Unlike Bill, Javier doesnt follow blindly he has intelligence and insight ultimately still siding with Dutch without really raising his gun towards his former brothers. Siding with Dutch here really was a terrible decision we can only speculate but i cannot see John hunting Javier down if he sided with John (more Arthur but still) John and Javier siding together getting out of there perhaps even with Bill there would have been a awesome scenario.

In case u don’t know what that’s implying it’s basically John asking if Javier is good enough instead of Bill but they reject it saying Bill is still a priority, basically making John turning Javier in for nothing except an extra head for Ross to claim

Except the fact Javier was literally one of the men that left John to die along with Dutch. Replay the mission and you’ll see Javier’s cold expression as Micah and Dutch blatantly lie about John being killed. That’s also why John confronts him in rdr1 with “What you and Dutch did was wrong, the way you left me was wrong” and Javier just looks down with guilt knowing he screwed up. Plus Javier wasn’t one of John’s targets so John went after him out of revenge and hoping he can just turn him in instead of Bill so he can finally see his family

Hard to say if Javier and Bill regrouped with Dutch after Beaver Hollow or they fled the Pinkertons and Dutch never sought them out. He would have gotten the story about Micah from Bill and regardless of ending, Micah runs off with the money. Javier knows he had to avoid the remnants of the gang as they would either alert the authorities or shoot him on sight.
@Zarkil10 ай бұрын
I hated how Arthur and Javier split towards the end. Javier was cool and slick, I loved the camp scene when he scares the shit out of Micah. When the only thing he would really say to you at beaver hollow was "What happened to loyalty?" that actually hurt. I could see him leaving in the chaos after the Pinkerton attack. Like Charles nobody in the gang cared that he was hispanic, except Micah and probably Micah's two friends. He would default to Dutch in the standoff but I think Dutch leaving John and what the gang was now might have caused him to leave. At the beginning of the game he's willing to go look for John because "He'd do the same for me". The new gang wouldn't do that for him.
@Zarkil10 ай бұрын
@@grumpy-wolfman That's a really good point. To the best of my knowledge, while Arthur had complained about how things were going, that was the first time he publicly challenged Dutch's authority. When Grimshaw killed Molly she criticizes Arthur who was trying to stop Dutch from killing her because that's the code. After Arthur throws out Strauss I believe it's Karen, could be someone else since I haven't played through the game in awhile, who asks him if he's going to throw them out too. Helping the Indians and not telling Dutch could also be seen as not putting the gang first. Not saying what Arthur did was wrong but I can see how other gang members could see them as him undermining Dutch and the gang.

It isn’t hard to believe his change of character, he is obviously much more erratic after Guarma and that is evident by how he treats the other gang members at Beaver Hollow. He later helps Dutch leave John to die in Our Best Selves and doesn’t oppose to leaving Jack an orphan and Abigail in Pinkerton custody. This already shows that he has no qualms about leaving his brothers for money, he then ditches Dutch presumably with Bill since he isn’t present when Dutch and the remaining gang members shoot at John and Arthur. Then later in 1911 starts working for the Mexican Government by being a hitman for Allende which clearly opposes the views that Javier had in RDR2. Dude got a taste of money and ditched all his ideals. People change, especially over twelve years.

