I got my first car at 16 a mini 30 my dad part exchange a mitsubishi pejero for it down in Somerset, drove it back home on a winters day back to Bournemouth, was the first time in a mini I loved it, my dad liked it more I think as he had a few when he was in his teens. I still own the car now and I'm 33 it's slowly being rebuilt. 👍🏾

That's exceptionally cool. I've got a little 998 Mini as my first car, got a few months til I turn 17 and its definitely not perfect. Has an MoT, but I've got plenty of work to do... Plan on keeping it for as long as I can, will be great fun. Cheap insurance and well, its a Mini. Got to get learning on the mechanics side, it was a kind of bite the bullet moment.

My first car was a 1980 russet brown Mini. I bought it from my older brother, it was his first car as well that my dad found for him when he was 16 (34 yrs ago). I used it for a few years including going to uni. When I was going to trade it in my brother bought it back, it sat in the garage for many years. It is now fully restored to original spec and has 60k miles on the clock. It hardly gets used these days but will never be sold as it is part of the family!

Love it Tom! You never forget your first mini! Owning a mini is what got me into cars, I tought myself most of what I know because of minis and the A series engine. What car looks this good on a 60 year old design? It's Timeless! The other thing I love about minis is the people you meet because of them!

A few years back I was on a stag do outside a pub having a beer. I saw a mini coming down the street. It was only as it passed by I clocked the reg and realised it was my old mini. I hadn't seen it in over 20 years. It just rolled past me round a corner and that was it. I actually had tears in my eyes 😄 I've owned loads of different cars but nothing has gotten under my skin like my 2 minis. That moment sowed a seed in my head and fast forward 3 years I'm a classic mini owner again and man, I'm loving it 😊

Awesome video! My first car was a little red 1986 mini. Luckily despite many hiccups along the way, I still own it. I can't count the number of times I felt the same about the lack of reliability, but 20 years later, I luckily still own it (with a few cars in between). Now the plans are afoot for a complete restoration, after 20 years of doing just about the bare minimum to keep it on the road.

My first car was also a mini, an N reg 1974. Suffered an electrical wiring fault and burst into flames on my way to town. Fire Brigade came to put it out. 6 years later I got a job in the Fire Service and ended up working with some of the guys who put the fire out! :-)

I had a bunch to bang around the farm but my first was a mk1 fiesta 1L did a quick spruce up and wheels, and flipped it and a fist full of twenties to a guy for a mk2 RS2000 and did a full resto on it. The fiesta got rear-ended and shortened by 3ft (totalled) and as far as i know my Diamond white Escort is still rumbling around.

What a great video Tom, one of your best. A really nice nostalgic story, told with emotion. Your cinematography just gets better and better and you consistently produce TV quality short films. I still have my very first car, a 1973 Mini that I bought for just £25 back in 1987. It's been bodge welded many times over the years (as many old minis were in the 80s and 90s), but at last I'm trying to give it the restoration it deserves. One day it'll be back on the road and I'll experience all the feelings that you did, while driving your first car again. Well done on a fantastic video Tom. Simon.

My first was a 1968 mini mk2 F reg. I bought in Nov 1977 & kept till it rotted away in Jan 1984. It was in fact a mk2 super deluxe 850 cc. In early 1978 I took it to bits & prepared it & paid someone to spray it snowberry white. In summer 1978 I put a 998 cc engine in. Then in 1981 a 1275cc from an Austin 1300 mot failure. Wish I'd kept it & put a 1098 cc engine in as years later I had a clubman 1100 & that engine was the best for a mini. I'm 60 now & would love a mk2 again!

Similar happened to me mate. Saved up for 3.5 years on a paper round. Bought my first car and dream car, a mint classic mini old English white with a black roof, at 17. Wrote it of in the wet after 4 days of owning it. Pretty devastating. I'm 29 now and just finished rebuilding my third mini on the driveway. The crash made me learn about how the car works and now looking back I wouldn't of changed a thing. Your vid reminded me of my experience a lot. Wish I could redrive my first.

It’s strange isn’t it! Losing a mini opens your eyes to how to maintain them and brings the want of owning another

Tom, I think your first car is such a high point it will stay with you but like you i had lots of engine issues which marred it some what! In the early 70s cars where bought & sold every few months due to MOT fails or mechanical problems but now there classic cars lol, I bought Mk1 minis for 20 to 30 pounds or a good one for 75 Quid, Look what the cost now! Cheers Dave
@graemew70015 жыл бұрын
That was emotional, great to see its being looked after so well though. My first was a rough cheap Mk1 Escort (same car and colour as Wheeler Dealers car when they bought it), the wiring loom melted while my dad was driving it so we scrapped it as the inner wing were really bad, a common thing with them.....in my defence it was 1986 and Mk1's were common then. I have a hankering for one now but they're going for silly money!

Still got mine sat on the driveway. 1999 Renault megane saloon Which was a hand down. Likely to be destined for the scrapheap in the next year or so which is sad but life must go on, not worth much financially and quite rusty underneath. Will probably require some serious work to get through the next mot if it makes it that far and not sure it's financially worth it but got a new clutch and radiator and want my use from it first haha. Since i started my driving adventure 5 years ago in the renault, i have bought 2 other cars, a 91 Rover Mini City and an 08 Fiat Panda 100hp as a new daily. When it's gone, i will always have fond memories of the big green rusty machine that gave me freedom to the roads.

Hi Tom, my first car would you believe was a 1971 Mini Clubman Estate VFK544K in a kind of aqua marine blue. I wrote it off underneath a tractor and trailer in 1978 , and thought I’d seen the last of it, but a couple of years and a relocation later I saw it in for an MOT at my local garage. It will have been scrapped now as I’ve checked the DVLA and it’s not recognised. It was great for the time I had it fond memories of wizzing along country road with my black Labrador in the back. First car, MK1 Ford Escort, seen it abandoned in a paddock, had to have it so set about looking for the owner (long story), bought it, got it road worthy and drove it for years. Bought a 1986 Audi coupe quattro, circumstances beyond my control meant I had to let it go and regretted it ever since, so when I seen it again in my fathers friends yard I did a double take and started negotiated to buy it back. It now sits in my garage in a poor condition (rolling shell) and have been collecting parts to start the rebuild.
