Here's a nice example: When my parents bought their house, there was only 1 tree and it has since had to be uprooted due to interfering with pavement. However, since moving in, my parents have planted 5 trees in their garden. A pine tree, a maple, 2 apple trees, and a cherry tree all grow on their property. My mom also has bird feeders all over the place. My mom's garden has become a food court for wildlife. Hummingbirds, cardinals, sparrows, squirrels, rabbits, even deer have been spotted in the yard.

A friendly reminder that raising CO2 levels allows us to have the perfect environment to grow plants. Greenhouse studies show that not only do plants grow larger and more quickly with more CO2, but they also have a lower water requirement for that growth. The optimal level seems to be between 800 and 1000 ppm CO2. High CO2 levels have also helped countries in Africa and Asia reverse desertification because of these facts about the carbon cycle. We could potentially return to life during the Carboniferous, when the entire world was green!

The context about Hong Kong mentioned in this video is incorrect. About 700 square kilometres (63%) land area of Hong Kong falls within the protected area such as country parks, marine parks, wetland, sites of special scientific interest, and water gathering grounds. These areas are either statutorily protected or highly restricted from development. At present, there are 24 country parks and 11 special areas outside country parks in Hong Kong with a total area of 443 square kilometres, accounting for about 40% of the total land area in Hong Kong.

Our house almost covers 70% of our total perimeter, but my father still encourages us to plant trees all around us. We had about 10trees around us (not including banana "trees") and we have 2 new seedlings growing... and yes the advantages are great... I compared the surrounding temperature of our house to our relatives close by and yeah, their perimeters are treeless and its borderline summer temperature even in mid november... their land is cemented and the only plant life are some potted roses and poppies, nothing else The air is always fresh here at my home, lots of natural shade and not the kind where its totally dark... And maybe the only disadvantage we have for having trees is the amount of fruit rotting on our feet when the fruiting season starts... we just cant eat them all, too many XD

Thank you for this video, it's great. But you all should really learn pronunciation before publishing something like this. Anuradhapura still exists in modern-day Sri Lanka and it's not that hard to learn how to pronounce the name properly. Thanks!

It's so sad there's a number of people who can't see the value of the trees themselves, but they need to be taught how those trees can be used to maintain human health.

Think Singapore is the most committed city to trees? NYC planted 1 million trees in less than 8 years. It’s continuing to build and renovate new parks and last summer NYC past a law that all new construction or major renovations have to incorporate a green roof.

Hong Kong is actually one of the greenest metropolises I’ve ever been to. You can access hundreds of hikes so easily and enjoy amazing views of either the city or the ocean.

I live in Cyprus, and when I was born, my father planted ten trees close to a road that was part of the land my father owns. There was a hotel at the end of the road, and I am sure the hotel wanted the road slightly larger for their customer's convenience and their own (transportation). My father was furious because it was an absurd proposition to take down ten trees for the sake of a slightly bigger road. The government (lobbied by the hotel) requested that part of the land to build a slightly bigger road. Again... SLIGHTLY BIGGER for ''everyone's" convenience. I and the trees were about ten years old when this whole story escalated. My father, even to this day, refused to give the government permission to make the road. In 2018, my father had to undergo surgery, and I was at a University in the UK. The government took all the trees out, including some olive trees that my father was able to save and plant elsewhere... I was going to be 22 that year but unfortunately, not the trees...

Didn't expect the city I'm studying in to be featured here in the end! I can really tell the presence of trees does bring benefits compared to cities without them. And yes, the Gardens by the Bay Supertrees are magnificent sight. This actually gets to me personally... My city of Jakarta, specifically in a region called Kelapa Gading, used to have a boulevard planted with trees from end to end, complete with a garden in a familiar roundabout. Then the development for extensive transport comes and just within a flash, all the green stuff get chopped down and the green circle gets converted into a construction site. True, there's still some shade on the road, but of concrete and steel rather than leaves. The air feels a bit stuffier and warmer lately... It doesn't feel the same anymore, does it?

Im a witness to this. In my country, constructors are tearing down trees to make more buildings and the city is getting hotter every day. For example, the other day we couldn't move because it was so hot that as soon as you moved you started to sweat.

1:41 That’s what I say all the time. (At least in my case) we don’t live in a city that is cut off of the nature. We live in the nature, it goes through our streets, houses and more. We merely built “city” in the middle of nature.
