I was at Giant Paya Lebar Square the other day. The price reflected by the weighing machine for some limes I was buying was different from what I recalled seeing on the shelf. I asked for help from a staff member, one fairly similar to Lisa's disposition. She swiftly helped make a manual adjustment for me at checkout. She not only trusted my statement without actually checking the shelf tag, but the speed she also processed the adjustment was so deft that I came away feeling she had an all-round strong sense of purpose and professionalism for her job. That seems to be what Lisa identified strongly with in this film. The salary is one aspect of the job, but the purpose, camaraderie and sense of identity is so much more important and humanising - compared to the situation that has led to their late night. Thank you for making this short film. The acting was brilliant, and so were the set piece, props and lighting that really brought it to life.

Wow! while watching this, i observed these phenomena: 1) The cashier personas were older ladies, possibly in their 50s -70s. they had been performing menial service roles their entire working lives, and feel ill-prepared for the changing times. I noted that a sign discouraging cash payment was particularly spot-lighted, suggesting that they may be themselves victims of the digital drive 2) The "Big Boss", Viknesh, is english-educated and potentially of Indian descent. considering that he cashiers were making their demands in Chinese, I sense an inherent language barrier between the 2 parties. In this case, the "boss" dude may find himself caught between feuding parties, becoming a hapless translator 3) The cashier ladies were paying to consume the items they picked from the store itself

Only monthly salary of 1.5k in this most expensive city. PAP says it will always take care of Singaporeans? A short movie but reflecting a real life problem.

love these shorts guys. perhaps a tip though: it would be easier for viewers to read the subtitles if they are in a more prominent text colour (eg. yellow) as the white colour can make it hard to read when the scenes have white background

My interpretation is that, it is not just about money alone. Their routines, the bonding amongst the "sisters", and other things would be changed.

This is what happens when you're not prepared to change with the times. What's the point of holding on to old time sake? Take the money and move on, find another job elsewhere as a retail assistant etc. 18k should be enough to last them for sometime considering they are in their 50s-60s and they should have much lesser commitments with their children mostly grown up. Nobody owes you a living, you fight hard to earn one and if you don't change with the times you will be left behind.

1. The company does not owe you a living, and you also don’t owe the company anything. It’s purely transactional: salary in return for labour. 2. Seek a higher life purpose that goes beyond your work. You are doing life wrongly if you become purposeless without a job. 3. If you want to remain competitive, be sure to constantly upgrade yourself so that you can add value.
