On this car CLS car it is a bad idea, cause the small battery will need to handle all the load, and if you disconnect the small one, you get lost configurations all over the place: windows and radio at least. not sure what else.

It's such a waste to allow the battery to get so low and damage itself , I have been using small solar panels to maintain unused cars, tractors and lawnmowers over the winter , which means that I've had some batteries for over 10 years before needing to replace them .

He *blew* the alternator by not charging the battery!?
@D3nn1s3 жыл бұрын
Well you heard what he said. If the battery voltage is really low idk how you would be able to start a v8 but aight. Kinda surprised too it wouldnt be able to handle it since it doesnt matter how little juice the charging device (in this case altenator) provides. I can hook up a battery charger to an 8v battery and it wont blow the charger either so honestly no clue xD

killing and alternator with a flat battery? Wtf? Did that with my cars, maybe like 20 times or more in my life. Never killed an alternator. Mercedes reliability?
@ikocheratcr3 жыл бұрын
He mentioned the charger got hot with the bad battery, maybe it was causing issues. Normally alternators do not have current limit itself. The current is "limited" by the wire resistance from alternator to battery, but if the battery is not that high in voltage, then it cause damages. Battery voltage showed ~10V, like if one cell was short circuited, that means tons of current. Short circuited cell is not the normal failure, normally they fail with increased resistance.
@Leo555ZZZ3 жыл бұрын
He also mentioned it was jump started , that can do it too, if done incorrectly.
