Today’s feature is one of those rap artist that draws you in deeper and deeper into his music as you listen and give what he has to say a chance. Your Old Droog to me is exactly what it means to be an MC, that does what he does for his obvious love for hip hop and rap music, influenced not just by the great that came before him, but a burn within himself to rap, and that’s what I like most about his music. It’s timeless because it comes from a real place. Stories of his experiences that hit even harder when he spits a line you can actually relate to, which is more often than not. Artist with the ability to convey a relatable feeling, while also delivering it with a unique creativity I deem the best when it comes to being an MC, but unfortunately that opinion isn’t shared by the masses. Coming into the game in 2014, Droog was often compared to hip hop legend Nas, and I can see why due to their similar cadence and topics from time to time, some even thinking Nas somehow had an alter ego he was releasing music through under an alter ego. Only to learn Droog was in fact an actual person, with his own interesting story to tell. Too bad like mentioned, skill sometimes is the last thing you need to be popular in this era, and for that and the reasons we’ll speak on, Your Old Droog never got or gets his just due. Biting being permissible is the wackest thing to ever happen to HipHop. I can't help but think that if we would have kept the adequate cultural fence AROUND our culture, then we wouldn't be running into these issues in these contemporary times.@TYBO-xl1xz

"I nEveR hEaRd oF tHis RappEr" Exactly. That's the point. You're being introduced to someone new to YOU. Believe it or not, other artists, rappers and music exist outside of your bubble. Maybe give yourself a chance, step outside of your comfort zone and explore other artists instead of immediately discrediting b/c they lack clout.

Me and you have opposite outlooks on rap and hip hop. Hip hop is the culture. Rap is the art of putting rhyming words together. Anybody can rap, but not every artist is for the culture. Like KRS ONE said, "Rap is what you do, hip hop is what you LIVE." Droog is hip hop to the core, and he can rap, he just doesn't rap about or like the things that appeal to the mainstream.

Ppl overhype the similarities between Droog and Nas. Your Old Droog has a SLIGHTLY similar vocal tone to Nas, and the similarities end there. He doesn’t have Nas’s vocabulary, he flows differently than Nas, and he doesn’t attempt Nas’s super high concept songs. He operates In his own lane. He’s no Nas and he ain’t trying to be. But ppl keep trying to pump that.
@coffgunn1005

@@coffgunn1005 there’s the voice and then there’s how you use it. They don’t enunciate their words the same way, they phrase things very differently. Their inflections are different. Similarity in vocal tone alone ain’t enough to fool my ears when their are differences in all the above mentioned things.

If youre too talented...that can work against you in hip hop. People want dumb ignorant stupid rap like sexy red, gunna, moneybagg yo , anyone who does drill, glorilla, etc. Droog is just too dope for what he does. Same with Phonte from little brother. You're too good at your craft.

I disagree with this stunted growth. Just because Droog isn't a mainstream artist, that doesn't mean he's less successful. Not everyone wants to be a Drake-level artist. As long as you have a fanbase that pops out for your music, shows, merch, etc. To me, that's successful. Droog is dope, imo. He just released "Movie"

You have it backwards. Hip Hop is the culture, & rap is the art form. Someone can rap & not be a part of Hip hop culture. There is also a difference between an emcee & a rapper. Krs one is an emcee, & hip hop artist (raps, does graffiti, etc), lil uzi & them are rappers, not hip hop artists. It is important to know, & understand the difference.
