colin Kaepernick met with a veteran and modified what he did based on that conversation so it was not seen as disrespectful to many of us vets.
@diypictures4 жыл бұрын

Flemlo- Thank you for yet another well researched and thoughtful video. I hafta say that I have come to think of you as one of the best most consistent, and fairest influencers on any platform & I look forward to what you will have to say on all issues related to the NFL. I was wondering if & when you would address this situation & I'm glad you took the time for it to develop in order to consider all of the complexities involved. By doing so you are among the few people that truly understands what this is about, and I agree with you on pretty much every point, including a few I hadn't considered. As a middle aged white American Male I recognize that my exact demographic is the one most responsible for much of the dischord seen today and therefore has the most work to do towards making sure Americans of all backgrounds are treated equally under the law. The fact that African Americans are 2.5x more likely to die as a result of an encounter with Police in this country & over 6x more likely to be given lengthier jail terms than any other group for an equivalent offense his is a polarizing debate and there are too many people that in their rush to voice an opinion never considered if their initial reaction was valid, or if they even understood what Kaepernick was saying. There were some who didn't try to understand because, well, to be honest most bigots aren't interested in anything that doesn't involve them oppressing all who don't look act or feel like they do. That goes for bigots of any origin. We need to agree that if one hates another because of skin tone , religious beliefs, gender, sexual orientation, nation of origin or the usual ignorance intrinsic to hate, then that person IS A BIGOT. I don't say racist because we are all of the human race, and because hate does flow in all directions, although some are far more common than the others, they are in no way to be excused for it. No matter what reason one sites hate is not valid in any form and if you harbor hatred you are perpetuating it. If anyone looks at Kaepernick's protest and considers his reasoning, with an open unbiased mind, the only rational conclusion that can be reached is that he is correct.

As a Niners fan since as young as I remember (lived in Monterey CA as the son of a Naval Academy graduate that was a diehard Lion's fan) circa '81. The reason I'm a niners fan is because I remember my father saying before a game, 'These guys are good'. I had no direct connection to the detroit area at that time and so...I watched the game. My love of the Niners stems from that. I could root against dad and forge my own identity. I can't thank you enough for this video....It forced me to reexamine some of the steps Kap took post controversy. To this day, before impactful Niners games, I don my Kap jersey and kneel for the anthem. It has caused a strain as I have been banished from some of my closest friends homes and often watch the games by myself. But, to me, the gesture means something that most people have overlooked (you touched on this by pointing out that the message had been obscured by the 'controversy'). I'm 45...white, and from a relatively privileged, military family. I see it as my obligation as a fan to see Kap's 'protest' through to it's end...The problem I see is that there is no 'end'.........How people (some I have considered life long friends, of 20 or more years) most of whom are white and insulated from these subjects can possibly consider this an 'affront' to them personally is the most disheartening thing. Was Kap good? Yes... Did he make mistakes? Yes.. Does that dilute his original message? Absolutely not.....I just hope, one day, others can not just see that...but live it.

YOU'RE NOT UNDERSTANDING REALITY. IT'S ABOUT PERCEPTION FROM THE GENERAL AUDIENCE. NEXT, THE FACT THAT HE WAS PROTESTING ON THE JOB, TELL ME WHICH JOB WOULD BE OK FOR YOU PROTESTING ANY CAUSE WHILE ON THE JOB? FACT, DECENT PEOPLE COULD FIND HIS WAY/PLACE OF PROTESTING OFFENSIVE. EVEN IF JUST .5% OF PEOPLE ARE TURNED AWAY FROM WATCHING THE NFL THAT IS A BIG DEAL TO THE NFL BECOZ THE GOAL OF BUSINESS IS TO EXPAND. FACT, NFL HAS A REVENUE SHARING AGREEMENT W/ THE PLAYERS SO ANY LOST REVENUE (INCLUDING LOST POTENTIAL REVENUE) HURTS THE PLAYERS AS WELL. FACT, NOT EVERY CASE THAT WAS PORTRAYED AS POLICE BRUTALITY TURNED OUT TO BE POLICE BRUTALITY . THERE WAS A SHOOTING OF A GUY THAT BLM PROTESTED BUT WHEN THE VIDEO WAS RELEASED, THE DUDE COULD BE SEEN ON VIDEO REACHING FOR A GUN AS HE RAN AWAY. FACT, THE MEDIA IN MANY WAYS PORTRAY BLACKS AS THE ONLY VICTIMS OF POLICE MISCONDUCT BUT CASES WHERE WHITES ARE VICTIMS ARE ONLY REPORTED LOCALLY. BASICALLY INSTEAD OF TRYING TO SAY POLICE ARE RACIST THE TRUTH IS SOME- MANY MAYBE EVEN MOST POLICE ARE JUST INCOMPETENT. FACT, BRINGING POLITICS INTO THE LOCKER ROOM DIVIDES THE LOCKER ROOM, NOT EVERYONE FEELS THE SAME WAY.

I think there's one point you didn't really talk about: Many of the people who criticized Kaepernick knew what he was protesting. But those people still saw him as a villain because in a lot of people's minds, the police can do no wrong. They assume the police brutality was totally justified, and that the people who were killed are criminals. It doesn't matter how many news stories, statistics, or other evidence you show them, the police are heroes and immune to criticism. Loved the video, and really enjoyed all the backstory. Keep up the good work!

@@TzUuup I see what you mean but here is some food for though: the (white) parkland school shooter massacred 17 unarmed children and while he was still armed the police brought him down. That same week a (black) Sacramento father of 2 was shot 10 times in the back in HIS backyard, in front of his daughter while on the phone with his wife. The police were looking for a suspect in an unarmed robbery. One, you don't shoot suspects. Two he wasn't the right guy. 3 he was unarmed, didn't even see the police and was in his backyard. And 4, he was shot 10 times, once is overkill, 10 is animalistic savagery... policing in America as a whole is flawed. I got a few cop friends and cops as individuals are fine but the system as a whole is flawed. - once again tho I'm willing to meet you at the middle on this topic -

Any exec who thought the guy was worth that awful $20M/year contract would have to be retarded. Elway was among those who wanted to give Kaep a shot but only if he tore up the 49ers contract for a short term prove-it deal. Look at his stats from the last 18 starts he was at the very bottom of the barrel once NFL defenses had him figured out.

@@joreldeguzman7145 Dolphins have actually been interested in Kaep for pretty much the whole time he has not been playing. They also headed the teams looking to watch him workout in Atlanta before Kaep fucked that up too.. I think teams truly want to give Kaep a chance, but Kaep just keeps proving he is far too much trouble than he is worth.. And it is really a shame Kaep keeps letting his politics affect his NFL career like this. Right or wrong, no business wants to shun half their customers. It doesnt really matter what side you are on.. Its the Same thing with Curt Schilling.. He is on the opposite side of Kaep(heavily Conservative), and he has been ostracized from Official MLB stuff and reporting jobs with big stations. Now he is stuck doing his own pod-cast due to his more extreme views... Same thing. The NFL is a business, and when Kaepernick brings his politics into the league, it negatively impacts their image and business, therefore, Kaep has to go. Again, this isnt about being right or wrong, or what politics/causes you agree with, this is about business, plain and simple.
