If you're a hardcore Destiny player, then going from PS4 to PS5 was a HUGE upgrade and made that worth the purchase completely. I got a PS5 on day 1 and immediately loved the loading time increases. Then, in December, when Bungie released the next gen update, it was game-changing. Going from 1080p 30fps to 4k 60(120 in pvp if your tv could do it like mine) was amazing. I really only played Destiny at the time, so it completely justified the purchase alone. But then I got a high end PC and it hasn't really been touched since lol.

A lot of great points from his video. Downloads, the ads on dashboard, the lack for need of physical media. Thank you for reacting to his video. Also, to add to the PC thing, there are so many combinations for hardware that developers and even the players couldn't even consider, where as a console is (mostly) pick up and play. No drivers to deal with, OS updates that can brick your device, and other computer related issues that can just crop up. I will say, i own a PC and Xbox, and mostly play on Xbox, but i understand the idea of 'just get a PC' (mods, smaller updates, compression on said updates, ease of availability with games, especially older ones, accessibility options for those that need them, ect).
@kurtisdeakin5 ай бұрын
Just the red ring or blue screens on ps lol you get updates on consoles, what do you think those loading bars are when you turn em on sometimes? And they're not always good! You forgot to mention PC has the better specs, I can be doing other things on my pc when there's an update, the better prices for games, the ability to customise my gaming experience. I've gamed on PC for about 10 years now, I have never ONCE had an "os update that bricked my device". What the hell are you talking about? Drivers download themselves like on a console, Nvidia tells me there's a new one out, I download when I want to, done. It's EXACTLY like consoles. I don't think you're really a pc gamer, tbh...

All good points, but also I think one of the problems was the chip shortage that caused the quantity of 9th gen consoles released to nosedive. This led to one of the biggest scalping booms I'd ever seen in gaming, with some consoles selling for double their list price or more. It really killed the momentum of the new consoles when they released and I'm pretty sure they still haven't recovered and likely won't for a while yet.

The biggest thing people miss and what I know as a pc tech/builder is that the series X/S hardware was built “custom” to take software to make the hardware better. The series x has a good 8 core cpu and a 11.8 / 12.1 teraflop GPU. It’s basically a pc under Xbox OS. At the time of them, you’d spend more on building a pc to get equivalent performance. The consoles are still perfect even today especially for the price compared to building a pc. Go take $299 and build a pc that smacks decent graphics @ 120fps like the series s. You’ll hunt for a bit.
@TheWitch2975 ай бұрын
The average console user is subscribing to gamepass or psplus, and I have no idea why most ppl who make price comparisons never take this fact into account. Paying into these subscription plans over the course of an entire console gen is close to, or even exceeding the price of the console itself. This very same PC that you might spend more for equivalent performance also has vastly more use case which is never taken into account either. If you had the option to play ps5, xsx and nintendo games via emulation this is the equivalent of having all 3 consoles in one box, minus the few exclusives that might take 2yrs to come to the PC platform. and those are a very small handful of games. Even better if you have a PC that performs vastly better than current gen consoles. The price gap has considerably shrunken over the past few years.
@benstanfill3635 ай бұрын
@@TheWitch297Except ps plus and gamepass give access to tons of games now. PC doesn't have an equivalant. Having a console and paying $135 a year for PS Extra is 100% worth it for me and many many others. PC players always try to pretend PC is so superior but it's really not. For some people its absolutely the best choice, for others, it's not.

Not exactly the same example, but the comms argument is so well observed. I remember playing CS 1.6 (yes, I'm old) back in the day, and I met most of my gaming friends in that time. Whereas, destiny 2 does not feel like a game populated with millions of people. People you get matched with might as well be bots. Particularly when it started, the game actively made it difficult for people to connect. Back in the day things were different. For a start, we had community servers rather than match making, which meant people would tend to hang out in the same place each day, a bit like a local pub or bar. You would join one of those servers with space, and see people you recognised in there. Additionally, people would talk to one another. They didn't necessarily use comms, but they would text chat. CS was probably a bit unique in this respect because you often spent at least some of the round dead, waiting for it to end, so there was nothing else to do. I think maybe a lot of the reason we don't have environments like this that foster free and easy communication today is that we want to keep people safe from abuse etc. I totally get that, but it's a shame it's come at the cost of the social side of gaming.

There’s another aspect that I don’t think was covered in the video, which is paywalled multiplayer. I understand that consoles are sold as loss leaders and that the companies expect to make up for that with subscriptions like PS Plus and Xbox Gold, but why would I choose to pay 70USD/year (at minimum) to play a game I already paid 70USD for when I could just pay 70USD once to get the game on PC and never have to pay a subscription to play online? It just astounds me how we’re just letting these companies get away with stuff like this. And now that crossplay is being implemented in pretty much any game with multiplayer, there’s even less of a reason to stick to consoles. Consoles were popular back then because they had the best value and were the most accessible, but now that PCs are getting cheaper and easier to use I genuinely see no legitimate reason for anyone to stick with consoles aside from exclusive titles (which even they are starting to make their way onto PC). Almost everyone I know that had a console back in the day has transitioned to PC and almost never use their consoles anymore. I rarely use my PS5 and I only even have it for certain exclusive titles that I know are coming to PC in the future, I was just excited for those games in particular (FF16, God of War, and Spider-Man).

