@@ThePlayerOfGames The glorification of the Amazon as the earth's lungs is very misleading and could be dangerous. According to science, the Amazon contributes 6% of the earth's oxygen and if we were to lose the Amazon completely, you would hardly notice the difference in oxygen supply. Correct information is always empowering. If it's more oxygen the earth needs, there are plant species that produce the most oxygen growing elsewhere which isn't necessarily the Amazon.

@@ThePlayerOfGames The same way you're trusting this science is the same way you should trust the science that says you won't notice. I also don't think you understood what Augustin and I were saying which essentially is, people are misinformed. I would like to point out again that I said if it is more oxygen the world needs, we need to be focusing more on the sea and where the other 24% of oxygen supply comes from which I'm sure most people, myself included aren't really sure. This is by no means not saying, let's not save the Amazon forest because there are so many other reasons why the Amazon is vital but, I repeat, people should be informed accordingly because misinformation can be dangerous. For example, if more people knew that most of their oxygen comes from the sea, do you not think there would be more effort to save the ocean? Noone is saying don't save the Amazon, I am saying inform people accordingly because the more people know, the better position they are in to act. It's like how long we've been misinformed that trees will solve the carbon problem when actually planting trees is just creating a carbon sink which is a temporary solution.

The video brings up an interesting point without actually saying it explicitly: No number of trees can ever restore Earth's previous carbon balance, because they don't destroy carbon or carbon dioxide, only store it while alive. The carbon in their remains can get stored deeper underground on geological timescales, but not on timescales that are meaningful for us as a civilization. Meanwhile, we are digging up coal and oil which has been storing carbon from life from hundreds of millions of years ago, and re-releasing it into the atmosphere. No number of natural trees could ever contain the collective carbon from eons of past life.

You get there has been a steady increase in the amount of trees on earth every year since at least the 70's? People get told so much nonsense, the earth is greening. What happened in the Amazon last year was also blown way out of proportion and was more to do with politics than the environment. Did you even know there was more forest being burned in Africa at the time people were crying about the Amazon or that on average over the last decade less of the Amazon was burnt than normal or that China plants billions of trees each year(has for a very long time) that Canada plants hundreds of millions, as do many other countries. If anything trees may be part of the reason why the earth is warming due to the amount of water vapour they are adding to the atmosphere and because the work as heatsinks at night.

Ever see Futurama? They literally have an episode, showing an unforeseen consequence of having 1 trillion more trees.
Where drylands have been transformed into forests by intensive tree planting a warming effect has been observed. Arid areas are light coloured and reflect the heat from the sun, whereas trees are dark and absorb heat. This quality is known as 'albedo'. It happens in the Arctic when ice melts exposing dark ocean which absorbs more heat and so speeds up the rate of melting. With the best of intentions we do have the potential to make things worse.

a big part of reducing those emissions is through the use of mycelium, a fungal growth underneath forests with a symbiotic relationship with trees, granting them a communication method while strengthening everything in the area, making growth easier for other plants as well
@TheOriginalFlowerdough3 жыл бұрын
this INSTANTLY makes this sort of revitalization method MUCH easier as the use of one species can be somewhat mitigated, though sparse dotting of various trees to grow into an area through use of mycelium and time would create a FAR denser, more stable and overall strong forested ecosystem capable of supporting more life, this would make earth passable in the time it requires to make somewhere else minimally livable, so we can focus on getting that running then live more and more on that planet giving this one time to heal while using another planet for the less nature-friendly production

This year I planted 3 fruit trees on my property to add to my already 15 fruit and nut trees. I still have 6 evergreen trees to plant in autumn along with two flowering trees and I want to add 5 more fruit tree plus more bushes for my wild rabbits and birds to play in. Basically…..I want a mini forest. My dad says I’m a lot like my grandpa, while many neighbors hate to see weeds and wildlife eating their hard work I am fascinated by the wild flowers and bunnies that come to eat. My grandpa in Mexico used to pay to clean a spring every single year so wild animals and his pigs could play in the water, everyone called him a lunatic for paying and not using it himself but he said it was totally worth it. Unlike everyone else’s dry land tho, his was always overflowing with water and food. Dad said it was his generosity and that his lands thanked him back by never going dry. A lot of native teachings got lost and my grandpa learned the most from his uncle who just like him learned to love the land and respect the animals there. My parents and I want to make our home turn into a food forest, I hope we can also get solar panels soon too. A tree offers clean air, shade, food, shelter for animals and it’s beautiful so I don’t see problems with more….there was once so many more.

I would say that solar energy and graphene are the solution, because graphene is a stable form of carbon that is, at the same time, useful for humans. But processing carbon using carbon is not a good idea, this is why we need solar in the equation to provide us with the energy we need. By this process we could extract carbon atoms from carbon dioxide leaving behind oxygen, which could be utilized in other fields or realeased back to the atmosphere.

One way to prevent economic depletion of these restored zones is to integrate fruit bearing plant life that way governments can employ foragers to go pick the fruits and vegetables and sell them this could create jobs while also helping to drop the price of healthy foods. And with such Bountiful plant life wild game is bound to inhabit these restored areas allowing for regulated hunting of game wether it be by the civilian population or employed foragers, this hunted game will help supplement the meat market while we try to move away from large scale animal farming.