See, this is probably the hottest take I have for RDR2, but I also believe there is some legitimate substance to it. I firmly believe that the Van Der Linde gang was too big for it's own good. Not just narratively, but functionally. By trying to fill out the ranks of the gang instead of fleshing out characters who are actually essential to the story, the writers end up having to artificially drum up tension for characters like Lenny and Sean, characters who were it not for the one or two dedicated missions together, would be completely meaningless to the player. Manwhile you have Bill and Javier, whom despite being large parts of the first game as unseen objectives, are treated almost exactly the same with almost no screentime. All in all it just feels like characters aren't given time to breath, like, you have to remind yourself that Abiagle, Jack, and Uncle even exist, while also trying to keep the names of the three girls straight. But hey, that's just my opinion.
@raze578310 ай бұрын
I agree. The only notable characters in the gang that had any real substance or true character that made them feel more than just a “member” were Dutch, Arthur, John, Hosea, Micah-plus Sadie and Charles towards the later half of RDR2. Everyone else in the gang kinda just felt “there”, especially the likes of Molly, Pearson, Uncle, Ms. Grimshaw and the rest of the women. Anything we know about a lot of other members is through small interactions at camp, a few of the side missions that don’t pertain to the story or whatever kind of RDR2 lore you can dive into. But I do realize some characters weren’t meant to have big roles or characters that you knew all about. There’s a lot of mystery in RDR that is left to the player’s on interpretation- which is something I think Rockstar did intentionally.
@Mr9209410 ай бұрын
I thought the same and hotter take it completely butchers RDR1’s storyline. The idea that Hosea and Arthur aren’t even mentioned despite functioning as co-leaders by anyone else is far fetched at best. But it makes sense that some of these young Indians would later on re-join with Dutch to keep up the fight and find some more young Indian men over time to join them. Dutch already knew how to manipulate them and so he probably just kept doing that to survive and with his name recognition, most probably already heard of his legend and so the motivation would be high from the start to join his crew.

There was always something a little off about Javier to me like a darkness to him and he seen that in Dutch and figured he could learn from Dutch. Yeah he was loyal to the members of the gang as much as a rebel outlaw could be and while he harboured no ill will towards John and Arthur until the gang was at Beaver Hollow and he didn't wanna kill Arthur or John at that time he still chose to stand behind Dutch with that Fool Bill and those 2 Idiots Micah brought in which proves to me that darkness he had won over. When Dutch walked away and abandoned everyone his two most loyal pawns that were left well one was always a drunken fool (Bill) and the other went totally into the darkness (Javier). John says he went crazy in RDR1 and while that's probably true considering he became a MERC willing to turn against his own rebels for cash, he always had that darkness and I think if Dutch had not saved him in Guarma he would have probably abandoned the gang. His misguided sense of loyalty kept him around, It's why he was so bitchy towards Arthur and John when they grew a brain and realized Dutch was full of it.

It could be that with Arthur and John gone, Dutch's paranoia most likely would have shifted toe Javier and Bill. In my head canon, they either split off from Dutch in the immediate aftermath of Beaver Hollow - I'm sorry but it is unbelievable to me that if they were all a part of that family for years - to actually witness Dutch's lack of care for Susan's demise and how Dutch coldly held a gun on the 2 men he once called "son" had to shake them up on _some_ level. That both men had powers of introspection we learn by watching gang interactions in the first 3 chapters. Back to my main point - if they remained with Dutch much longer after the gang fractured, they would have seen Dutch's madness shift to looking at them with suspicion. For me, it makes more sense they left in the chaos of the escape from Roanoke Ridge, separately. A good meal and a good night's rest away from Dutch and Micahs poison could have brought at least one to their senses... that the thing about downward spirals, when you're caught in one, they are tough to see a way out of... but once you are out and the world calms down - you can recognize the chaos.

yeah, and Arthur could be mentioned, have some hallucination dream with Arthur and ad some of the gear and clothes of Arthur as well. like for example create even a story side mission in which Arthur has a hidden chest of items in New Austin lost when the gang was together over a decade ago and John finally finds it. maybe a cool unique revolver of Arthur or clothes. but regardless. since we finally do have a PC port coming this month, the modding community will probably do a lot of things with the game. ad cool new features and clothes.

I'm surprised nobody in the comments brought this up, but when Javier is in the final showdown & it seems like hes not pointing his gun directly at Arthur & John is because the actor for Javier kept doing the scene wrong. Javier is pointing his gun at them its canon.

I love Javier but he put up an act he started being rude to Charles asking what’s his problem and to use his brain and Javier said Javier:do you want to die? And Arthur said to Charles Arthur: We should’ve left him to die in gurama the little sack of shit. So Javier is probably a bad person after chapter 5 but came with an act and lost himself believing he was still a good person, the thing is I think at chapter 6 at the end he realised what he was kinda doing and didn’t shoot then after lost his mind.