For real. That’s something I’ve noticed as well. It’s one thing to be critical and offer constructive criticism vs just bitching to bitch. One of the big points he makes too in the video regarding talking on the mic from then vs now is also really different. Today you can’t say anything w/o offending someone. It’s like we’re always on eggshells. No wonder no ones using the mics. That’s not totally the new game consoles fault. More of a sign of the times sadly.

@@Blackronin357starfield actually deserved it though , loading screen simulator when it’s supposed to be space exploration even though you can only explore pre set locations which are randomized. People are critical BECAUSE, if you paid attention to video, we're getting crap game after crap game nobody asked for, remakes for brand new consoles that bring nothing new, copy pastes, looong load times, ads, minaj in cod skin bs etc. People aren't "overly negative", people are tired and speaking out at long last. If they'd spoken up sooner and voted with their wallets, gaming might be in a better state today.

Really great video and great points. For me, I have a work computer that is not used for gaming and am unwilling to buy a second computer specifically for gaming. A console is less expensive than a gaming PC and provides a "good enough" gaming experience to enjoy AAA games with decent enough FPS.

It’s dumb to hear about the next generation of consoles when none of the promises for this generation have been met and very few games are taking advantage of the horsepower of current gen consoles.

@s1n1st3rs0ul5 ай бұрын
there isn't much more innovation you can really do anymore, its now down to story ideas and gameplay feel, and so there are very few games that can stand out in that way. But, you gotta take one thing into consideration as well... social media. It is way more prevalent now and so people are making their opinions known, and i can guarantee that if we had social media back then like we do now, we would be having a similar conversation about games. Like, most of the games were amazing back then because it was, for most gamers, their first few years of gaming, so everything was new and everything was fresh. Now its not, I'm sorry to say but we ARE just getting older and that does change our perception on games. Look at all the kids that play games today, they are acting just how we used to act, and probably don't care about the state of games just like we didn't care. We have gotten so into judging games and checking the state of games that we have lost sight of the biggest reason why games exist... to just have fun. I'm not saying we should just let the companies do whatever they want and just consume consume consume... but we also need to learn that perhaps there are more games we can have fun with if we actually look rather than always criticize and critique.

I think you can always innovate, they've jusy gotten extremely lazy. They don't make any new original games unless they check the boxes of past successful games. Studios are too greedy to risk new things. It's not just a matter of an aging generation, I definitely disagree. There have been so many remasters/remakes, it is ridiculous
@s1n1st3rs0ul5 ай бұрын
@@LSB44446 I'm not saying they aren't greedy, but you cant expect them to keep coming up with new innovations. How are you supposed to change the fps genre in a meaningful way without driving everyone away? you really cant, that genre has kinda peaked in innovation and is now just needing to present itself in different ways to be more appealing than the other titles in that genre. But that's not innovation, innovation, like the video showed, is genre defining feats that are then used/chased by everyone else. That's a lot harder to do nowadays. Take BG3, that didn't really innovate, they just made a damn good rpg with things that have been here for years already.

It's funny to watch this video at the this moment, as I'm a PC player and I play Destiny 2 as my primary game (hence why I'm watching this channel), but I just purchased Minecraft, on my Xbox One, only days ago, just for the chance to play a very simple and chill game with my son, who's about to turn 5 soon. And while he has ZERO idea what he's doing, the laughter he lets out when he tries to hit me with a sword, and the million questions he's hitting me with on whatever it is he's doing (while I'm just trying to build a damn house), is genuinely priceless. I honestly look forward to sitting down to play with him whenever I have the chance, and it's just MINECRAFT for crying out loud, but it's possible because the console is more accessible to him at his age. He'll grow in that space, and maybe one day he'll move past the need for the console, but for now, it's exactly where it needs to be.

Remember jumping to 360 after the old PS3 after getting tired of the PS controllers failing--and because I wanted to finally play Halo. And never looked back because some of the best text/mic interactions EVER started happening. New to me. Made me laff. A lot. Liked the feel of the controller and it's reliability vs PS too. The ex left in...2010? and took her PS. Destiny happened and had to shift to the Xbone (360 bricked) later in the year. Mostly because of the Xbox community I had built u because of Destiny. Good times. Good fun. But the texts and voice was GOLDEN! Not just Destiny. lol. Good reaction vid.

The company my wife worked for had a Xmas party that was casino themed with prizes. We actually won a 360 for our boys. Long story short they opened it, I cried tears of joy! Then we plugged it in, installed some game, I think it was Halo 3. Five minutes into the first time they EVER got what they asked for as a Xmas gift...ROD. That being said I still miss those gaming days.

They were so impressed with his work, this guy made a witchers 1 prologue inside the Witcher 3 with mods. They reached out to get a"CV" Whatever the hell that is. That sparked a trend and now almost half the team working on cyberpunk 2 were modders.