Javier also seemed to have reason to be very trusting of Dutch, we can assume, based on the visible scar on his neck, that someone in either Mexico, but much more likely the US, had tried to slit Javier's throat, so Javier would obviously have been very cautious around Americans at the time, but Javier saw Dutch and felt really like Dutch was everything Javier strived to be, I mean for Christ Sake they found each other while both were stealing Chickens from the same coop. So Javier would likely have never doubted Dutch enough to ask him about anything over the plan..

Not really tho bc yes he took in a starving young lad but then instead of providing legitimate opportunities for him he indoctrinated him into his outlaw ways and basically holds the fact that he saved him over his head by demanding loyalty, even if he doesn’t outright say it he doesn’t have to. Then you realize the pattern that almost all of them joined the gang bc Dutch played the savior and helped them, the only exceptions being Micah which also explains why Micah sees the rest of the gang as weak. So then it begs the question was Dutch genuinely trying to be good or did he see an opportunity and play the savior role? This is perfectly shown in how he helps Eagle Flies too and Arthur realizes he sees how Dutch manipulated him his whole life

Hearing Javier trying to trivialize Dutch's murder of Heidi is what made me realize what a scoundrel he really is. I don't care how much Javier looked up to Dutch, at the end of the day, Dutch murdered an innocent woman in cold blood and there's no justifying it. It just took so long for guys like Javier and Arthur to see Dutch for the monster he really is because he was such an important figure in their lives.

That's the problem with human nature, it comes with the price of attachment. We are all flawed creatures who have weaknesses, we tend to look past the flaws of those we truly love most with all our hearts even when they make mistakes. Javier Escuella was no different, in the world of Red Dead Redemption he was a human being, he loved Dutch so much as a second father that he looked past his greatest flaws and tried to rationalize everything he did in his head so he could function. He was in denial for so long that the realization of Dutch's true colors ultimately broke his noble heart when he finally accepted reality during the standoff at Beaver Hollow. He gave up on his beliefs and after a number of years hiding out in Mexico he turned to the life of a hitman working for a corrupt government because he didn't have faith in anything anymore, not even for the hope of a better world. I'm not entirely defending Javier on every mistake he made during RDR 2, but you can understand why he is the way he is during the events of the first game. He wanted so badly to believe in the best of Dutch that the truth about his lack of character ultimately broke his fighting spirit. The story of Red Dead Redemption is a tragedy after all.

@LevisH21Ай бұрын
Javier in RDR2 is extremely poorly utilized as a character. he seriously isn't used at all in later chapters of the game. or maybe he is but you don't even feel he is there. Charles is a much better character working with Arthur throughout the whole game and even with John in the epilogue. Charles was a badass character and very well developed. probably the best character development in the whole game after Arthur himself.

Yk one thing that isnt mentioned about Javier and Mexico? In the 1800’s the US took basically the entire West away from Mexico, something that still bothers Mexicans TO THIS DAY, i wonder if Dutch used that as an angle to lock Javier into the gang
@josephstalin260610 ай бұрын
No Javier wouldn’t care about that, Mexicans were already treating each other like shit and Javier and his family were peasants to Allendes family and they tortured them just for asking for better wages. This is what caused Javier to become a revolutionary and then in America he meets a fellow revolutionary in Dutch which is why he admires him. It wouldn’t have anything to do with America and Mexicos relations

I don't like that arthurs outfits and hats don't really look 1899. They look more early 1900s. Like 20s I wish they gave us alil more of a selection in the general stores and shops. I know each city had its own. Outfits. But I mean piecing it together. I hardly ever wear default clothing in any game I play.

I think rather than hang him, Javier got conscripted into military service to shore up our numbers for the impending World War I. I think Jack also joined the military to escape the law after killing Ross, leading to the two men reuniting for a World War I adventure during which Jack learns who his real father is… OK so I don’t think that’s actually what happened but I think it would make a pretty good game

How tf can one strive to be something, actually be it, but still somehow give off the personality of someone trying to be something they’re not? Maybe it’s cuz the only thing he TRULY believes in, is what Micah does: It doesn’t matter. No one cares. They all leave. It just doesn’t matter. The bad things impacts him more, so it must be the truth, is what he’s thinking. Apathy is the real main antagonist of this game. All the people in it just have massive boo-boos. Think about that, then look at every “bad guy” character in that light.
